When the Transportation Security Administration was created in the wake of 9-11, Americans were assured by our elected masters that it would not unionize. That assurance lasted until we got a president who vowed to take on Big Labor’s agenda as his own, and in February of this year, the TSA cleared the way for its screeners to unionize. Allowing screeners to become creatures of Big Labor does nothing to enhance our airport security, but that’s of secondary concern to a movement that is dying a slow death.
The Tatler’s eyes are everywhere. Today, we spotted the American Federation of Government Employees at Dulles International outside DC, organizing inside the airport. Here’s the photo.

I like a suggestion I heard for airport security. Let airlines handle their own security. One approach might be to have passengers select 3 people to be checked thoroughly.
Steve, you mean like the airlines were doing on 9/11 when they were responsible for airport security and allowed the terrorists to board flights armed with box cutters? Those who fail to study history are doomed to repeat it.
And random checks of three people is an even worse idea. All the terrorists would have to do is get five or so in their group to book the same flight and then all carry weapons/bombs on board. At the very least, two of them would get through onto the flight. Statistically, four or five likely make it through security.
I think you are taking my suggestion too literally (3). Was airport security was handled by the airlines on 9/11? I remember having to go through security then. Do you think TSA is doing a good job? To me it is just for show. They also treat everyone like a criminal. If you want to define how not to do security, TSA seems to be it.
Oh c’mon be fair! The TSA has stopped many terrorist attacks, I know they have. They must have, right? I mean we havent heard about any, but surely…… Yeah I know passengers have stopped a few, but those are only the ones the TSA didnt catch. I mean its not that they didnt catch them…wait….uh…..the passengers caught them before the TSA could…on the airplane…in mid-flight, or something.
Chad, on the morning of 9/11, carrying box cutters was legal. No one, airline or otherwise, would have stopped you.
