It’s time to retire, Mayor Mike.
Speaking on the government’s role in diet and health last week, Bloomberg told the UN General Assembly, “There are powers only governments can exercise, policies only governments can mandate and enforce and results only governments can achieve. To halt the worldwide epidemic of non-communicable diseases, governments at all levels must make healthy solutions the default social option. That is ultimately government’s highest duty.”
Somehow, pushing healthy food escaped the notice of our Founding Fathers.

i never thought this response would be necessary on pjm but….
/facepalm
Would you call a “worldwide epidemic of non-communicable diseases”: (a) a paradox; (b) an oxymoron; or (c) a self-contradiction?
Is stupidity a communicable disease?
I’m beginning to think so. And one of the disease vectors appears to be Bloomberg himself.
Yes, stupidity IS a communicable disease. It’s called public education.
Yes, stupidity is definitely communicable. There’s an epidemic right now amongst politicians the world over.
Speaking on the government’s role in matters of personal, private and preference behavior, “There are powers only individuals can exercise, policies made by governments politicians attempting to mandate and enforce them are totalitarian infringements and virtually ever time result only in government overreaching, abuse, fraud, graft, worse, brutality and death.
To halt the worldwide epidemic of officious inter-meddling by putative “do-gooders” and other arrogant busybodies, who can’t mind their own business, (much less that of everyone else), governments and these servants of the public at all levels, must make minding their own business the default social option. That is ultimately government’s highest duty.”
Think of the opportunity for bootleg Twinkies.
This is just a political ploy designed to extort donations from food producers.
It must be possible to make a facetious reference to Zombieland at this point, but a good one is eluding me…
Sigh. Can we make it a condition of citizenship that people swear allegiance to our funding documents? I realize it’s a crazy idea, but my job involves spinning those. We’re not a nation of consanguinity but a nation of beliefs. What makes us Americans is not our DNA but our laws. It makes sense for other nations to have blood-and-soil based citizenship, but I wonder if ours should be based on believing in and affirming allegiance to the declaration and the constitution. As far as belief in those, Bloomberg is not only foreign. I think he’s from Alpha Centauri.
Then again, the founding fathers (and my tax money) didn’t have to pay for the triple bypass surgery or lung cancer treatment you needed because you exercised your freedom to smoke or east unhealthy foods. A state has rights and responsibilities. Obesity related diseases are bankrupting our health care systems. If you enjoy your tax dollars funding that. All the power to you.
I’d much rather have it be my insurance premiums paying for that instead of my taxes. Yet another reason the government shouldn’t provide health care.
