Video: Harry Reid Says the Private Sector is ‘Doing Just Fine;’ Democrats Will Emphasize Government Jobs

What we have here is a clash of worldviews. Sen. Harry Reid, Democrat leader in the US Senate, wants you to know that despite the layoffs and business failures, the dead housing market and the bleak prospects for those of us who aren’t living in gold-plated government jobs with lavish union-approved pension plans, the private sector is just fine.

Unemployment remains above 9 percent. But the private sector is doing just fine, says Harry Reid.

And he’s not finished there. He also wants you to know that he and his party are done trying to stimulate the private sector, and that they want to now grow the public sector.

Have a look at this Heritage chart, from February 2011.

While the private sector has outpaced the government sector’s job growth over the past few months, the fact is, it’s barely keeping pace with overall population growth and the Democrats came into power with Obama growing government faster than anything else. That’s about the only thing they have done successfully. That’s probably because government jobs are just about the only type of jobs most Democrats understand how to create. Throw money at a bureaucracy, it hires more people, productivity need not matter. The problem is, the private sector has to pay for that through taxes, which can end up squelching private sector job growth.

And that brings us to our clash of worldviews. Reid’s is a government-centered world view. The Republicans have a different approach. They don’t think that the overregulated private sector is “doing just fine,” and want to unshackle it so that it can grow again and create more jobs.

What Harry Reid has done is set himself up to star in GOP ads next year that will fairly depict the Democrats from Obama on down as out of touch with the world outside the beltway. Unless the economy is booming on election day, that ad will resonate.

  1. You will never convince me that Reid and the SEIU didn’t steal his last election.

While reading the first sentence of the article I began asking out loud ” How did this piece of cheese get elected?”
Pelosi I can understand given the make-up of her demographic, but Reid? I have only been to Nevada once, and not to Vegas. All I met were gun-nut conservatives. I am guessing he doesnt get one vote outside of the city limits of Vegas.

I grew up in Nevada, conservative mostly old Dem. types, hard working, always helpful. Clark co. has the largest population (Las Vegas) all you need there is that county to win. The Californicators have been moving in for 25 years and get elected to positions and effectively change the politics like Cal. progressive liberal. B H O won Clark co. and Washoe co. (Reno) the rest of the state is red, but only about 10% of the population. Whore house Harry told the casinos/unions if he was not elected that the conservatives were going to impose more regulations/ restrictions. The unions in Vegas are strong enough to control the voting block and made the casino owners pay for bussing an the time off for the workers to vote, Whore house Harry wins. Steve Wynn one of the largest casino owners has admitted this.

        • I also lived in NV as a teen, graduated from Carson City High School. My family, staunch conservatives, still live there.

I agree with your assessment. Clark County dwarfs the rest of the state, population wise and the idiots fleeing California because of its big government/big taxation arrive without realizing why they had to flee and bring their liberal sensibilities with them.

          Cause and effect? What’s that?

That’s the way it is with locusts. We have the same problem in the south with those fleeing Mass, NY, NJ, Michigan, Illinois…….you name the liberal rust belt state. They come for opportunity but bring their politics with them.

    • Along with the support of the Deceased-American community, which reliably posts a huge Democrat vote, especially in minority precincts.

I am convinced that ghost voters, along with Soros money, allowed Obama to get his start in politics, and accounted for at least some of his majority in 2008.

No. What we have is a marvelous campaign video ad opportunity for the GOP.

The Democrats and thie president keep giving the GOP “let them eat cake” gifts.

    • No, it isn’t an opportunity for the GOP as a whole. The party establishment are all RINOs, all the time. Same with Mitt Romney, Karl Rove, and that despicable Muslim Brotherhood mole, Grover Norquist.

It’s an opportunity for the Tea Party. It’s an opportunity for Herman Cain, Allen West, and many other genuinely conservative, free-market candidates who are coming up for election in 2012.

Don’t donate your money to the GOP; they’ll never run an ad like that. Donate it to individual candidates and to your local Tea Party efforts.

  3. Fool.
    Statist, socialist, and totalitarian…but fool.

Allow me to correct this paragraph to align with REALITY!

What Harry Reid has done is set himself up to star in GOP ads next year that should fairly depict the Democrats from Obama on down as out of touch with the world outside the beltway. But only if the Republicans have the intestenal fortitude for a fight and the political will to take on the Democrats on issues that will make them look bad to the Mainstream Media. Unless the economy is booming come election day, such an ad would resonate.

Obama came into office at the perfect time to create millions of jobs and get the unemployment rate moving in the right direction, but he along with democrats in Congress blew it with failed leadership and bad policies.

If you take over the presidency when unemployment is below 5% which is basically considered full employment it is the worst time to create new jobs because you are already at full employment. The best you can hope for is to maintain the current rate with a modest creation of new jobs and hope that the business cycle isn’t at its peak.

If someone really good at photoshopping (which I am NOT) put a little mustache on Harry in the still shot,(start of the article) old Harry would look damn close to some German guy, who led the death of millions in WWII.

    Show that salute, Harry..
