Wow. I didn’t see that one coming.
I can’t believe Ricardo Perry finished 2nd after such a poor articulation of his positions in the most recent debate.
Florida’s Hispanic population isn’t the same as Texas. The Cubans that arrive in Florida are welcomed as a US policy choice against the Castro regime and as such aren’t “illegal”… Along the border with Mexico, there is no welcome mat and as such what plays in Texas and the other border states will likely not appeal to Hispanics in Florida since their status is different.
I like Herman Cain and I think he was the best. I prefer Rick Perry as a national vote getter… but Herman is a very bright man.
Dont be fooled by Rick Perry. He worked for Gore in 2000, and like any politician, says what you want to hear at the moment. Like the rest of them, he is a liar.
Ferarri, factually incorrect, you are off by more than a decade… do some better research…
Damn, y’all. He’s the only guy I’ve given money to so far. Gonna have to give some more. Rock on, Godfather.
I liked Herman Cain in these debates and am glad that this Romney/Perry side show didn’t distract voters from the message that we taxpayers are trying to get through to Washington. No more RINOs!
I think it’s “Jon” Huntsman, whomever that is….
No more MSM telling us who our candidates are. No more holding our nose. Finally someone who will look for solutions based on ROI. Finally a problem solver based on data not politics. He will clean Obama’s clock in a debate. If he picks Rubio omg!!!!Rubio versus Bidden. Can you imagine.
Today is Herman Cain’s day. Congrats!
This just shows that it is Romney vs Not-Romney. Perry is still likely to be the nominee. Romney’s attacks on Perry in the debate and Perry’s poor performance did not move conservatives toward Romney. Oh, and this is a nice backhand to Morgan Freeman for his racist Tea Partier comments.
Keep going Herman. Keep strong. The rest of these guys are phonies or light weights or both. You go brother.
This is a huge positive.
Doesn’t mean Herman doesn’t deserve to be hit hard by both the media and his GOP competitors. No Coddling of Herman.
But his 9/9/9 would be a breathe of fresh air and he likely has the best private sector resume of all of them.
Really, really happy about this.
Who’s up for throwing away the tax code and starting over?
If you aren’t paying 18% in federal taxes today, you may not like it, because 9% income tax and 9% sales tax = 18%, assuing you spend all your income. Or will you be gambling that you will get special favors like mortgage deductions and deductions for state taxes and child care, like the tax code you hate today? Maybe you’ll be one of the lucky ones.
I know some people who will be REALLY happy. Anybody paying over 20% today.
I developed issues with Perry myself, but Cain? The guy who has actually proposed the most radical restructuring of American life since…well, since forever. His plan is in the same league as Ron Paul’s “plans”. The make believe media are going to have a field day with this.
My head hurts.
Do not forget the 999 plan also eliminates the payroll tax (6.75% for both employee and employer.)
Which, of course, brings up the topics of the defiit and the national debt. How much would 9 9 9 add to those monsters? I’d like to see a third party analysis.
The only rational approach to the country’s economic woes is to reduce government spending, improve the business climate by deregulating, and gradually simplify the tax code over time. Going back to 2007 spending levels isn’t radical because the INCREASE in spending was radial. I’m not advocating for a candidate, just stating common sense.
ANY radical changes are dangerous, including radical changes to the tax code, other than lowering taxes (which has to be matched with government spending cuts). We are in the middle of a 4 years experiment with radical change. I’m not up for another 4 year experiment from the other side.
I’m sure Cain means well. I’ve read his plan. It contains a lot of good ideas and in a perfect world without considering how to get from here to there, it might be swell; but as a package in the real world of today…it’s bonkers.
His plan also has no chance of passing, which is another big issue. Do we really want a candidate who is proposing stuff that can’t possibly pass?
Proreason, you’ve expressed my views/concerns as well.
On the clarity-precision scale, Cain’s 9-9-9 wins. The impact of such a strategy on consumer spending, business growth, hiring, govt. debt reduction, etc., remains unclear.
The one big thing it does is resolve (reduce) the pervasive climate of uncertainty that has so thoroughly log-jammed business and individual financial decision-making. That alone is a significant strength.
Any GOPher candidate that wants to win hearts, minds, wallets and votes would do well to find an equally simple, clear strategy for economic turnaround.
I agree that 9 9 9 is good marketing, at least for conservative leaning people. The devil is in the details.
It’s interesting that Romney’s plan is 50 some pages…not good marketing. Maybe he has a good recap that I haven’t seen.
And Perry seemed to assume that the relative success of Texas was marketing enough.
They could both learn from Cain. Maybe Cain will strengthen the field for that reason alone.
Cain wins! Congratulations to the Hermanator. Now I’m looking forward to Piers Morgan’s follow-up interview with Morgan Freeman…
Cain says, “I’m sorry, your Race Card was declined. Do you have another form of prejudice?”
The MSM will pounce on him now.
Watch out for “Some people wonder about Cain’s bout with cancer. Can he serve a full term?” crap from the Ministry of Propaganda.
I’m sending money to Cain’s campaign. I don’t have a lot.
That’s what he needs most. But he would be a breath of fresh air for the country.
Cain/Rubio 2012
A clever ploy by the racist tea partiers!
I can’t believe there are still 15% of Floridians that think Perry is anything other than a total phony at this point. He’s not even playing a conservative on TV anymore. What the hell does it take to catch the clue train?
What, you think Cain or Romney is better? Cain supported TARP, he’s an establishment Republican–he may be less smelly than most–but that’s what he is.
Yeah his plans are big, but thats what we need right now. The 9/9/9 plan will turn American around. Everone would be paying exactly the same percentage, and everyone would be paying into. Bye bye all this class warfare BS..everyone is equal…gee that sound familiar! Obama made people want Change, but they never asked if it would be GOOD change. This would be GOOD CHANGE !!! YES WE CAIN !!!!!! YES WE CAIN !!! YES WE CAIN!!!!! YES WE CAIN !!!!! YES WE CAIN !!!!
I’m beginning to think we need to take a good look and Herman Cain. Our other choices are no good for us, and Herman has all the right quakifications. Just because some of his ideas seem too far over the top doesn’t mean we can’t consider them Congress won’t pass anything too revolutionary anyway so there’s nothing to fear. Stay away from Rick Perry, he’s a snake.
So happy to see this!!! You GO Herman!!!
*Proud member of “Honkies for Herman 2012*
Rick Perry may seem stupid, greasy, sleazy and dishonest. Trust me . . . he is merely ill-briefed, overconfident and dismissive of facts that fail to conform to his paradigm.
This was a butt-whupping, pure and simple, by Cain. This is gonna leave a mark on the Romney and Perry campaigns. Cain looks good for winning Florida, now! Florida, for Heaven’s sake!
More importantly, because the votes were held all over the place, the Ronulans were not able to gather and stuff the ballot box, thus we see straw poll results which exactly match Paul’s support in various polls across the country. Paul’s support is an inch wide and a foot deep.
Ahem. So the Cainites (sorry, couldn’t resist) would have us replace the current executive (an intelligent black man with no previous political executive experience) with… An intelligent black man with no previous political experience at all.
Excuse me if I’m a tad skeptical.
Of course what’s really funny is watching the fans of various candidates do happy dances when their guy (sorry, Michelle; ain’t happening) “wins” a debate or a straw poll. The election isn’t for another 13 months, and the actual campaign season for at least 3. Doesn’t anyone here remember just four years ago, and the wild roller-coaster ride that was the Republican primary season?
The difference is that he seems more intelligent, and despite a lack of political experience, he’s had a job before.
At least Cain actually ran a real private profit making company, and thus has some basic understanding of capitalism, unlike Obama, who only knows how to use gov to take from his enemies and give to his friends.
Ron Paul 2012.
Woo! Ron Paul won Ohio!
And people, please do some research before you go all in on Cain’s 999 deal. Combining the flat tax with the fair tax is a bad, bad deal. Not to mention it opens the door for a value added tax. Don’t know what that is? Research it. I did as Cain said and read his “plan.” I agree, our current progressive tax system is horrible… but what the 999 plan does is replace it with a regressive one (middle class & poor carry the burden). Yes, our current system needs a makeover… but this is not it. And we need to worry about SPENDING in this country because replacing the tax system is not going to affect anything one way or another in terms of doing something about the trillions and trillions of dollars in debt we have… where is his plan for that?
I said it before, and I’ll say it again, it’s apparent the media only cares about straw poll results when Cain, Perry, or Romney win. Ron Paul won Iowa, California, and Ohio… where’s that news? Please wake up, people… there’s a reason the left and the right are trying to block RP out of the mainstream media… he is someone who if elected, could seriously threaten the status quo. RP 2012!
