Via Walid Shoebat’s blog, a Sky News says the usual suspects are teaming up again:
Iran and al Qaeda’s core leadership under Ayman al Zawahiri have established an “operational relationship” amid fears the terror group is planning a spectacular attack against the West.
There are concerns such an attack, possibly targeting Europe, would be in revenge for the killing of Osama bin Laden by the US last year.
Sky News’ intelligence sources have said Iran has been supplying al Qaeda with training in the use of advanced explosives, “some funding and a safe haven” as part of a deal first worked out in 2009 which has now led to “operational capacity.”

On July 26th, 1941 Japan’s assets in the U.S. were frozen and on August 1st 1941, The United States, Great Britain and Netherlands embargoed all oil and gasoline exports to Japan.
It was thought at the time that this action would force the Japanese to the negotiating table so as to force the Japanese to end their Imperial war in China. The Western Powers held the Japanese government and their Imperial Army in contempt, believing they were far below the standards set by the United States and the British.
On December 7th, we found out just how foolish those ideas about the Japanese Imperial power really were.
Sanctions always sound like the easy way to get what you want from a belligerent force. History shows that unless you are demonstrably ready and willing to use military action to enforce the sanctions, you are dreaming the dreams of a deluded fool. In this case, a fools dream that in the end could result in millions of dead people.
We have put the Iranian government in a position where they must take action to survive. I fear we have not done anything to deal with their answer to our gamble when it finally does come.
When–not if, but when–Iran/al Qaeda attacks, Ron Paul will finally be declared irrelevant to politics (except among his fanatical supporters), and he will be compared to Neville Chamberlain as an appeaser of evil.
When Iran strikes, it will not a half effort, will be for all the marbles. The Mullahs are cornered by reality and their only hope to get out of the corner they have painted themselves into is to gain nuclear capability before any force can be gathered to eliminate them. Once they have nuclear weapons, they will receive no credible threat to their rule, from inside or out. If they are kept from getting nuclear weapons, their only remaining card is to unify their nation through an active war; a strategy they have already used once against Iraq. In that war, they were willing to sacrifice 2 million of their countrymen in an effort to remove the growing number of malcontents by appealing to popular patriotic feelings that come from defending your homeland. Success in that war was not their primary goal, maintaining power over the nation was, and they achieved that goal for a generation. That generation is now over, and the card is back on the table.
The real problem we face is this; while we have shown repeatedly that we have the ability to beat any Army, Navy or Air Force on Planet Earth, we have not shown that we have the will to use it. The Iranians, while militarily weak, have shown us repeatedly that they have the will to use what they have for the greatest effect.
I wonder if we had a strong president, who clearly would use military power where necessary, if Iran would be doing this right now.
I mean, if we had a lot of troops stationed right across the border in Iraq, ready to march across the border and kick some butt and take some names, might Iran not think twice about doing something that would make us send those troops?
Unfortunately, with Obama clearly demonstrating that the harshest Iran can expect from him is a strongly worded letter of rebuke and a few sanctions, they’ve become convinced that Obama’s America is a paper tiger… and they’re probably right.
Why do you think Maliki refused to negotiate a Status of Forces Agreement? To keep U.S. forces off the Iranian border and as far away as possible. How much do you think the mullahs are paying Karzai? The Paks have the bomb and they work with the Taliban, so the enemy of my enemy is my friend? Why is the 0 administration now committed to reducing our strategic nuclear weapons numbers from around 5000 to around 300? BHO. The name says it all? You decide.
Better a nuke-armed bomber wing hanging out at Diego Garcia, just because. Persia has been a thorn in the @$$ of western civ for at least 5,000 years. Persia + Islam? Belmont Club’s Three Conjectures is more and more seeming to be a best case scenario, assuming a Chief Exec with the stones to do the necessary. (Hint, the one in office now, ain’t it.)
“There are concerns such an attack, possibly targeting Europe, would be in revenge for the killing of Osama bin Laden by the US last year.”
Since when do they need an excuse.
