As speculation about a possible run for president by Texas Gov. Rick Perry increases, it’s worth a look back at remarks he gave to a house party back in 2007. At the time, Perry was supporting former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s run, which flamed out because Giuliani had pursued a, shall we say, flawed strategy. In this clip, Perry makes one thing very clear: He is not the second coming of George W. Bush. He says Bush was “never ever a fiscal conservative,” and assails Bush’s spending policies as governor of Texas.
Perry was lieutenant governor when Bush was governor, but the offices are independently elected. There has long been some tension between the Perry and Bush wings of the Texas GOP, with Bush’s being the more moderate wing. Many in the Bush wing backed Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison’s primary run against Perry last year.
Bottom line: Would President Rick Perry be a rehash of President George W. Bush? No. Just ask Rick Perry.

As a matter of record, several conservatives shouted from the rooftops about GW and were summarily dismissed. Joe Farah was one I remember and he took a lot of heat. Others were less vocal, as in the radio media, but it was no secret that GW did us no favors financially while president.
Shocking! Next you are going to tell me that George H.W. Bush was never a true successor of Ronald Reagan! OMG!
For the dems, Rick Perry is GWB’s younger, evil brother. Perry is everything that Americans are now fondly remembering about Bush (Gitmo, Iraq, Afgan, Patriot Act, judicial nominations, etc), but much more conservative in those areas that Americans now realize are critical (spending, regulation and character).
I like Rick Perry, have send his campaign some $ (from WA) and sincerely hope he jumps into this race for President. With both boots.
WEIRD! I love Perry too, wnat him to run for Pres., have sent him money, and am also from WA. Or at least I live here (unfortunately). I am from SC, but thats another matter
Quite frankly, I’d have to put on my thinking cap to remember when there was a GOP fiscal conservative in more modern times. If one wants to be factually honest I would suggest looking at historical charts of government growth/budgets….accounting for certain types of events of course, in which, I think I remember seeing a chart that did so.
