Muslim Brotherhood to Obama: You'll Have to Keep Buying Peace

So, by helping kick out the Egyptian dictator who was an American ally, President Obama has put us in the position of having to bribe our enemies not attack our other allies. Does that about sum things up in the Arab Winter?

A top Muslim Brotherhood official has warned that any cuts in U.S. aid to Egypt could affect Cairo’s peace treaty with Israel – the latest sign that Egypt’s emerging political forces intend to call Washington’s bluff over the diplomatic dispute triggered by a crackdown on non-governmental organizations.

The “new” Egypt is holding 16 Americans on trumped up charges, and one of those being held is the son of a cabinet officer. Regardless of political party, this action is intended to be a direct affront to the United States. It may constitute Joe Biden’s “international test.”

In addition to holding these 16 American hostages in all but name, the “new” Egypt is lecturing us about the price of keeping the former regime’s peace treaty with Israel. Having elected our enemies to power, they’re demanding that the flow of aid continue.

That’s not aid, it’s tribute, and we’re not dealing with a rational government in Cairo, but a band of Islamist pirates.

Any U.S. aid cut to Egypt, top MB lawmaker Essam el-Erian told the pan-Arabic al-Hayat newspaper, would violate the U.S.-brokered 1979 peace agreement with Israel.

1979. That wasn’t a good year. 2012 is feeling more and more like 1979.
