Well, I’ll give her points for creativity because I certainly didn’t see this particular argument coming.
This is my theory. What more do they want? They have…homes, bigger the yacht, da da da da, the taller the mast, the whole thing. They have museum quality art. And I decided, if in fact they are advocating for this, which I’m not sure they are, I think the Republicans just like to…have that position. They want immortality. They want so much money that their names are all over…(incomprehensible) for prestige they could never get any other way, they could buy with endless money.
She may have a point that’s worth twisting back around on her here. For politicians like Pelosi, political power is often a means to immortality. They push bills that they put their names on or strongly identify with as a means to get themselves written into history books and, if they’re really good at it, get big buildings named after themselves. Maybe even a statue somewhere. There’s a reason you can’t throw a stick in West Virginia without hitting something named after Robert C. Byrd. They look at Abe Lincoln and Tom Jefferson’s memorials and think to themselves, “That should be me.” You hear it in the way Obama keeps bringing Lincoln up all the time. They desperately want to see their names carved in marble or up on Mt. Rushmore.
They treat legislation like Pelosi claims the rich treat their money. All during ObamaCare’s struggles we heard how the Democrats have sought to pass a big health care bill for years, since Truman. It was their white whale. Pelosi, Obama, Reid, all of them treated that bill as their legacy, capping a decades-long drive on an issue that has animated Democrats for decades. Yet when it came to the actual details, most Democrats including the president didn’t even bother to read the bill. When Joe Biden colorfully described the bill as a “big f-n deal,” he was addressing the decades in which Democrats sought and failed to pass such a bill, not the substance within the bill. The legacy stuff was more important to all of them than the actual policy.
As for Pelosi’s slam on the rich itself, well, coming from one of the political class’ wealthiest members, it’s more than a bit rich. Her wealth has grown a staggering 62% despite the great recession — how? And who is she to lecture anyone else on the disposition of their assets? I suspect that some rich folks certainly want their name to adorn buildings at their alma maters and whatnot, but I suspect even more just want to keep what they earn to do with as they see fit, because it’s their property and doesn’t belong to the “federal family.” That Pelosi has a problem with that, is a problem for all of us.

They want so much money that their names are all over
Half of West Virginia is named after celebrated Democrat (and Kleagle, but I may be repeating myself) Robert Byrd. Oh, wait, he spent other people’s money on that…
Then in Bremerton, WA, we have the Norm Dicks building. Like the federal government should be honoring Dicks.
More to the point, they claimed that the country owed it to Teddy Kennedy, for his legacy. Remember all that hoo-ha? Teddy’s legacy will always be an Oldsmobile.

“Why the Future, Mr. Gittes. The Future.”
In the meanwhile, one very wealthy person named Pelosi is trying to achieve immortality through Botox.
Or is that immorality through her constituents?
lol Embalming.
Rich Oppose Tax Hikes Because They Want to be ‘Immortal’
Democrats support tax hikes because in the end, there can be only one.. .and they really enjoy cutting off people’s heads.
Yeah, I’ve been watching Highlander on Netflix. Sue me.
But most of the really rich are Democrats. And they don’t seem to be opposed to tax hikes. The only ones that are opposed to tax hikes are us less than rich people who can’t afford high-priced tax lawyers like Nancy Pelosi can.
BTW, speaking of yachts Nancy, wasn’t it your pal John Kerry who docked his multi-million dollar yacht in Rhode Island in order to dodge a few grand worth of taxes on it in Massachusetts? Kerry is already a multi-multi-millionaire; what more does that SOB want, eh Nancy?
I’m sure she meant what she said. She’s spent an awful lot of money getting her face stitched up, presumably in pursuit of (at least the illusion of) youth.
She’s just telling us what she wants. Pelosi wants to be immortal. After all she is one of these rich elites. Her husband is so rich that it does not matter how much they pay in taxes. What a hypocrite.
No doubt you’ve heard Al Gore’s claims that Global Warming skeptics are in it for the money.
Democrats: Masters of Projection.
For someone with disdain for the rich, it is amusing that she took full advantage of her chance use the luxury Gulfstreams the USAF owns.
The whole Democrat strategy of denouncing the rich and accusing the Republicans of being for the rich has to be the best implementation of the Big Lie in history.
There really needs to be a Goebbels Trophy given out to the best liars in government. For sure, many members of the current Democrat leadership would be worthy of it.
There’s a famous quote: “it’s nice to be nice to the nice.” for some reason all of this elbow rubbing, slap-on-the back Democ bashing reminds me of that. It’s not about parties, people! or pelosi or botox (grow up…her glasses are dorky…he he he)! It’s about common sense. Do YOU think it’s ok that the rich are getting tax breaks? During this economic breakdown, that resulted under W.’s tenure, is it truly right for the rich to seek out loopholes? Guess it would be ridiculous for our people to unite and put an end to government corruption! F-k Dem’s. F-k Rep’s. Wow. People’s pride will kill our nation.
I agree that it is ridiculous and immoral for the rich to seek immortality. The foundations they set up for that purpose — like the Ford, Rockefeller, Gates, and Oprah Winfrey Foundations — must be stripped of their tax-exempt status, and their assets used to reduce the deficit instead of supporting their staffs in luxury and in funding trendy theftist causes.
I didn’t realize people still spoke psycho-babble. A blast from the past. But then, she is from that time-warped Bay Area…..
When I think of “immortal” I think of the lae Senator Robert Byrd. Three quarters of the public buildings in West Virginia are named for him and wll were built ont he public dime. He gets to be immortal without ever having had to invest a cent.
Also – What’s the suddenly saintly Warren Buffet aiming at with his multi-billion dollar (and largely tax exempt) foundation that will carry his name long into the future after he done trading futures? Nancy Pelosi must still think that all rich people look like the little guy from the Monopoly set and act like Cornelius Vanderbilt.
