The chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus’ Task Force on Immigration called on GOP candidates campaigning in Alabama ahead of tomorrow’s primary that state’s anti-illegal-immigration law as “chaos” that undermines national unity.
“Not speaking out against Alabama’s HB56, perhaps the most egregious one so far, sends a clear signal to Latino voters that the GOP is more interested in pandering to the anti-immigrant wing of the party than in leading a nation in need of serious immigration reform,” Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) said in a statement.
Signed in June, the law requires that police should attempt to determine a person’s status if they have reasonable suspicion that he or she is in the United States illegally. It also blocks landlords from renting to illegal immigrants or allowing them to receive public benefits, and includes various work and school prohibitions.
The congressman singled out former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for opposing Department of Justice lawsuits that challenge state immigration laws.
“There is a bright line between the Republicans and Democrats when it comes to immigration,” Gutierrez said. “Democrats are for policies that promote legal immigration, keep families together, and get more immigrants into the system and on-the-books. Republicans favor severe restrictions on legality that feed the black market and make divisive Alabama-style policies a wedge issue to be used in campaigns.”

Yes, obeying the law does tend to be divisive; for those who do it every single day of their lives and knowingly put their families in “divisive” situations and then blame it on, guess what, somebody’s racism.
On the Democratic Left, nothing is ever the fault of a minority and I mean nothing. Mayans are incapable of lying, black folks of bigotry, women of misandry and gays of bigotry. What a giant, happy family. I’d be happy too if I was a paradigm of failure who survived by theft and blame.
Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Congressional Black Caucus, where’s the Congressional White Caucus?
So a racist calls for “his people” to be exempt from the laws the rest of us live under.
Anything new happening?
Luis Gutierrez and Robert Menendez should both be removed from office, charged with fraud and gross dereliction of duty, bordering on treason.
Gutierrez collects a salary and benefits paid by American taxpayers while he opts to work full time advocating for illegal aliens. His time in D.C. is spent conspiring with Hilda Solis, Thomas Perez, Eric Holder, Obama, and others in the administration in his successful efforts to enact an administrative amnesty for the 20-30 million illegal aliens he enabled to enter this country and now allows them to roam it with impunity.
Great comment.
It seems to me that instead of talking about immigration reform (ie. ANOTHER amnisty!), what we really ought to do is try ENFORCING THE LAWS THAT ARE ALREADY ON THE BOOKS!!! I’m glad that Alabama and Arizona are passing laws like these, someone has to do it, since our federal government refuses to live up to it’s constitutional obligations! I wish that the other 48 states (the other 55, if you’re Obama!) would do the same!
“Democrats are for policies that promote illegal immigration, keep uneducated illegal immigrants on welfare, clogging our school systems and hospitals, while promoting policies that undermine the legal system of our country.”
Fixed that for ya, Luis.
