The United Nations hasn’t even finished the $2 billion renovation of its New York headquarters (cost over-runs currrently 225% above the UN’s original estimate), and already it’s lobbying member states for another $3 billion for another big building in New York, and an overhaul of its palatial offices in Geneva. George Russell of Fox News has put himself through the torment of reading the relevant UN documents, and has the story.
U.S. taxpayers would of course be expected to pony up America’s usual 22% or more of the cost. But the worst of it is, these billions in buildings are all meant to accommodate UN plans for an ever-expanding staff. And if the UN builds it, you can bet that they will come. Where does this end?

i saw how much some of these pampered preening peacocks make. it is obscene.
they expect more, more, more, and we get what? nothing. we get to worry they
will try to take us all over. let’s just let everybody spend $$ we don’t have.
heck, i saw the other day that we borrow $$ from china and then give it back to them in aid. sounds just like what our lawyer layer loves. mo$$$2spend.

It will end when the US stops paying for it. This is a vote getter in 2012.
I understand there’s lots of commercial real estate available in Dubai.
They can build the buildings here, but in Detroit. Otherwise Harare, Zimbabwe, or perhaps Mecca, Saudi Arabia, or Pyongyang, North Korea. The true garden spots created by socialist/totalitarian regimes – If the UN likes them so much then they have to meet in those countries.
Donald Trump testified about this scandal to Congress several years ago.
Say what you like about Trump, but he knows a lot about building construction and renovation, especially in New York. And he was scathing. He said flatly that the UN was wasting hundreds of millions of dollars (at that time the project was not as far over budget as it is now).
Trump noted that the UN had paid about $25M in fees to architects, and still had no complete plan for the renovation. He pays millions to architects too – but he gets the work done. He had talked with the man in charge of the project – who didn’t know what kind of heat the UN Building has.
The UN is spherical mess – a mess from any angle.
