Gingrich campaign staff quitting must mean Perry’s running
Two of the key operatives who just left Gingrich’s staff -Dave Carney and Rob Johnson – have been major advisers to Gov. Rick Perry. Does this mean Perry is about to jump in the presidential race? Sure looks like it.

Cool. I hope Perry is as capable as some here would have us believe. It seems perceived support by the tea party is a big factor in whether or not a candidate is popular. That is good news.
Which presidential race? The one for the President of the United States or the one for the Republic of Texas?
Either way works for me!
Mr Singer, You as many others have seem to imply that Rick Perry’s threat to secede from the union would be a bad thing. I applaud him for standing up for the people of his state. What some see as right wing “kookery” is actually great political hyperbole that shows just how insane the federal government has gotten under Comrade Obama!
I agree with you. If they keep it up we may see a 50 state secession one day. I will be there at the main Beltway ramp, taxing anyone who wants to leave DC… to make them taste their own medicine.
26 states are suing the federal government over obamacare here in Atlanta in the 11th circuit court of appeals. The states are indeed pushing back.
Hell, if Texas secedes, I’m moving to Houston.
“Hell, if Texas secedes, I’m moving to Houston.”
Right behind you. Well, probably not Houston – I like things a bit more rural. But you certainly have the area right…I’ll wave at you when I come into town.
Hell, if Texas secedes, I’m staying home and putting out a big ole bucket o’ Stars!
The Stars at night
They shine so bright…
One thing worries me about Perry. We had 2 previous presidents from TX, LBJ and Bush 2, not a very good record for TX. I love TX as a state, but I am worried about their ability to produce good presidents.
Yeah, LBJ was pretty awful. GW was less so, and the objectionable parts of him were, I’m convinced, due to his exposure to his North-Eastern family roots. He meant well, but he didn’t show a spine when it counted.
I don’t see Perry being weak kneed like GW, and he sure isn’t a leftist like LBJ.
I can see the left attacking him on his academic background — he is a former student Aggie, was in the Corps and was even a yell leader. NOT an Ivy League type. Not that I consider that to be a negative, we as a country have had way too much of an obsession with Ivy League elitism, IMHO.
But as a yell leader… leader of the 12th Man.
The legend continues…..
Think about it: the trend from LBJ to GW is definitely in the right direction. Maybe Perry can continue that improvement and redeem the reputation of Texan Presidents.
I don’t like how Perry pushed through a corporate income tax.
But he has held the line against an individual income tax. Taxing producers kinda makes sense, as long as it isn’t overdone. Taxing investors is a horrible idea and he realizes that.
A corporate income tax IS an individual income tax. It’s just one w/ no paperwork.
But it is one where I can choose, to a certain extent, whether or not I participate. Especially in this day and age of the internet. Yes, I understand that corporate taxes are just passed on to the consumer. But understand also that I can choose to consume or not, and I can choose whom to do business with. If I don’t consume, I don’t pay. If I do business with corporations outside of the state, I don’t pay. But if I am personally taxed, I have no choice but to pay.
The same principle applies to state and local sales taxes.
And yeah, I understand that the net effect of this is that business activity is driven out of state. It is harmful, but revenue does have to be raised somehow, even in Texas. Something about the lesser of 2 evils comes to mind.

You said… “But it is one where I can chose, to a certain extent, whether or not I participate. And yes I understand that corparate taxes are passed on to the consumer. But I also understand that I can comsume or not.”
Well good for you Bud. BUT if you don’t consume where are you going to get your food and water. Aha, You get your water from the government and you get your food from corporations. Or your drink your water from a (poluted )stream and grow your own veggies.. So take your pick. If you want to be a mountain man, good luck to you and your family. If not you have to get back to the world of reality.
I would like to hear your commets.
“BUT if you don’t consume where are you going to get your food and water.”
Read what I said. I inserted “to a certain extent” specifically because of this. Some things can be worked around, and some cannot.
Does the corporate income tax apply to government entities? No? Then the water objection is bogus. Food? Well, yes, I have to buy food and I do so locally of course. But it so happens that I do grow some of my own veggies. For example, alongside of dinner this evening we had a simply delicious salad that contained homegrown heirloom tomatoes (3 varieties) and basil. The tomatoes are so much better than plain ‘ol bland store bought.
Yeah, Perry would be a great choice…not!
1. Supports and REFUSES to do away with in state tuition reduction for illegal residents.
2. Attempted, albeit unsuccesfully, to force all teenage females to be vaccinated for HPV.
3. Supposrts the Global-Statist agenda by supporting the Ports-to-Plains project.
4. Has pressed forward with a social agenda at a time when the people of Texas need him to focus all of his and the legislature’s attention on fiscal crisis resolution. His priorities are amiss.
Not only is Perry not a good choice for POTUS, he needs to wrap up his executive career in Texas. This state and this country need someone who understands the fiscal crisis at hand and is willing to not only make it a priority but flat out refuses to exhaust energy on social issues which are inconsequential to actual public welfare. We need someone other than Rick Perry.
Re your point 2 above, you like cervical cancer?
Tort reform! Bravo Perry! Reform torts nationally and you will have enough doctors and a far better business climate….. Also, “right to work” is another big selling point for me. I think people should have the right to decide whether they want to join unions or not. Also whether they want to pay union dues…..
