It appears that many of us – myself very much included – may have rushed to judgement in the rape charges against now former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn. If reports first surfaced by the New York Times are in any way correct, this is clearly not a simple rape. Whatever it is, I blew it by assuming too much in my reaction to the allegations. I hope I’ve learned a journalistic lesson.

I wouldn’t start beating your breast and investing in sackcloth and ash futures too much….it is, after all, the New York Times — the premier propaganda mouthpiece for the international crowd of “our betters”.
And isn’t character assassination SOP for “bimbo eruptions”?
Your post is the post of a mensch.
I still don’t think DSK is a model of prudent judgment or an example of upstanding citizenship, either here or in France, but your comments show your integrity, humanity and humility.
“Permit me to introduce myself: I am Strauss-Kahn, your lover.”
We don’t know much and that’s why we have courts of law that make decisions based on the preponderance of evidence. Just because the accuser is not a nun doesn’t necessarily maks Strauss-Kahn a choirboy. We shouldn’t be too surprised that a hotel housekeeper in NYC has immigration issues or dabbles in illegal commerce. Also, don’t forget SK was making a run for it. Would he have done so if he were a complete innocent? There is a whiff of a Clintonian “that woman” smear here.
The head of the IMF had sex with a housemaid in a NYC hotel, consensual or not, tried to run when it was discovered, and the revelation that she has shady connections is supposed to cleanse his reputation and make him a candidate for the Presidency of France?
The Ruling Class whitewash has begun! In this case, the Emporer really had no clothes!!
Strauss-Kahn could in fairness if brought to court, plead, whatever the findings it wasn’t his fault. He was in the USA and simply as in when in Rome… emulating the role models of the highest officers in the land, the pre-eminent Law officer / “President” and the Senate/Congress. Clinton, specifically, known by people who Really count, as the “pillar” of the “Democratic Party”. Those who now carry on their shoulders for the praise of the proles the current “President” icon- or is that tsar, to praise and adore in their multitude.
It ain’t sex is it, and boys will be boys. It’s POWER and being hot shot – Potentate – in the rulerships in the “Lives of Others”. POWER means above all things that the powerful ARE above all things. Do not, do not have to comply with Laws OR moral constraints that limit “commoners”/the little peoples’, expression of their impulses.
Small minds, the “little people” may consider this aberration in that Land which by foundation ethos each citizen is EQUAL in dignity AND Law. Odd that of all others,in their exclusive “gentlemens” clubs, Lawyers and intelligentsia find ways to show this ain’t so.
I am sure it is all her own fault. Nothing to see here.
He admitted to consensual sex with a woman he probably wouldn’t even greet in public. His arrogance got him into this. And he can thank Roman Polanski for the prosecuters’ mistrust of the French justice system and its willingness to cooperate in an investigation.
Not sure what the point of this article is. She lied about her immigration status, and perhaps lied about her experience in Africa to get into the country, so she must have lied about DSK too? That’s similar to arguing that since Mark Fuhrman didn’t tell the truth about the last time he’d said the N-word, O.J. must be not guilty. If the guy’s so innocent, why’d he flee the hotel room, leaving all his belongings behind, and why’d she run and complain?
It wouldn’t surprise me to find out that this leak, unattributed source whatever, is either a plant by someone in DSK’s camp, or alternatively someone from the State Department putting pressure on the local DA to protect a foreign dignitary. After all, most of France thinks this is some sort of conspiracy…that settles it, right?
Thank you Mr. Rogers! Your and whole American position against the innocence presumption pained me.
Of all the words that could be chosen to describe DSK’s actions in this sordid mess, “innocent” is not one that I would choose. Whether or not he is guilty of rape, he is most certainly not “innocent”!
Maybe when he gets back to France, he can hang with Roman Polanski, and maybe they can score some underage French chicks to rebuild his self-esteem.
I thought he left his phone and money in the hotel room along with everything else, and had to be taken from a plane by law enforcement. I guess he was rushing to lunch in Paris or something. This article is a prepaid hit job against the victim and is painfully and stupidly transparent. But, I guess a creepy leftard running as socialist candidate for prez in France needs his freedom, so…
She lied about various aspects of her immigration. We have millions of illegal aliens that democrats want to make legal. How many of them have lied about their status? Probably all of them. Meg Whitman’s assistant, Nicki Diaz committed multiple felonies and she was never deported. Anyway that is all besides the point. Her dishonesty and potential involvement with drug dealers show she is not a trustworthy person, but all of this had nothing to do with the crime in question. Is there evidence she lied about what happened in the hotel room?
I could see if she lied about knowing Strauss-Kahn. Maybe they went out to dinner first then back to the hotel room where she supposedly said “no” and Strauss-Kahn forced himself on top of her. Then I would think she possibly tried to set him up for blackmail.
I’m not 100% convinced either way, but I’m not ready to say her story is a fabrication. The charges may be dropped anyway because of her unrelated legal problems.
Whether DSK acted as alleged in the NYC hotel room is now irrelevant. He has resigned as chairman of the IMF and Mme. Lagarde is set to take over. Only now has it been publicized that she once was a partner in charge of running one of the USA’s largest law firms which just happened to be conveniently located in Chicago. Just a coincidence, I’m sure.
Roger – Did you ever consider the possibility that someone set him up either to get him out of the IMF or to prevent him from running for President of France?
It’s quite possible they’re both guilty — she of different crimes that make her a liability on the witness stand and thus destroy the case against him.
But given DSK’s history, it would seem that he was very lucky in his choice of conquests this time, even though it may have destroyed his career and cost him a lot of money.
Rushing to judgment in blog posts is no crime, not even misdemeanor.
Of course one should admit the mistake (if indeed it was a mistake, which remains to be established in this case).
Also, if you rushed to judgment, what about DSK’s defenders? even if they are proven right, the fact remains that they rushed to defend one of the most powerful men in the world, and you rushed to defend a chambermaid from what looked like an abuse of power. (The fact that some of them claimed American justice to be “unfair” when a top banker is arrested for alleged assault of a chambermaid, brought a welcome comic relief.)
But DSK’s defenders have a point if they say that one should be careful before bringing somebody like DSK into disrepute. Mikhail Khodorkovsky would surely agree.
Look at the bright side: should DSK go all the way to the Elisee (pardon my French), he’d probably be less of a socialist than Sarkozy, or any of the other contenders.
Sorry, that should be Élysée.
Curious that the alleged victim is from Guinea which is a former French colony and people are reportedly putting enormous sums of money in her bank account.
Could very well have been a set up. I think we’ll hear more about this story.
It also could have been a disagreement on payment or behaviour on an agreed act. It seems unlikely a man would suddenly throw everything out the window on a straight out rape.
Also, didn’t I read his flight was his normal flight and that he was not fleeing? I may be mistaken.
