IMAO blogger and frequent PJ contributor Frank J. Fleming hits the NY Post today. Read the whole thing:
In science, when testing things on people, you always use a control group. If you have a drug you think will cut cholesterol, you give it to one set of test subjects. If everyone in the group that took the drug turns purple and starts choking but the control group is fine, we scientifically conclude there’s a problem with the drug.
We have an economy that’s turning purple and choking. Did the stimulus cause that? If we had a control group that looked fine, we’d know.
So what we need to do is isolate part of the country to be the control group. They’ll be free from new taxes, won’t take part in government programs and regulations and can have all the guns they want. In the rest of America, politicians can go crazy with every Keynesian idea, ban trans fats and salt and just generally control everything. Then we can compare the results of the two groups and finally have a scientific answer on what works.

we already have a control group. it’s called Texas.
btw, if it wasn’t for the flourishing economy there,
national unemployment would be above 10%. even the
sanitized official statistic.
it’s the government stupid !
they are the problem. throw the bums out.
start over. term limits and adherence to the constitution ..or prison.
Didn’t we already go through all that with Communism? Do we really have to repeat that experiment?
Always a fan of Frank J…nuke the moon!
The many EU nations form such an non-ideological experimental laboratory.
The bottom line: Swiss-style healthcare have proven to work best.
Swiss systems are close to Hilary-care and Romney-care, as originally conceived.
Obama-care is evolving rapidly into a Swiss-style system. Good.
Enterprises proven by experience always beat ideology-first enterprises.

…and where was your physics PhD from again?
I knew a fellow that claimed to be a physicist. As it turned out he was a Fed bureaucrat who did not have a subscription to one meager science magazine coming to his home….is that you Steve? But he did have a healthcare plan that most of the plebians would die for. His retirement plan was better than any doctor or other professional. Hummmmmm
Those brands of conservatism that offer neither facts or reasoning, but rather offers solely smears and slogans, are destined to swiftly perish … and deserve this fate.
Candide and Robert, posts like yours serve to accelerate that deserved extinction … and that is why my joy in reading your posts is even greater than your joy in writing them.
I’m amazed you still claim to be a conservative Johnny, I mean, first you complain about ideology first conservatives as if A. ideology wasn’t important B. Conservatism is an ideology, and C. completely ignoring the far more egregious examples on the other side — which would be your side John as you admitted here: http://pajamasmedia.com/tatler/comment/105549/.
Sir, you need help, you’re a troll, I realize you don’t want to admit that, but let’s look at the facts here. Aside from your over-long arms, green knobby skin and aversion to light, there’s the fact that you quote the Onion and extreme lefty rag Der Speigel as authoritative. Then the fact that you believe your PhD qualifies you as an expert on, well, everything.
No one takes you seriously John. They laugh at you when you’re not causing them to have to duct tape their heads back together.
Why don’t we simply compare California, Illinois to say Texas and Indiana?
Democratic strongholds of similar size to Republican run states? I mean where the Republicans aren’t controlled by Democrats.
Where there is a clear bright line that shows in obvious ways how a Democratic state operates its fiscal house and then compare and contrast.
California is broke. Busted. Tapped out. People and businesses are leaving in droves….for Texas.
We don’t need to run any additional tests or wait for any additional conclusions. California has turned blue…all the blue states are blue for a reason. Lack of oxygen.
All the red states have rosy cheeks and a rosy future…IF…we can get 535 nitwits to pretty much leave them alone.
Let’s put this plainly and simply. The Protest Culture couldn’t run a hot dog pushcart or balance a checkbook. They suck at economics. They suck at making budgets. They suck at job creation. They suck at managing business. They suck at global diplomacy. They suck at international negotiations. They suck at foreign trade. They suck at military strategy. They suck at homeland protection. They suck at pension planning. They suck at negotiating with unions. They suck at space exploration. They suck at rigorous scientific proofing. They suck at objective journalism. They suck at preserving color blind voting rights. They suck at preserving color blind civil rights. They suck at protecting the borders. Basically, they suck at capitalism and they don’t particularly like it.
They are good at giving away things they don’t own. They are good at dividing people by race, class and creed. They are good at stirring up fights between the genders and gender orientations. They are great at propaganda and distortion. The suck at ever apologizing for something they did, but will apologize for something you did…whether you did it or not…at the drop of a hat. They are experts at blameshifting. They are masterful at weasel words.
They love Socialism, admire communism…their posters are of Che, Mao, and Fidel. They will not say the word terrorist…unless they are talking about the Tea Party.
They will not say the word Muslim after an attack, unless it is used in the phrase with outreach.
They run guns with drug cartels, but oppose them for everyone else.
If you haven’t turned purple by now…you need another pill. Or last rights.
Very well written. I’m going to get off the couch now to go put on a hat, and tip it to you.
There’s a group of people trying to establish that experiment in earnest in New Hampshire… Called the Free State Project: http://freestateproject.org/
Texas is working on being one of the free places in the world, but New Hampshire is actually doing it: http://mercatus.org/freedom-50-states-2011
To be fair, Texas is doing a damn fine job of it.
Oddly, compared to the US, Canada fits that description. As far as that goes, unemployment in Mexico is around 5%. What’s wrong with this picture?
That’s only because they exported all their unskilled, uneducated, unemployed workers to us.
And I mean actively exported them, too, with manuals on how to get across the border and how to avoid the immigration authorities. That was back in the day when the immigration authorities were doing their jobs.
