It’s Deja Vu: Obama Delivers Stimulus Speech and Dems Lose Elections Again
It’s Ground Hog Day for the White House. And the ramifications are being felt like Washington’s second earthquake in a month.
Last week the president unveiled a $450 billion jobs bill. Last night in New York, the nation’s most reliable liberal congressional district rejected President Obama, voting for a Republican for the first time since 1923. Most disturbing for White House political advisers was that the loss occurred with Jewish voters abandoning the Democratic Party for an unknown Republican. Indeed, the president has a “Jewish problem.”
Another special election in Nevada last night also turned in favor of Republicans as Democratic strongholds did not come out in favor of the Democrat. Nevada will be a key “must win” state for the president.
And polls show Americans continue to express deep pessimism about the future.
Sound familiar? It is a reprise of 2009, when Barack Obama, sagging in the polls, lost liberal New Jersey and Massachusetts to unknown Republican candidates. At the time, the president did not “pivot” after the losses and he lost big in last November’s midterm elections.
One week after the president delivered a speech before a special session of Congress, the defeat has to count as another rebuke to the president’s performance.
This morning Politico reported that the mood among Democrats is morose: “On a high-level campaign conference call Tuesday afternoon, Democratic donors and strategists commiserated over their disappointment in Obama. A source on the call described the mood as ‘awful.’ ‘People feel betrayed, disappointed, furious, disgusted, hopeless.’”
Democrat Minority Whip Steny Hoyer conceded to Politico that the twin electoral losses last night would be regarded as a rejection of the president: “Do I think it will be interpreted as being a statement on Obama? That’s probably correct.”
Bloomberg this morning also reports on the darkening mood of the electorate: “Pessimism Surges as 72% See U.S. Economy on Wrong Course,” reports Mike Dorning. “Just 9 percent say they are confident the economy won’t slide back into recession, in a Bloomberg National Poll.”
But it was the huge upset in New York that was most remarkable. It was a 54-46 Republican landslide victory in New York’s 9th congressional district, which was vacated by uber-Democrat Rep. Anthony Weiner after his sex scandal. My colleague Jennifer Rubin this morning notes that this is a double dose of bad news for the president. New York-9 is not only the most reliably Democratic district in the nation — it is the most Jewish congressional district too.
This vote now proves Obama has a real “Jewish problem.” Republican Jewish Coalition Executive Director Matt Brooks said the vote was a warning to Obama stalwarts who refuse to see the writing on the wall. He said the bruising loss in New York contains “huge implications for 2012 races in states with large Jewish communities, such as Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania.”
Still Democrats at the top still don’t seem to get it. DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz told the New York Times there are no worries: “In this district, there is a large number of people who went to the polls tonight who didn’t support the president to begin with and don’t support Democrats — and it’s nothing more than that.”
Also, behold the Left’s spin machine in action.

Obama is a SCOAMF.
And it’s BOOOOOOOOSHES fault.
Damn, gotta remember to use the “name” field.
Come on, don’t forget to blame The Evil Jooz.
Might want to take a little more time to write these, as Steny Hoyer is the Democrat, not Republican minority whip. Also the 58% to 46% Republican landslide adds up to 104%.
104% is the correct number since the Democrats voted multiple times!
“Democrat Minority Whip Steny Hoyer conceded to Politco …”
looks o.k. to me
Mr. Pollock – How could you resist writing ‘ It’s Deja Vu all over again’?
Progressives are intransigent beyond belief. They keep making the same mistakes over and over, mistakes others before them have made over and over.
I just read the headline and had to laugh. My god just how stupid/insane are these guys?
Watching their downfall is like watching someone paint by numbers….you already know what the picture looks like and just how things are going to turn out.
2012 could have a huge X-factor. Bigger than humanity can ever recall. (It’s just a feeling…)
DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz’ incisive comment reminds me of a Monty Python election night sketch.
Norman, an analyst, thought the result in Leicester was ‘…largely due to the number of votes cast.”
Your are close. I would say Debbie Watereddown Shlitz actually is doing her version of the Parrot Sketch: “The Democratic Party isn’t dead; they’re just pining for Clintons.”
you know, maybe those pesky jews are bitterly clinging to their Torah and their guns too…
And G_d Bless them for it!
Schultz: Whistling past the graveyard.
The beauty of Obama is that he will continue the class warfare, redistributionist, and anti-Israel policies and therefore seal his fate.
Frankly, it (Obama’s reelection strategy) is the most arrogant, asinine and amazing thing I have ever saw in American politics.
I believe it is 54-46, but still 8% lead is huge. It makes it hard to fabricate enough absentee ballots to gin the results. It might be suspicious if the absentee ballots run 84-16 against Turner.
Have we reached the tipping point on the Jewish allegiance to the Donkeys, maybe they are tired of feeling like a**es that are repeatedly taken for granted. Did Obama pick up enough Muslim outreach to offset this defection.
I hope the GOP / tea party realize that the most important thing is for personal freedom to run our lives, jobs, businesses, and families. No more dictates from Washington how to run our schools, that marriage can be something other that what your beliefs are, that Uncle Sam owns or controls every dollar you earn (or used to) and the only doctor you can have will be a HHS robot.
I thought Obama and the 09 Dem Congress would be bad, never thought they would want to control all of us with a boot on our neck. Well it seemed like they have taken the life out of the country.
You don’t know them very well, do you?
They didn’t get half the things done they wanted to, and will STILL do if given the chance.
You really need to do some reading. I suggest you start with the Communist Manifesto, then the Humanist Manifestos, then Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals”.
Then compare what you read with the history of the 20th & 21st centuries.
“But it was the huge upset in New York that was most remarkable. It was a 58-46 Republican landslide victory in New York’s 9th congressional district, which was vacated by uber-Democrat Rep. Happy days really are here again. Keep up the pressure to toss this fraud out of office in 2012. And Mr. President, the next time you treat the Israeli Prime Minister badly, just remember, people DO notice and they DO vote.
Would someone call Andrew Sullivan and see if he can dig out the identity of the father of Weiner’s wife’s baby?
Bill Clinton, but don’t tell anyone, Hillary might get jealous.
One would think ** at least anyone w/brains enough TO think ** that the Dems would sorta have figured this out by now. Obama yaps about jobs –> stock market drops. Obama gives stimulus speech –> Dems lose elections. Not only is he the most over-exposed pres. in history (and it seems he’s on my screen every day), it means less and less. In fact, Obama opening his mouth seems to drive upset and outright anger against him/his party. I believe the unbelievably arrogant and air-head Dems are just beginning to figure out no matter what, Obama canNOT be re-eleced.
Hoyer is a liar. I just heard reported that Jay “Pinhead” Carney said not to read anything into the NYC vote. /just reporting
The answer to this question is easy. Two things are common to all active progressives. One, to a progressive everything is political. Two, their hatred of the conservatives and libertarians and the belief that those people are evil. Thus to admit they are wrong would mean that the foundation for their world view, the very way they have been living their lives, was wrong. It would mean the way they structured their very lives was a lie, was wrong.
Perhaps more importantly it would mean that perhaps the people they hated for so long are correct. If the people they hated, they believed were evil are correct then it might be they who are wrong and evil. They would rather beat their head to a pulp against a stone wall than give up their dreams of a progressive utopia or their hatred of the right.
Social Engineering through Wealth Redistribution (with Class Warfare to get more to Redistribute) never works! And that’s what “Progressivism” is; it’s time we were honest with ourselves. Liberal, Socialist, Communist, Progressive or Nazi; they’re fundamentally all the same – just separated by varying degrees of evil. Every time someone wants to “control” the population to improve it, bad stuff happens.
Like i said years ago:
He’s got the reverse Midas Touch. He can turn diamonds into fertilizer.
Americans are wining the battle against Radical Liberalism on the home front.
What is disturbing to supporters of the Pres is that people on the right lie without anybody calling them on it ALL THE TIME.
If you want to see how much the right would like to go on LYING without being called on it just count the articles here lying about this website,
Why should it bother fox so much…..
Its gonna be like a fact check for people who are tired of hearing people repeat LIES
like the new NATIONAL ANTHEM post of the other night
This is the United States. Who can call themselves a patriot if they literally decide their vote based on how we relate to a foreign country (Israel) Yet they call the President a traitor.
You people are the real laughingstock of this country.
“You people are the real laughingstock of this country.”
We are the country and the people. Deal with it.
Wow. Even for a leftist that was confused! =:O
Please get back to us when you have something coherent to say.
I would love to feel comforted by the recent anti-obama electoral results, but I keep remembering that there are about half the pople out there, half the voters, who are Democrat; and there are tons of money being poured into O’s campaign from unions and Hollywood liberal millionaires; and the upshot will be another bitterly close election, the outcome of which–in my own mind–is still too close to call.
Agreed.
There are WAY too many people doing an early dance on Obama’s grave.
It’s childish and it’s stupid.
Enjoy the victory now, lets hope our joy doen’t turn to sorrow at daybreak. When January 2013 comes let’s hope a Republican is being inaugurated wile President Obama wings west to Chicago. Til then, there is work to be done.
The day after the president’s jobs speech, the stock market went down and the explanation was the debt problem with Greece. The day after Bob Turner got elected to Congress, the stock market went up and the explanation was — improvement with the debt situation in Greece.
No possibility the market reacted to the jobs speech (bad news) and the Turner election (good news).
Two Perspectives on Riots, Jobs, and Poverty
In case no one has noticed, there has been an increasing number of violent outbursts and riots in the streets. New York City’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg and America’s President Barack Hussein Obama have, respectively, keen insights and perspicacious cures for all that civil disruption.
The upheavals in the Mideast are somewhat explicable given the so-called Arab Spring although the violence in the United States and Great Britain can’t be explained away as easily. Fortunately, New York’s Mayor for Life Michael Bloomberg has his finger on the pulse of humanity and is fully capable of pinpointing the cause: poverty and a dearth of jobs.
Hizzonor contended on his Friday radio show, (which he skipped last week due to a scandal in his administration), ”You have a lot of kids graduating college, [who] can’t find jobs. That’s what happened in Cairo. That’s what happened in Madrid. You don’t want those kinds of riots here.”
So, if I understand the mayor correctly, Egyptians weren’t protesting against former despot Hosni Mubarak and the mobs in Spain–and London–were just staging boisterous campaigns for employment and not anarchically revolting?
I’m sorry to advise Mr. Bloomberg that he is wrong as proven by facts and slews of videotapes.
Egyptians wanted to depose Mubarak, and succeeded. The mostly Muslim English rioters would love to have toppled the regimes in that country, but their destructive efforts failed. The Spanish–and the Greeks? Who knows? They always seem annoyed at something or other.
None of this means to suggest poverty and unemployment aren’t serious issues everywhere. As of 2010, America’s national poverty rate stood at 15.1% or 46.2 million people and jobless Americans still number 9.1% of the working population, all of which are horrific figures.
Bloomberg may have analyzed the world situation with his pulsating finger but we have a man in charge of the U.S. economy who has been fingering America’s fiscal health as effectively as Mayor Bloomberg gauged world events.
Some cynics would say President Obama been flipping his finger at the nation since he hasn’t done a damned thing about poverty or unemployment over the course of his 32 months in office.
Correction: He has done a damned thing, he’s made both worse. . .
