Obama Says He's Getting Better at this President Thing

Which brings to mind a Beatles tune…I have to admit, it’s getting better, a little better all the time (it couldn’t get no worse)…

During an interview that aired Monday on NBC’s “Today” show, President Obama said that he gets “better as time goes on” at his job and that he believes the grassroots movement that propelled him to victory in 2008 will help him win a second term.

“What’s frustrated people is that I’ve not been able to implement every aspect of what I said in 2008. Well, it turns out our Founders designed a system that makes it more difficult to bring about change than I would like sometimes. But what we have been able to do is move in the right direction,” Obama said.

Yeah, too bad about that system of checks and balances the framers put in place to restrain folks like Barack Obama. You’d think a constitutional law prof would understand that that’s the whole point of the system.

MATT LAUER: Let’s talk about domestic politics. Mitt Romney is a guy who’s running for your job, he may eventually become the nominee. He’s a guy who has been incredibly successful in his life and career, he’s made a lot of money, it’s not a crime. It’s part of the American dream. Do you think, though, that Mitt Romney can identify with the middle class, and the underclass, in this country.

Obama took a pass on the easy chance the question presented to hammer Romney’s “I’m not concerned about the very poor” comment. Perhaps the president’s mind was on the game, or he was just more interested in getting to his “everybody is doing their fair share” schtick. But look at the question. One millionaire asking another millionaire whether a third millionaire can relate to the middle and under class, before a game in which a few dozen millionaires would be bashing heads against each other, for the entertainment of the rest of us.

Hey Matt, we’d all like to be millionaires. Why don’t you and your friend there spread some of your wealth around?

Meanwhile, Matt Lauer has probably never thought to ask if a community organizer who has never held a real job prior to the presidency, and whose chief relationships with corporate America has been either to shake them down or take them over, can relate to average Americans.
