No decision yet on whether he will continue his quest for the GOP nomination, but a decision could come within the next few days.
“Obviously, you’re all aware of this recent firestorm that hit the news yesterday,” Cain began, his voice somber. “First thing I want to do is say to you what I have said publicly: I deny those charges, unequivocally. Secondly, I have known this lady for a number of years. And thirdly, I have been attempting to help her financially because she was out of work and destitute, desperate. So thinking that she was a friend, and I have helped many friends, I now know that she wasn’t the friend that I thought she was. But it was a just a friendship relationship.”
“That being said, obviously, this is cause for reassessment,” he continued. “As you know, during the summer we had to make some reassessments based upon our financial situation. We were able to hang in there; we reassessed the situation and kept on going. We also did a reassessment after the Iowa straw poll and we made another reassessment after the Florida straw poll. When the previous two accusations, false accusations, came about, we made another assessment. The way we handled those was, we continued on with our schedule. We made an assessment about what was going to happen to our support. But our supporters, and even some folks that we didn’t have as supporters, they stood with us, and they showed it, not only in terms of their verbal support, they showed it in terms of their dollars.”
“Now, with this latest one, we have to do an assessment as to whether or not this is going to create too much of a cloud, in some people’s minds, as to whether or not they would be able to support us going forth,” Cain said.
Cain also noted that Ginger White’s allegations have taken an “emotional toll” on himself and his family. Yesterday’s non-denial from Cain’s lawyer didn’t help, obviously, nor did the admission that he has helped her financially, or the late night text messages to her from his personal phone. The lawyer statement sounded like an admission that, today, Cain is contradicting on the record.

It looks as though we have, for all practical purposes, allowed David Axelrod choose who is eligible to be the GOP candidate.
Shame on us for letting this happen.
I said it yesterday and I’ll say again. You’ll hear lots of Democrats say they’d like nothing more than to run against candidate X and that Romney/Huntsman is our best bet, but this is just a bunch of claptrap reverse psychology. They want to run against the person they are most likely to beat. Both Romney and Huntsman are RINOs (with Romney pretty much being the white version of Obama). It’ll be the 2008 election all over again, with two liberals running against each other while the GOP liberal constantly gives Obama a pat on the back while spitting in the faces of his own supporters.
It’s this kind of nomination process that broke the camel’s back and created the Tea Party. And now the Tea Party is going to need to be more active than ever if they wish to prevent corrupt practices like this from happening again. We need a strong candidate. Preferably Paul Ryan.
Oh, and by the way, the “lady” in question, Ginger White, is “a divorced mother of two with a long history of financial troubles”.
Where have we heard a story like THAT before? Some irresponsible spendthrift skank is out for whatever money she can get, never mind how she gets it.
Somebody out there whose pockets are deeper than Mr. Cain’s evidently gave or promised her enough money to go over to the other side.
We may eventually find out exactly who paid her to commit slander, but by then, it will most likely be too late.
It is a national disgrace that we allow slander and libel against public figures to go unpunished. It’s time to change the “New York Times” standard for defamation because it makes it all but impossible for public figures to put a stop to this sort of thing.
– please release all your records.
Are we to believe that Herman Cain is an idiot? If one truly had this sort of baggage wouldn’t common sense dictate that one would either come clean up front or simply not run?
The stuff that this media, under the guidance of David Axelrod, expects us to swallow is insulting.

Sorry for using comments section to redirect, but I’m seriously pissed off about the GROWING INEVITABILITY of a Cain withdrawal.
Cain should not only NOT withdraw, but should use the occasion to inform the American people about how the media is keeping them on the plantation and redouble his efforts for the presidency.
Seriously. Is Cain was the Saturday Night Live stereotypical ‘ladies man’ character that MSM is portraying him as? C’mon people.
I just heard Cain say he has helped many people over the years. Let’s hear them come forward and show their financial records. I think Cain is a BSer who has benefitted from (un)Equal Opportunity.
Some one some where is very very worried about losing power and Mr Cain is just the man they fear! This is a hit job – smells like a hit job – quacks like a hit job and well…… smells like a dead fish -or Chicago dumpster!
