From Howard Fineman at the Huffington Post:
In a brief interview with The Huffington Post on Friday, Paul acknowledged he will have a decision to make if he loses the GOP bid come August.
In his conversation with HuffPost, Paul noted that he had won nearly as many delegates in Iowa as Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum had, and that he was likely to pick up a good share here in New Hampshire and — having hauled in $13 million last quarter — in other contests to come.
With many delegates in a bloc heading into the convention in Tampa, didn’t that mean he would remain committed to the GOP and not run an independent candidacy in the fall, even if he did not secure the nomination?
“I’ll decide that later,” Paul said while he was waiting for his son Rand Paul, a GOP senator from Kentucky, to finish an interview with the press.
When asked whether it would be difficult to run independently with a son who might want to run for the GOP nomination some day, the senior Paul said again, “I’ll decide that later,” before being hustled to a press event.
In the past, Paul has sounded more certain that he wouldn’t seek an independent presidential run, though he has not flatly denied the possibility.

Yep, the OMG BLACK HELICOPTERS! crowd would do the same thing to the eventual GOP nominee as Ross Perot did to Bush 41.
Paul is not a Libertarian, he’s a Looneytarian. And yes, CW, he is likely … “for the good of the country” … to make a 3rd-party run and split the vote.
You mock at your own expense.
I see you calling names on here all the time, but for once please defend Ron Paul with a fact. Also, would you favor a third party run by Paul if he doesn’t get the GOP nomination? Yes or no?
Ella, that is simply not true. Show me more than one post that I have called anyone a name. As a general rule I don’t even respond to name-calling posts. I would be happy to engage in conversation with those that want to engage respectively like you seem to want.
Here is what I know about Ron Paul:
1. Believes in sound financial policy
2. Is Pro-life (probably my #1 cause)
3. Support home-schooling and decreased Fed Govt control
4. Supports gun rights
5. Worker’s rights, securing borders, energy independence, The Constitution.. the list goes on and on.
That sounds conservative to me. And I believe he has been consistent with those ideas for 30 years.
Would I support him as an Indy? Well, here is who I will support as a GOP candidate in this order. 1. Paul, 2. Santorum, 3. Bachman (although gone now), 4. Perry.
Don’t know if I would support Romney and quite certain would not support Gingrich. I would write in a vote most likely as my conscious is more important than propping up a flailing GOP.
Now, let me ask you, what do you not like about Paul? BTW, my wife was born in your fine city. We still love visiting your area (Olympia/Tacoma/Seattle).
News flash: ALL politicians get mocked.
Obama gets mocked.
Bush got mocked.
Clinton got mocked.
Bush (the elder) got mocked.
Reagan got mocked.
Carter got mocked.
Ford got mocked.
Nixon got mocked.
Ad nauseum.
If your Secular Savior RuPaul can’t take the heat, he needs to get out of the kitchen… which is a quote from another president that got mocked.
And if you can’t handle mockery of your Secular Savior RuPaul, then you need to quit visiting blogs.
I second that…..
And Paul won’t run.
i find it odd when obama supporters claim paul supporters have a messiah complex..You guys loved obama and he had no past to justify anything, you fell for a salesman with cheap cliche like “yes we can”..DO you realize looking back that there were thousands of people chanting like zombies “yes we can: to anything he said. Ron Paul speaks more like a professot and the reason people like him is because people are sick of war and killing people.Your savior killed 24 innocent people in pakistan ans waited a week to say sorry.he insisted on putting into the ndaa bill that he could detain any american citizen forever without trial!
Paul running will not help Obama for two main reasons
1.If you pay attention to the b logs itds clear if paul does not run none of his supporters are voting for the republican candidate.to the contrary since they believe there is no difference between any other candidate and obama they will sit out.Actually i have read alot of people that are going to vote for obama as a protest vote cause they are so pissed off at the republican party..
2.he will take more from obama because the republican candidate not going to get his supporters anyway. there are lot of disillusioned obamatards out there..plus if he gets into the debates obama is going to seem like a hawk and right wing on stuff like the patriot act, this will expose him..
if ron paul does not run third party obama has a really good shot but ronmney may still be able to beat him essentially because he is the same and obama has lost alot of support..
If you, Mr. Weiss, are trying to paint me as an Obamabot, you clearly haven’t read my blog.
Anyone who has any question about where I stand on any issue just has to click on my username, where I have a long paper trail of opinions.
But, of course, Ronulans tend to close their eyes to anything that doesn’t fit their predetermined worldview.
If Ron Paul runs 3rd party, Rand Paul can kiss his promising political career goodbye.
