Yeah, that’s our ally Iraq. It’s not a secret, both sides–the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and the Kurds targeted by the Iranians–confirm heavy fighting. Although there’s quite a difference between the claims: the Guards have declared victory and say they’ve taken over Kurdish “camps.” The PJAK spokesperson says the score so far is 53 Iranian dead and 2 Kurds.
I once said that it’s a fixed principle of American foreign policy to betray the Kurds at least once every ten years or so. Well?
Meanwhile, the secretary of state is busy giving moralistic lessons to the Turks (!) on religious toleration. Is her next stop in Armenia? Or will it be Kurdistan?

The Peshmerga, thought to be one of the best military units in the Middle East,
is on the Iraq side of the border.
“The Kurdish ministry of Peshmerga (the military force operated by Kurdistan Regional Government, or the KRG) accused Iran for seeking to export its crises to the Kurdish province. The statement came in the wake of allegations by a senior Iranian military official that Massoud Barzani, the president of the KRG “has betrayed the Iraqi and Iranian peoples” by allocating a large swath of land to be used by the Iranian Kurdish opposition PJAK (Party of Free Life) and that Iran reserves the right to take military action inside the Kurdish province. Iran has been shelling Kurdish villages close to the Iranian border since 2007.”
