Election Night in NY-9 (And Nevada-2) Update: Turner WINS
Will Bob Turner shock the world? Will Obama’s unpopularity cause the Democrats to lose a seat they have held for 90 years? Results from NY-9, formerly known as The Weiner Seat, will be posted here as soon as I get ‘em. If you see them first, pop them in comments. If you live in the district or near it, let us know what you’re seeing and hearing.
More: While we await results, let’s savor the nervousness of Democrats experiencing Obama Remorse.
More: I confess I’m a bit less interested in the Nevada race, but mainly because it looks like a clear win for the GOP. Winning there won’t say as much as winning NY-9. But it will still be great.
Democrat pollster PPP says the GOP wins both of tonight’s races. We’ll see.
More: Heh.
More: Check out Intrade’s read on NY-9. Ouch.
Update: The polls closed at 9 pm eastern in NY-9. Let the shenanigans begin.
Update: NY-9 results will show up here, NV-2 here (thanks, ConservativeWanderer!).
Update: Kerry Picket reports that Turner’s camp suspects fraud and wants the ballots impounded.
New York’s 9th Congressional special election race today for former Congressman Anthony Weiner’s seat just got more interesting.
Turner campaign manager E. O’Brien Murray told me Tuesday afternoon that their campaign is concerned the close race in New York’s 9th CD could very well be tainted by voter fraud from the David Weprin camp, and the Turner campaign does not want to be blind-sided.
“Last night we filed with one of the judges and then today we were attempting to serve Weprin. We served the board of elections last night to this morning. I’m not too sure of the timing of it,” said Murray.
Under New York State law a registered voter of the state must apply for a ballot in order to get an absentee ballot. According to the Turner camp, they suspect that someone over at the board of elections sent out absentee ballots to deceased people and to people who have not requested them.
“There’s been significant evidence of election fraud occurring. There have been in at least five occurrences of deceased individuals receiving absentee ballots which cannot happen legally,” said Turner campaign spokesman William O’Reilly. O’Reilly added, “Other people who have not applied for absentee ballots have received ballots, which is against the law in New York State. They haven’t even applied for them, but they received them.”
The Turner campaign wants the ballots impounded tonight after the polls close.
Update: Time of death for the age of Hope and Change, 11:58 pm eastern, Sept. 13, 2011. The AP calls it, Bob Turner WINS NY-9. GOP takes that seat for the first time in 90 years.

We know that Dems will cheat, registrars will find votes, miscount votes, and snuff votes. The Dem will slip through unless …..voters actually turn out to tell Bama , enough. It could happen. NV will be an easier race to call. I hope that this race will be commented upon by PJ Media.
One can only guess as to how long it will take the Obots to start whining that all those Brooklyn Orthodox Jews are “raaaaacissstttt!”
Robbins Mitchell – Spot-on.
Good prediction. It already happened. Along these lines, there is a fantasied “Jewish vote” that needs to be thrown away with other forms of bigotry. I wrote about this “Jewish vote” here: http://clarespark.com/2011/06/17/the-famed-jewish-vote/.
Here’s the AP’s results pages:
NY-9
NV-2
You’re welcome.
I should have started a blog months ago, and I would have posted this there…..
This really is a meaningless election. There was no reason for Weiner to step down. The GOP wasn’t asking him to resign, just the Democrats. The Democrats told him to resign or he would be redistricted out. Either way he would have been out of office, so what was the point?
What’s at stake here? The winner gets a 15 month appointment that will pay About $250,000 for the 15 months and Ted Kennedy level health care for life.
If Turner wins, it wouldn’t matter to him, As a Television producer, $250,000 is probably what he spends on shoe polish. But Weprin, oh ho.. he’s hit the big time. 15 months in Washington and he’s set for life, As a Democrat, that’s his birthright to sponge off the taxpayers his entire live, cos he’s o’ed it.
If Turner wins, you can guarantee that this district will be eliminated, as the Dems in Washington will be glad to kick a Republican out of the House, BUT When the new districts are drawn, Turner’s current residence would be located in a new redrawn district and he would be allowed to run for Congress in that district as an incumbent Republican Congressman running against an incumbent Democrat Congressman.
If NT-9 is split up between say 4 other surrounding districts, then the conservative-ish element that would elect Turner, would be split up among the other districts and may serve to dilute the Liberalness of the other districts and may even cause some of them to turn Red in 2012.
Okay, so we’ll just walk away and let the Obamacrats have the seat, right?
The problem with that is like I said, then Weprin, who doesn’t even live in the district, will then have a Congressional pension and healthcare for life, after serving only 15 months in the Congress. That’s exactly what he wants. For a career politician that is like winning the lottery. But why should we let that happen.
I think that this race has meaning on two levels- locally, it might not mean much but for those of us outside the area it doesn’t matter if NY-9 were to disappear from the electoral map tomorrow. What matters is what happens tonight- it is the shape of things to come. Which is why the national Dems have dumped at least $600,000 getting this “meaningless” race won.
The thing that it points out is the utter ineptness of the Democratic Party, especially the New York Democratic Party, and THAT could be a harbringer for 2012.
The pencil-necked geek (who will from now on be referred to as Rep. PNG) won this seat by 11 points just 10 months ago. The Democrats had this seat in their control, but not the House, through the end of 2012. But what did they do? They told Rep. PNG to take a hike. The GOP didn’t, the Dems did. The GOP had no qualms with Rep PNG being the face, or the groin, of the Democratic Party. When Rep PNG didn’t. they told him, either you leave willingly, or we will re-district you out. Either way you will go. So then PNG resigned and then we have this election for a district that will no longer exist in 15 months.
If Turner wins, then they have wasted the ousting of PNG and the loss of a seat, which they will assuredly redistrict out to get rid of Turner. So what has the New York Democrats gained. Nothing. Only they have cost the state a ton of money on having this special election. They would have the same result if PNG had served the end of the term and then been redistricted out. But by opening this up, they open up a can of worms where, if Turner keeps his lead, will be in a position to run as an incumbent against an incumbent Democrat.
The only meaning that can be gleaned from this whole thing is that is demonstrated how incompetent the Democratic Party is and how bankrupt the entire Democratic ideology is.
I think your very last point is the one that matters the most to those of us outside the district.
But lets say that NY-9 is solid red. So with a GOP in NY-9 the WrongOcrats in Albany will be in a panic to break that district up to get rid of Turner and then they break up the district among the surrounding districts like Poland was broken up in the 1700′s. Then you would have chunks of red in otherwise blue districts… this could create huge headaches for the Wrongs in next years Congressional races, further cementing their ineptness in trying to oust Rep PNG prematurely.
(Now it could just be teaching the WrongOcrats a lesson like conservatives said they were doing to the GOP in 2006 and 2008, because they think that Obama is not radically liberal enough.).
The pencil-necked geek (who will from now on be referred to as Rep. PNG)…
Of course, PNG is also diplomatic shorthand for persona non grata.
Nice little double entendre, there, guy.
And that ill-gotten $600,000 that the Dems pointlessly poured into Ward 9 is $600,000 they can’t use anywhere else. They spent it. May they misspend all their ill-gotten gains and pour them down every sewer from coast to coast.
That’s my hope. For plenty of change.
You’ve been drinking too much Democrat Kool-Aid. Look at what’s happening in Brooklyn.
“Dem Bums” have put him over the top.
This meaningless election means a lot whatever happens to that district: it is a bad omen for a Party when it begins to lose districts where for 90 years people would have elected Jack the Ripper provided he would have been the Democratic candidate
Wow. Just wow.
It’s not often I get to see someone so profoundly miss the point! =:O
why is it sooooo slow?
Zombies don’t move too fast.
The Democrats have to wait and see how many votes that have to make up……
They’ll have to get the vote from Greenwood Cemetary to win.
That is why the GOP always has to get votes in excess of the “margin of fraud” in order to win.
Vote fraud should be a hanging offense.
We’d lose a few Republicans that way.
And a lot of Democrats!
As of this moment, 11:46 PM EDT
there have already been 50,000 votes counted in the Nevada race, as opposed to less than 40,000 in the New York race, and Nevada is three time zones behind New York.
I guess when a Republican wins in a district that’s been Democrat since 1923 I think, the Democrats have trouble counting the ballots.
As a strategy, I always vote as late as possible. This makes it harder for people who want to commit vote fraud to get their numbers right.
Great idea! I might try that next time.
Think “vote early and often” trumps your plan.
Look at the vote totals from Brooklyn; they;re truly astounding. With about 1/2 the precints in, Turner is winning a lopsided-battle there (69 to 31). In Queens, Wepring is eeking a victory over Turner, but the Brooklyn totals are going to be enough to put Turner over the top. (That is probably the AP’s reasoning.)
My gut feeling was Turner would have a better showing in Queens than in Brooklyn. Already AP have labeled Turner the winner..
Thanks for the AP links. How interesting.
I just checked the NY Times online not out of devotion to its brilliant reporters and fab news judgement, but just on the theory that they are the local paper. What was on Page One about Ward Nine in NYC? Zilch.
This led to my saying to my huisband, “Turner must have won because the NYT is pretending that there was no special election in Ward 9.” What a newspaper of doofuses. All the news they choose to fit, lest their readers get an actual dose of reality.
Welcome to Washington, Congressman Turner. Mazel tov.
Don’t forget Amodei. AP has already checked him as the winner.
Gloria Tucci – That should be: All the fiction that fits our views, that’s what we print as news.
This “meaningless” race is the canary in the coal-mine. November 2012 is gonna be truly brutal. Dem money just does not seem to matter, as long as the Pub candidate is solid. Turner ran before. He was not a complete rookie. He had the advantage and used it to win. Remember, solid candidates, please?
It’s pretty pathetic when the BBC has this on its front page, but it’s nowhere to be found on CNN. I wonder if we could get the Voice of America to broadcast from Mexico or Canada?
Incredible! I just went to CNN’s main page and there’s not even a MENTION of the election – which ended hours ago! What are they up to?
They are always up to no good! Have you seen the new “report your fellow citizens” page for the Obama campaign? Drudge posted it last night and by this morning it had already changed to look a little less appalling.
http://my.barackobama.com/page/signup/o2012-attackwatch-report-an-attack
Wow! I just clicked on it. Thanks.
I selected the “Rumor” category and reported a story from Gawker that Obama has Low-T. (Funny note: after you click Report, you’re taken to a donation page.)
After I got off the Donation page, I went back and sent another Report about guns being walked to drug cartels, leading to the death of an American federal agent.
Yeah, the damn site is appalling, but I intend to help destroy it the same way we did that e-mail program for reporting “anything fishy” to — who was it, DHS? Heh, they got all my google alerts on the word “fish,” via Autoforward.
As a Volunteer who has been there since the day Bob announced he was running, these 9 weeks of hard work, thousands of calls and handing out thousands of palm-cards, our efforts paid off. The Party was rocking when we heard we won tonight at the victory celebration
Our Brooklyn Tea Party cam guy http://www.youtube.com/user/MikeFerrara66 should have soon all the Vids from the party when we won (i’m in it!!!)
Fiscal conservatism won today as Turner ran on slashing spending by 35% over 10 years.
Oh and despite 88% reporting and turner up by 8, the democrat, Weprin, still refuses to concede
GOD BLESS MY NY-9 HOME DISTRICT
Congrats, Dave! And thanks for your hard work in helping Mr. Turner get elected…. it’s a beautiful thing!
Dave – I’ll second Layne S’s sentiments; and give Cong.-elect Turner a very hearty mazel-tov for me! It is a very sweet victory. Maybe the scales have fallen off the eyes of some of my co-religionists.
yes. God bless NY-9 your home. Congrats for standing up and geting it done dave.
“Meet the new Boss, same as the old boss”
Pete Townsend, 1971
American voters fool themselves, every 4 years. The Nation becomes progressively worse, the financial situation becomes precariously dangerous, the US dollar has collapsed in a straight line since president Nixon placed it on par with Saudi Petroleum reserves.
It is a tragedy to watch the Republic of the United States treat itself in such a disgusting manner, enabling its leadership to eviscerate the economy, add deficits upon deficits, and have US taxpayer burdened with the cost.
Welcome to the revolution, your paying for it.
Time of death…now that’s effin’ funny!
The first major shot across Obama’s bow for the 2012 election. If the Republicans can pick a good candidate, Obama will lose big time in 2012. Can anyone say, “Jimmy Carter?”
If Turner lost, it was a referendum on Obama’s policies. He didn’t, so it’s not.
Nothing to see here, move along.
If dems start losing elections big time, they have lost control of the narrative and ignoring the outcomes won’t help them regain control.
From now until Nov 2012, all that needs to be said to socialists predicting an Obama win is “New York 9″.
This was an ANTI OBAMA poll. For whom the bell tolls.
A disaster called Obama
Great promise turns into catastrophe as Obama leads world into abyss; can we have Bush back?
Barack Obama is solidifying his status as the worst president in American history. The leader who promised us a bright future of peace and fraternity is leading the American empire – and the rest of the world with it – into a dark abyss. Ever since he settled into the Oval Office, Obama has been hopping from one disaster to the next, making every possible mistake, boosting enemies and disregarding allies while ruining everything he touches in the process. To our regret, the heaviest price – for the time being at least – is being paid by residents of the Middle East.
When the masses hit Iran’s street and threatened to topple the Ayatollah regime, Obama was silent. Why should he support a struggle waged by freedom-hungry citizens against a radical Islamic dictatorship and chronic human rights violator? And so, a rare opportunity to change the face of a state that today constitutes the gravest threat to world and regional peace slipped away.
Instead of supporting the brave Iranian protestors, Obama chose to nurture his relationship with a new buddy, Bashar Assad, while portraying him as a US ally. When the same Assad started to heartily butcher his own people, while ignoring his “American friends,” Obama again chose silence, until finally breaking it with meaningless, vain declarations. For the time being Obama keeps muttering, Assad keeps murdering, and the world keeps watching and doing nothing.
So when did Obama act? Mubarak! The Egyptian ruler, possibly the wisest, most moderate Mideastern leader safeguarded the peace treaty with Israel, hunted down Islamic radicals, counter-balanced the Shiite Iran, steadfastly maintained his ties with the US and turned our crazed region into a slightly saner place. He was no angel, certainly not towards his own people, but was or is there a better realistic option?
Yet there of all places, Obama the brilliant diplomat opted to intervene aggressively, openly humiliated Mubarak and ultimately presented him with an explicit threat while the latter was struggling to maintain his rule. When the president’s “security experts” declared that the Muslim Brotherhood is a “moderate movement” and admitted they need more time to ascertain its attitude to Israel, we knew we were in for trouble.
Within a few months, Egypt has turned into a state controlled by a military junta, radical Islam reared its head and the Sinai Peninsula turned into a no-man’s land contending for the title of “most dangerous region in the world.” Last week, the “border of peace” was rattled by the largest terror offensive in its history, not only killing eight Israelis but also producing a deep crisis vis-à-vis Egypt. Thank you for that one, too, Obama.
The Libya fiasco
A sure sign that Obama has become irrelevant and is no longer taken seriously by anyone is the tendency of other world leaders to listen to him – and then do the exact opposite. Despite his pleas, the rulers of Riyadh and Manama chose to ignore his demands for restraint and brutally repressed the protests against them. Apparently this spared us the dubious pleasure of watching the establishment of yet another Islamic Shiite state, this time in Bahrain.
Obama decided to intervene in Libya as well, likely after his advisors enlightened him on the importance of the vast desert nation’s oil reserves. However, instead of acting decisively and exhibiting America’s power, Obama again chose to mutter and fidget; when a military operation against Gaddafi was finally approved, the hedid everything in his power to ensure the US does not take a lead role in the effort.
And so, the once-intimidating NATO alliance found itself entangled above Libya’s deserts for long months in a “battle of giants” against a state whose army is sometimes reminiscent of a Jenin street gang from a decade ago. Indeed, Obama managed to erode the strategic-deterrent NATO asset as well. Now, with Gaddafi’s rule finally drawing to an end, the president kindly took time off from his vacation to festively declare that the future is in the Libyan people’s hands – while local tribes are preparing for the imminent bloodshed and al-Qaeda is reinforcing its hold on the country.
In the process, Obama also managed to quarrel with his closest regional ally, Israel, while utterly failing in his efforts to restore Jerusalem’s ties with yet another (former?) ally, Turkey. And we haven’t even mentioned the economy yet, where Obama appears poised to lead his country into what appears to be a devastating recession. Only recently he won the dubious honor of being the first president to see America’s credit rating lowered while in office.
Longing for Bush
The ongoing disaster called Obama may prompt some of us to apologize to another American president, one George W. Bush. What hasn’t been said about Barack Hussein’s predecessor? He was called stupid, incoherent and naïve; he was said to understand nothing and know nothing – yet now it turns out that the cowboy from Texas had a much better grasp on reality than his many critics. Even if his motives were at times as naïve as Obama’s, the former president combined them with an iron fist, immense determination and admirable loyalty to his allies.
Bush’s offensive in Afghanistan toppled the Taliban regime, thereby depriving al-Qaeda of its most important base. Iraq may have not been the ideal target for the next assault, yet Saddam Hussein was undoubtedly among the world’s cruelest dictators and his ouster was a supremely moral act. The president’s ability to execute a powerful military operation and take over Iraq with relative ease conveyed an incisive message to all regional leaders. The bad guys were shaking in their boots, Gaddafi volunteered to dismantle his nuclear program, Iran was cautious, and even Assad kept quiet.
Bush also shunned the terrorist Arafat, approved the razing of the Syrian reactor, granted unqualified support to Lebanese moderates and developed close relations with his allies throughout his term in office. Moreover, his “naïve” insistence on bringing democracy to the Arab world and his faith in the peoples of the region paved the way for the revolutions we are now witnessing. We can assume that had he still been in power, the fascinating process underway around us would have been managed in a wiser, more effective manner.
Yet Bush is already a distant dream, while Obama is a living and breathing nightmare. Now all that’s left is to wait and see whether America’s citizens will be able to remove him from the White House before he destroys everything.
“Time of death for the age of Hope and Change, 11:58 pm eastern, Sept. 13, 2011.”
The right just loves to declare, Mission Accomplished!
We’ll declare it again, the day after Election Day 2012.
Three times’ a charm.
Joseph is right.
This kind of thing is childish and unwise.
I’m one of those old fossils that insists on using old words properly. And “bellweather” is just plain wrong. It’s “bellwether”.
As dear old wikipedia explains, “The term is derived from the Middle English bellewether and refers to the practice of placing a bell around the neck of a castrated ram (a wether) leading his flock of sheep. The movements of the flock could be noted by hearing the bell before the flock was in sight.”
Nowadays, it’s “… any entity in a given arena that serves to create or influence trends or to presage future happenings.” It stays the same old spelling.
I suppose, with political correctness and the SEC, most of our prognosticators deserve the old spelling.
You gotta believe that adult democrats (if there are any left) are concerned about next year and are beginning to examine their alternatives. The socialist/marxists want Obama to accelerate the destruction of our country and the US middle-class. But, the simple lefties, those owned by the unions and the crooks must recognize that the current path leads only to disaster for them and their party. At this point, they have two choices: to lose and to lose bad.
It’s about time Jews got a clue about what Obama is doing to them.
It’s spelled “bellwether,” for f!$%’s sake.
