Ruth Ginsburg:Global Warming Sceptic

As Watts Up With That ? notes, Judge Ginsburg in the  (8-0)opinion she wrote in American Electric Power v. Connecticut

reveals she is a global warming sceptic :

The court decision noted that the Environmental Protection Agency itself had “Acknowledg[ed] that not all scientists agreed on the causes and consequences of the rise in global temperatures,” before suggesting readers consult “views opposing” the conventional wisdom. Specifically, the justices’ recommended reading was a superb profile of Princeton’s Freeman Dyson, perhaps America’s most respected scientist, written in the New York Times Magazine, March 29, 2009.

Freeman, an unabashed skeptic, believes that carbon dioxide, rather than being harmful, is both necessary and desirable, arguing that “increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth.”

Somewhat in the same vein, Justice Ginsburg notes carbon dioxide is necessary and ubiquitous, and thus shouldn’t be the target of indiscriminate attacks. “After all, we each emit carbon dioxide merely by breathing,” she notes, repeating a point that Dyson couldn’t have said better himself.

She might have noted also that the global warming alarmist argument has all the earmarks of a scam.

    1. Time is running out, there is a sense of urgency.
    2. You must take action quickly
    3. Action amounts to paying money or putting yourself in a disadvantageous position.
    4. If the pitch-man gets caught lying he will create a distraction and pretend the lie never happened.

Well, sounds like Dyson and Ginsberg should be tatooed “AGW Denier” or forced to live on low lying islands or stand on melting ice cubes with nooses around their necks. Not my opinion but some ideas recently proposed by the “scientists” who are so certain any questioning of their precious pseudo-religion is so dangerous it must be suppressed as violently as possible… for the good of humanity. Because it’s peer reviewed!

“After all, we each emit carbon dioxide merely by breathing”

Proving that CO2 is harmful, at least when generated by liberals.

  5. 5. dadfly

i’m praying for her. even at this late date, she may be waking up. she may be coming to the light.

  6. Wait for both Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Freeman Dyson to be declared “science deniers” and “climate deniers” on the Walmart Version of Daily Kos (formerly a credible national security blog). If you even can get arsed to look at it anymore.

  7. Strange as this may seem to those unfamiliar with academia, some of the (few) lifelong Republicans there I know have bought the CAGW (catastrophic anthropogenic global warming) story hook, line, and sinker, while some scientists who are generally liberal but for whom climate research isn’t their meal ticket don’t buy the CAGW story, even though almost all will allow for some man-made component in climate change.

And this is aside from those who do believe in strong AGW (not necessarily CAGW) but rightly argue that greater climate benefits could be reaped by making the same investments elsewhere (the case laid out in Bjoern Lomborg’s “Cool it”).

If the politicians pushing this want me to take it seriously…they first must get rid of their mansions and private jets. Once I see them walking the walk, I may start listening to their talk.

      BINGO…+1

I am so sick of these hypocrites.

What this about is increasing their wealth at the expense of the diminishing middle class and creating a perminent serfdom.

  9. 9. Tblakely

AGW is just a modern update of ‘man the sinner’ seeking redemption.

    • Mike

Yes sir it does. I don’t know why but us humans sure like to feel guilty about… everything, so it’s pretty clever to make your postulations into TRUTH and the believers into apostles. It works!

Take something you cant see but you can see it’s effect. Like with god, (or the weather) We are told there is a god. He wants you to “be good.” Well, your not “good” and you know it. Worse, god knows it to so you better be sorry or gods gonna get you. Out of guilt you do things to get back into the good grace of your god. Substitute weather for god and it still works.

Wanna be burned at the stake? Deny god.
Wanna be flushed down the academical toilet? Just whisper that correlated data shows temperatures in our entire solar system are absolutely connected to sun spot activity.

The court voted to let the EPA do is job- which it should.

    • Jeff Slentz

And what is the EPA’s job? To regulate instead of legislate. Same bad results. Different road to get there.

      • DonM

One rat may be acceptable if it keeps the others out. Though no rats are better, this determination of the court adheres to the one rat theory.

At least the EPA in this case prevents all the “Righthaven”s of the world from coming up with a new business model.

Thank goodness. A Supreme Court Justice that actually remembers 6th grade science.

  13. 13. Todd Henderson

The fact that it is in an opinion written by RBG doesn’t mean she thinks this. It may have been a necessary footnote to get another justice(s) to sign off on the main opinion. Assuming she wanted the vote of this person(s), we cannot attribute anything about this text to her.

Oddly, when I searched the opinion referred to above, I found no such quote. Perhaps I performed the search ineffectively. Nonetheless, no such quote exists.

Is it somewhere else, did I simply miss it, or is it a hoax?

  16. 16. Plutocrony

Will somebody email this to Ron Reagan. Is that his name? You know that liberal running faucet who, just last week, while sitting in for “Mr. Tingles” worked super, duper diligently to prove that their is zero, zilch, none ,nada, credible evidence against the AGW holy grail. Basically, he smirked his way through his segment of ridiculing any and all morons who would dispute this indisputable truth. Seriously. Can someone send this ignorant sinkhole this post? I don’t know how to locate his email.

I’m so sick of the whole AGW thing. Guess what. Change all the frickkin’ light bulbs in your house, walk to work or whatever, that’s not gonna “SAVE THE EARTH” if this really is happening. It’s a drop in the proverbial ocean. Raising electricity rates isn’t gonna save the earth either, especially with China and India coming on strong. Just starve us all of money and make us sit in the dark.

Stop asking me to dial my life down to a 3rd worlder. Just build me some damn nuke plants and let me turn on all the light bulbs I want. For crying out loud, we know how to do this already, and it isn’t on the blades of a stupid windmill.
