According to a South Carolina InsiderAdvantage poll, Newt Gingrich is surging once again:
The poll of 726 registered voters was completed Wednesday night and offered the following results:
Romney — 23 percent
Gingrich — 21 percent
Santorum — 14 percent
Paul — 13 percent
Huntsman — 7 percent
Perry — 5 percent
I have not seen any other polls like this, so this may just be an outlier. Could Newt come back again? We’ve seen crazier things during this campaign.

Once conservatives realize that Newt is 1) The only genuine conservative with a chance of winning; 2) The victim of a coordinated 3-way attack by the Republican Establishment (Romney), Libertarians (Ron Paul), and liberals (the media) to destroy the one real conservative who could have made a difference.
Newt was winning before these groups ganged up and smeared him with false and misleading crap. I am voting for Newt and have alot of friends in my neighborhood (A few miles from Myrtle Beach) that are doing the same. I think he will win SC, and if that happens, who know…
“Once conservatives realize that Newt is 1) The only genuine conservative with a chance of winning;”
Did our debt and government grow under Newt’s corrupt tenure as speaker?
Did corruption and crony capitalism grow under his corrupt tenure as speaker?
Does he support Woodrow Wilson style world cop policies? Put another way, does he support cutting entitlements and the size of government here at home while increasing them in other countries?
Did he have to resign as speaker because of corruption charges?
Did he make money off of Fannie and Freddie for his patented influence-peddling?
Is he currently giving Democrats ammo to attack Mitt Romney?
He’s no conservative. Far from it.
“The victim of a coordinated 3-way attack”
I believe that Don Imus was right when he called him a corrupt, fat, disgusting, scum sucking weasel who oozes slime. (We can only hope they have hoses set up outside every one of his rallies so people can clean up after coming in contact with this degenerate scumbag)
If he’s a victim…He’s a victim of himself. And he deserves what he gets.
Ron Paul has been in congress for 20+ years and has yet to guide any significant legislation into law. Of course, Paul wasn’t in congress was Newt was the Speaker; that’s a significant disadvantage for Paul.
“Ron Paul has been in congress for 20+ years and has yet to guide any significant legislation into law.”
That says a lot about the Big Government, Big Spending GOP, now doesn’t it?
“Of course, Paul wasn’t in congress was Newt was the Speaker;”
Scumbag Newt really was a pioneer…His cronyism, corruption and fake conservative ways really paved the way for Pelosi’s swamp.
“that’s a significant disadvantage for Paul”
I’m pretty sure Paul would have avoided the scumbag. (At the very least just to keep his suit clean)
I haven’t heard of any Ron Paul Bill to seriously cut federal taxing-and-taking (never mind abolishing anything) that ever came to a floor vote in the House. Even if it was defeated something like 390 to to 23, putting something forward and getting it voted up or down would be something.
Talk is cheap. And cheap talk ain’t Texan.
“Talk is cheap. And cheap talk ain’t Texan”
Big Spending, Big Government George Bush proved that…
He is a genuine conservative who conserves taxpayers’ money into his own pocket.
Then again, it is one poll. There is enough volatility between polls that we should take all of them with a king-sized grain of salt.
That said, Newt is the very epitome of everything alleged conservatives so despise among the rabbit-pack that infests Washington. He is an academician and “public servant” (read “big-government fan who feeds at the taxpayer trough”) with no appreciable experience in the private sector. And his personal history is simply deplorable. The only thing he has going for him is his silvery tongue. I seem to recall someone from Arkansas who fit that description to a tee…can’t put my finger on it…
Three things I see:
1. Perry at 5 Percent. He’s been at 5 Percent in SC for a couple of months now. This might be signs of a patient in “flatline”.
2. If this holds, it means the “Paul Firewall” is over. As long as Paul was in the number 2 position, it was good for Romney, since none of the other candidates can get any oxygen.
3. If this is how Paul really is performing, it explains his post SC strategy(He doesn’t appear to have one, and this poll might be why ).
oh oh, here come Romney’s shock troops.
lessee, they’ve tried the racist angle with Perry, they tried the women angle with Cain, they’ve tried the throw the shit at the wall angle with Newt, and also the “anti capitalist” smear. What’s left?
Not to worry, lovers of luke-warm center-left crony statism, they’ll come up with something.
I find it astonishing that anyone thinks that the voters of South Carolina resemble in any way the voters of New England. They haven’t since the founding of Charleston in 1670. They were trying to kill each other a mere 150 years ago.
You can guess who paid for this poll.
From InsiderAdvantage’s website:
“…InsiderAdvantage combine unmatched elements of marketing research skill and political expertise to help you turn out the voters you want – those who will vote for your candidate or issue….”
While I will have to hold my nose, Newt is still better than Mitt. Pundits are right on Mitt. He’s McCain/Dole lukewarm stand for nothing RINO. Newt, despite baggage galore, still gets the nod from people like Art Laffer, Thomas Sowell, and in today’s WSJ, Ari Fleischer. I don’t know how he can keep from self-immolation, but he knows the Federal Government, and how it works, and has a record of getting legislation passed. What a group, though! My goodness.
kidc,
Your comments about Newt knowing how to get legislation passed are spot-on. Newt got real conservative legislation passed with a Democrat President. The same as Reagan did with a Democrat Congress.
The same arguments being made against Newt are the same that were made against Reagan in 1980. As you note, Romney is just another McCain/Dole/GHW Bush/Ford/Schwarzenegger/Bloomberg/Specter/Crist/Murkowski/Collins/Snowe/etc.
“Newt got real conservative legislation passed with a Democrat President”
He did a nice little kabuki dance, talked big, did very little and our government grew, corruption got worse, debt went up and the GOP got voted out on its ass. (If there were any justice in this world, even an ounce, this corrupt sh*t oozing slug would be in jail right now)
