Looks like no one told Emanuel Cleaver that we’re in the midst of The Obama Recovery ™. From The Hill (emphasis added):
Congressional Black Caucus Chairman Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) expressed concern President Obama’s budget would go too far to rein in government spending in the midst of an economic recovery, calling the forthcoming proposal a “nervous breakdown on paper.”
“This budget is a nervous breakdown on paper,” said Cleaver during an interview on CNN’s “Starting Point” Monday morning. “We’re still in a recession, we’re still struggling. Unemployment is still too high,” he said.
We’re “in the midst of an economic recovery,” but “[w]e’re still in a recession”?
Let’s hope they keep sending mixed signals about recovery/recession… that will help blunt the leftymedia spin that “everything’s getting better.”

Translation: Obama’s doing a good job, vote for him again. But not really but vote, really.
Okay just vote for him no matter what.
That’s not the only cognitive dissonance exhibited by the esteemed congresscritter. He states congress suffers from ” ‘spendicitis ” (his word) yet bemoans the idea that GOP pressure will cause “… the federal government to turn the spigot off completely.”
Part of the problem here is the technical definition of recession v.s. the technical definition of recovery. The administration is technically right. But what actually matters to the unemployed isn’t these technicalities, but whether there are any jobs to be had. Cleaver’s right about what actually matters, and the technicalities are just technicalities.
snork – What is Cleaver right about other than, maybe, the feel of the “Obama recovery”? I submit he’s not right about much at all considering the problems with our economy currently are almost all government driven. Overspending, out of control debt, lack of any real recovery other than those technicalities, etc. Get government out of the way of job creation and there will be plenty of jobs to be had.
If government spending led to jobs and prosperity, we’d all be living like lottery winners by now.
In fact, government spending does just the opposite, because the government has to take the money out of the pockets of people and businesses before it can spend it.
This is what you get when you elect a stupid Marxist Spade.you get what you deserve..
