For the better part of two years, and the worst part of his career, Andrew Sullivan hounded Sarah Palin to prove that her son, Trig, is in fact her son. There was and is no evidence that Trig Palin is not Sarah Palin’s son, but that never deterred our Utero-5-0 investigating agent, Andrew Sullivan. He pestered her for her medical records, speculated irresponsibly that Bristol Palin is actually Trig’s mother, and generally exposed himself as an ignorant buffoon on the subjects of women, child birth, life, the universe, and everything. (Useful summary and takedown here, written by Justin Elliott.)
But now that his Obama-praising article has thrust him back into some temporary prominence, he steps gingerly away from the Trig Truther one-man debate.
Megyn Kelly has declared that I am “not a real journalist.” She has also just said that I have written that Trig is not Sarah Palin’s child. As longtime readers well know, I took great pains never to state that and merely to ask Palin, given her insane story about the birth of her child, to provide some evidence for it, which she said she would but never did. The Beast has asked for a correction. Real journalists do not tell untruths on air without correcting them.
Yeah. That’s what we call a lie. He even betrays as much with the phrase “insane story about the birth of her child.” Here’s what Sullivan said in an email exchange on the subject of Trig Palin’s birth and parentage back in 2009:
[Query, starting off with a Sullivan quote about (of course) Provicetown:]
“Oh, and the sewer broke over July 4, with poo coming up out of the drains and showers and toilets. Good times.”
Hmm…..in metaphoric terms, this is a pretty good description of one of your blog posts on Governor Palin and her son, Trig.
[Sullivan’s answer in entirety:]
he’s not her son
Just asking questions, huh?
