Honestly, I’d rather be playing Arkham City. I have it in my possession, but thanks to tonight’s debate it’ll stay in the box a while longer. On the other hand, we do have a real live Joker in the White House…
Will anything change tonight? Once again, the GOP has given the MSM license to pester and foil our candidates for a couple of hours on national TV. Great idea, let’s do it again in a few weeks. Last time it was Charlie Rose and Karen Tumulty, this time around it’s Anderson Cooper. The heart of the debate will supposedly be about national security. That’s a tough test for Cain, who sits atop the polls but has thus far demonstrated no foreign policy acumen to speak of. National security probably benefits Newt Gingrich the most, and probably Rick Perry and Mitt Romney somewhat equally after that. Ron Paul — RON PAUL — can be expected to bring his unique brand of blaming America for the world’s ills to the stage. Bachmann and Santorum are pretty solid in foreign policy, but Perry is a border state governor and Romney is a smart man who has studied foreign policy for years. Perry’s main task will be to not let the other candidates make it seem like he’s not there. Huntsman actually won’t be there. Guess he couldn’t score tickets to the big game.
The big questions are, can Cain maintain, and can Perry get his mojo back. Debates haven’t mattered in Texas politics for a blue moon, but they have mattered probably too much in this primary season. They have their place, but records really should count for something and they don’t seem to be counting for very much so far.
Gingrich will probably shine, and Romney is unlikely to stumble. Cain needs to seem plausible as a commander in chief (a task tweaked by the cheeky gamers at EA today). Perry needs to sparkle and deliver some YouTube-able moments.
If I’m not mistaken, the first part of the theme in that video is from one of the Command & Conquer games. Good times…
I won’t be liveblogging the debate, but I will be watching and will post a score after it’s said and done. The festivities begin at 8 pm ET on CNN.

These are not debates; they are game shows.
Why not have Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul as moderators? And why do these fools allow themselves to be tormented by MSM ankle-biters?
I am so not fooled by the validity of these freak shows that I still consider Perry the most viable candidate: he has a ten year track record to prove it for God’s sake. We need to have grownups and grownup values in charge of the whole nominating process, and these “debates” are not grownup affairs.
If by “Ron Paul blames America” you mean that he understands the fact that if we position troops in hundreds of countries overseas, try to enforce our ways of life upon them, and cause some “civilian casualties” here and there, then THAT WILL COME BACK TO BITE US IN THE BUTT… Yeah, he really blames America. Sigh… It’s ridiculous opinions like those that leave me with no hope for America’s future. Yep, because he doesn’t stand around cheering ANYTHING America does, and assuming America’s policies must always be right because – well, we’re America, and how could we be wrong – he clearly wants to blame America for “all the world’s ills.” It’s called common sense, and being able to look at America in an unbiased sense, the way the REST of the world sees us. Patriotism and nationalism, though nice in moderation, blind you from seeing the truth of your country’s policies when used in excess. Of course, the government knows this – you clearly do not – but they are the ones that spin the “anyone who disagrees with America’s current policies is not a patriot and blames America for everything” lie. Don’t fall prey to it. Think for yourself.
Ron Paul sees reality and knows that we aren’t always right 100% of the time. Yes, even America makes mistakes here and there (gasp!). If that bothers you, by all means, continue living in a delusional dangerously patriotic fantasy where the American government is totally infallible. Just don’t blame Dr. Paul for seeing through the propagandist bullshit that you so readily, perhaps unconsciously subscribe to.
Here come the Ronulans.
Do you really believe folks need an excuse to resent us. We do nothing, and they whine that we are doing nothing. We do something, and they blame us for doing something or say we are doing it wrong. We get no credit for all the good we do, just ever more demands and criticism.
We do not cause the muzzies to kill each other or hate the Jews. For all the griping, Iraq is a far better place today, and they are begging us to stay. Iran was a far better place when we put in the Shah. Soon after the Revolution, folks were missing the Shah, kinda like with Bush here. “Miss me yet?”
All the BS about blowback is just propaganda generated by those who seek power, or are just psychopaths who seek a fig leaf for their sheer desire to murder. We could be as innocent as lambs, and they would still blame us.
I was in Germany during the Reagan years. We were defending them at their request, but there was this outcry for us to leave, because some of our troops tended to leave babies behind. Others blamed us for the existing Cold War. If we would just go away, everything would be fine. But they sure loved it when the Berlin Wall came down. They loved reunification.
And I remember the Red Brigade during those times. Psychopaths. Just a fig leaf for their desire to kill. Evil people blame us. They always will blame others. It is their nature. Human nature. Some people are just vile beyond belief.
And ignorant folks like Paul and his Ronulans will never understand evil people. What you want is not ever possible, because evil people exist. In large numbers. You Far-Right Libertarians are just as crazy as the Far-Left Totalitarians. Delusional lunatic fringes.
As far as too much emphasis, I disagree. It is not enough for a guy to have a good record. He has to explain how he did it. He has to really understand it. The Presidency is a job. This is part of the interview process. I do not care how good you are, if you suck at interviews, you are NOT getting the job, nor do you deserve to. Make a good case for yourself, or quit wasting our time.
Gingrich will do fine, as will Romney, as he has been boning up for years. Cain better do far better, since everyone will be coming after him. Bachmann and Santorum will do fine. Paul will be looney. It’s all on Cain. He has to make a case for himself.
cfbleachers did a good job of saying what needs to be said in the Cain article on the main page. Read it.
