Via Israel Hayom:
The new Tunisian government is gearing up to ratify a new constitution, and its language includes a section condemning Zionism and ruling out any friendly ties with Israel.
Tunisia was the first country to experience a popular uprising in what would later be known as the Arab Spring, sending former president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali fleeing to Saudi Arabia in January. Tunisians held their first open elections on Oct. 23 in which the moderate Islamist Ennahda (Renaissance) party, lead by Rachid Ghannouchi, won 30 percent of the 217-seat assembly. The second largest percentage of votes went to the secular and liberal Democratic Progressive Party.
Both leading parties are believed to support constitutional clauses that oppose the normalization of ties with Israel.

Sure, if you have a neighbor with a nicer house than yours, fantasizing about kicking him in the groin and throwing a brick through his window is easier than working to rise to his level. You know, if, God forbid, they ever managed to bring down Israel it would be a “victory” based on indulging their jealousy, thirst for revenge, and hatred. Does it occur to ANYONE in the arab world that this is sick and evil? This obsession of theirs reveals a deeply flawed, backward culture. How about EARNING respect through building, creating, educating, modernizing? I guess they are afraid that if they stop screaming about Israel it will sink in that Israel is the least of their problems.
Same can be said for the Occupiers.
If they stop screaming about Israel, their people might figure out who is responsible for the miserable state of affairs in their own country. Starvation, lack of clean water, lack of religious freedom, repression of women and minorities etc etc. As it is now, they all just want to immigrate to the U.S. and then impose sharia here so they can turn us into a new shitholistan.
I hate to say it, but everyone would be better off if these Arab countries were still colonies of a European power or the Ottoman Empire. Most of them are animals, and dictatorship is all they’re fit for.
To put something like this into the constitution reveals just how deep the pathological anti-semitic hatred of Israel is. The spring has put to rest the myth that Arab antisemitism was just a tool used by the autocrats to control the population and divert their attention. It will get worse now that they are gone and there is some degree of popular control.
Tunisia once had a large jewish population of over 100,000. Just a handful remain. They where subjected to djimi second class status and so long as they remained in that role were more or less tolerated just as in the rest of the muslim world.
Israel is unthinkable to these people. The concept of Jews having a state of their own, a thriving and powerful one at that, is painful to the fragile web of myths around which their identity is based.
One silver lining coming out of the ‘spring’ is that it will allow Israel to focus its policies without the false goal of a real peace with its neighbors including the Palestinians. Clearly that is not going to happen. The only peace will be one based on deterrence.
I do think it was a tool, but I think that the new overlords know how powerful a tool it is, so are grasping it firmly.
