The stupid Palin woman
In this Paul Revere thing, we’ve got Palin, who probably made a verbal slip that turns out to be true, or possibly knew an obscure part of Revere’s memoirs of the event, but in the mean time is shaping the “national conversation” about most of the major political issues today, and doing it with a Facebook page and an apparently supernatural ability to manipulate the media to her advantage, now that she’s no longer being “handled” by “professionals”. Conclusion: what a dope.
In the other corner, we’ve got Obama’s 57 states thing, which was actually another plausible slip (I think he actually meant “47 states”) that was still in no way true. Conclusion: it’s just a slip.
I’ll remind you of Barry Goldwater, the thoughtless stupid ideologue who set a lot of the Conservative movement in motion;
Jerry Ford, the stupid clumsy oaf who was a football star, who graduated in the top 25 percent at Yale Law School while coaching football full time, and was known to be supremely athletic, continuing to ski well into old age;
and Ronald Reagan, the “mere actor” who was president of SAG, two-term Governor of California, two-term President of the United States, and who even liberal historian Doug (son of David) Brinkley now admits was a brilliant and well-read man.
And I’d suggest that anyone who thinks Sarah Palin is stupid should never, never ever, take the other side of a bar bet with her.

She’s not stupid, just wrong about this event. Sorry Charlie (has that been used?).
She deserves an 80% at least. A more than passing grade.
There was a lot of bell ringing and gun shooting that night, done for the purpose of alarming, and Paul Revere did warn the British the militia was ready for them.
How do you know, Mark? Oh, I’ll grant that I suspect she really meant something like “raise the alarm against the British” but to claim she was wrong when she described something that, from Revere’s contemporaneous accounts, actually happened, sounds a … well, I wish I had the psychic power to know exactly what someone else was thinking.
Sarah had her facts right, and enough description to suggest she had read Revere’s own words about his capture by the Redcoats. He warned the Redcoats they would be in deep doo doo if they went to Lexington. She just exposed a number of ignorant snobs from both parties.
And yet, Mark, she was vindicated by a noted historian who supported her, verifying that, yeah, Paul Revere did warn the Brits.
Now, you can give all sorts of excuses for why she was right and 98% of the people were wrong, but let’s just go with the simplest, most logical explanation: letting the media decide for us who is intelligent and who isn’t in this country has got to be one of the dumbest things to do in America. Being an close observer of the scene, I’d trust Sarah Palin 1 million times as much as I’d trust anyone in the media letting anything loose from their mouths; even with a Encyclopedia Britannica and the entire Internet behind them.
And I hope to god she decides to run, and lets the country elect her …. because I will be cheering when I see the looks on her detractor’s faces on January 20th, 2012, as she is inaugurated.
Then it will be Morning in America again.
We all know you know that you really meant to say Jan 2013, but at least you can join the roster of gaffe-its.
She was asked about it while actually at the North Church. Never been there myself, but I have to imagine there was at least one plaque on the wall somewhere describing what happened that night – and I also have to imagine she had just read that plaque and formed her reply based on that historical reference.
There’s a plaque near the church.
i believe name calling is what this generation of demo-socialists will forever be known. every serious enemy is tagged with a clever name, with which to denounce. birthers comes to mind. at least with Palin we have her real background that we can verify. i still don’t believe anything little ‘o’ has to say; and, you can bet the farm he is hiding something big. i look forward to finding out just what past illegal activities he is paying to hide. honest people have little to hide.
Rush is right about one thing. whenever your enemy screams, as they constantly do about Palin, you have found their weakness. exploit it. use it. the enemy of my enemy.
Wrong? Ooooooops….The defining scholarly book on the topic is “Paul Revere’s Ride” by the Brandeis historian David Hackett Fischer. Go to the Google books link….click on “contents”…select “The First Shot”… [Ed: embedded the link]
“Mitchell repeated Paul Revere’s warning that 500 New England men were mustering in Lexington. He told of the alarm bells and signal guns, and the volley of musket-fire near the Green….Others also remembered with vivid clarity this electrifying instant when they halted on the road, and Paul Revere’s warning reached them through the mouth of this highly excited captor, Major Mitchell.”
If you are a member of the GOP, the Tea Party or just a “conservative” you must keep in mind that you cannot make a mistake. This is not a complaint, just recognition of the political press preference. For example, if Rep. McCotter were debating Obama and running circles around him the entire evening, as soon as he makes one slip — leaving the “tends” out of Lord Acton’s observation about power — the pundits and the media following their lead would report on nothing else.
Sarah Palin is as “dumb” as a fox.
I am sure that she studied up on Paul Revere and made her supposedly incorrect statement. The MSM took the bait.
She baited the MSM in reference to the year of the Boston Tea Party.
She baited the MSM when she said she was reading C.S. Lewis for political and philosophical insights. The MSM thought C.S. Lewis was merely a writer of children stories.
She is keeping the MSM off balance. She will keep baiting the MSM who will bite every single time.
And this is no coincidence. MSM is a collective of dopes.
Foxes don’t wear clothes or use dinnerware so I’d say Palin is smarter.
This is hardly the first time she has done it.
I suspect she’s very careful in her “gaffes”… and very carefully DOESN’T immediately say “Gotcha!”, but waits and lets others do it.
The current clown that the United States has as Vice President (the same job Palin was running for in 2008) told Katie Couric, in his interview with her, “When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the princes of greed. He said, ‘look, here’s what happened.’” How many historical problems can you find with that statement? Nobody in the mainstream media took note of it, including Couric, who simply dutifully reported it as if it was true (leading me to believe that they, too, were too historically ignorant to notice anything wrong with Biden’s statement).
If the press really wanted to target a dumb woman and throw them into their shark tank, I have a few real suggestions: Katie Couric herself (who has made gaffes and has failed to challenge people she’s interviewed over the years, including ‘Jumpin Joe’ Biden) … Whoopi Goldberg, who holds the ‘View’ record for consecutive programs spouting stupid things … Janeane Garofalo, who doesn’t have Jon Stewart’s ability to hide behind real comedic talent when she makes one of her numerous errors (like anyone who criticises Obama is a racist) … or Joy Behar, who simply refuses to read anything, or hold intelligent conversations with people that will expand her small mind.
I could go on, but that’s good enough for a start.
Most of the people who blather on and on about how stupid Palin is were more than happy to vote for John Edwards for VP in 2004.
Now who is stupid again?
If you think about her, and her family, I’d place good money on there being at least one amateur scholar of the Revolutionary War among them.
Remember the “party like it’s 1773″ line?
On Hannity:After demonstrating a shocking ignorance of Paul Revere, Palin lectures Fox viewers the importance Of being “In Touch With Our Nation’s History” WTF!
Uh, Rob, baby, the whole point of this is that Palin’s “ignorance” of Paul Revere turns out to have actually been lierally correct.
It’s one thing to be jet-lagged and say 57 states, it’s another to ramble on like an idiot. And she’s done this over and over again: our North Korean allies, the Bush Doctrine being Bush’s “world view,” that Alaska’s proximity to the wrong end of Russia gives her experience in international politics, etc.
You really need to begin vetting your own candidates. There are smart conservatives out there, ones who are courageous, stand up for conservative values, are good communicators, etc. I know a lot of them. Please just pick one of them, Palin does not deserve your time.
At least she IS a natural born US citizen and she doesn’t LIE every time she opens her pie hole. You lefty’s have SO much room to pontificate about vetting candidates. We hold down our heads in shame at your example in the WH.
“….Alaska’s proximity to the wrong end of Russia…”
What is the wrong end of Russia?
“They’re our next door neighbors. And you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska.” (Palin)
Are you one of those geographically-challenged people that think you can’t see Russia from Alaska?
And as for rambling like an idiot….
What about:
“I have visited all 57 States;”
“Austrians speak Austrian”
“Cinco de cuatro” (for cinco de mayo);
“Europe is a country”
“Mexicans have been here, before America was even an idea.”
I know he goes on holiday a lot but he can’t be jet-lagged all the time.
Dear Leader must have found those extra 7 states when he travelled back in time to 2008 a few days ago in England. That’s how really really smart he is.
It’s one thing to be jet-lagged and say 57 states,…
Is it? Why?
Especially when some of her famous “gaffes” — like “party like it’s 1773″ or “you can see Russia from Alaska” — turn out to have been times when she knew the topic better than the people sneering.
Ok, John, I’ll spell it out for you about her statement about Russia.
Palin, as Governor, was commander of the AK national guard. One of those units, an air defense unit, is the only full-time active, NG unit. Russia has been known to push the envelop and violate our airspace, or threaten to. They test us there.
Because of this, Palin had the highest security clearance of any of the candidates in ’08. She got occasional briefings on strategic war plans, because AK is crucial to our defense.
Because of security reasons, she couldn’t come right out and say it. All she could do was intimate the situation. And of course, all the idiots in the MSM failed to make the connection and say, “Oh.” They fail to connect the dots, because they do not want to. Willful ignorance.
It is their, and your, ignorance which makes them think Palin is dumb. Time after time, she is proven to be right, and none of you sit back and reconsider your opinion of her. She beats you like a rented mule, and you never effin’ learn.
“You can’t fix stupid.” – Ron White
You know, don’t you, that the Governor of Alaska must be briefed on issues of national security, because of Alaska’s proximity to Russia and the strategic defenses deployed there. So, Palin as Gov of Alaska had to know “secrets”. Your mockery of her shows your ignorance of her strengths.
But, don’t you see. All conservatives are stupid and unable to grasp what the brilliant, misunderstood, liberal, John Kerry referred to as “nuances”. Also note it became known after the campaigns were over that the same supposedly brilliant Kerry had a lower grade-point average at Yale than did the supposed buffoon that bested him, and won the election, George W. Bush.
Similarly portrayed as a buffoon, Palin is smart, shrewd, and politically deft—not daft. Good luck to her.
Harvard Yard Conservative – Exactly my thoughts. Remember how much fun they made of Ronald Reagan. I keep remembering Clark Clifford’s words about President Reagan’s being an amiable dunce. I would rank Reagan right up there with Washington and Lincoln. What is interesting is that supposedly smart presidents have turned out to be absolute disasters. Let me name a few: Woodrow Wilson, Herbert Hoover, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama. On the other hand, plain-janes have been quite good: Calvin Coodlidge, Harry Truman and, of cours, Ronald Reagan.
I should note that I am surprised at the conservatives who don’t like Gov. Palin, and, in particular, Pere Whener on Commentary Contentions. Every chance he gets, he denigrates Gov. Palin. Other people there, as well, are lukewarm towards her. I for one thinks she scares the h*ll out of “liberals.” Mr. Martin – I am glad to see which side you’re on.
I took what she said entirely differently than -anybody- I’ve heard, in either the media, or in commentary.
She implied to my mind that the bell-ringing was an act of defiance aimed at the British…IE, he wasn’t “warning” the British, he was saying “F*** You” to them by not worrying about the fact that the noise could be heard both by the colonists and by the British and/or British sympathizers themselves.
It must be a regional thing. I and others I know understood her perfectly. It was no error, and it wasn’t related to the encounter with the British officer later.
Paul Revere was saying, “We’ll be damned if we’ll hide from you. We’re going to fight you until you die or go away. We are not scared peasants who shrink from a battle because we might get a boo-boo on our elbows. So I don’t give a rat’s behind whether you hear this or not.”
Seems to me Malatrope has it basically correct. People often interpret the same statement differently. This is how I heard her ….
Clear simple true statement.
So in that sense the capture and interrogation is not necessarily the point of her statement (but likely part of it). The colonists were deliberately open about their intent to put up armed resistance.
Seems like conservatives pay way to much attention to the media shills, the longwinded pundits and the liberals to make up our own minds. Are we going to let the Beltway Republicans or the media tell us who is representing us again as they did in 2008? Palin is the person they have attacked the most, insulted the most, made fun of the most, and FEAR the most because they know that their little experiment with socialism ends with her. Stop listening to people who say she is stupid and ask them why they feel that way. Bet they can’t answer. It is still too early in the campaign for anyone to get in so the media can beat them up. When and if Sara enters it she will own the media and I hope that conseratives will rally aroung her. Otherwise the establishment will pick our candidate again. Palin/West 2012
Steve, I can see your argument, but ever since I started the Palin Rumors List I’ve taken the position that it’s important to get the refutations out rather than let them go unanswered.
I agree with Charlie. There are too many people who would just take this stuff as gospel unless there are other, different sources out there. Every time this stuff is served up to the American public, conservatives should always point to what else is on the menu and then let people choose – this is still America, after all, and there’s no law against someone being stupid (Example: Mr. Weiner).
Someone posted this entire thing on Townhall today without attribution.
Hey, what’s up, Doc?
Sorry, I just couldn’t resist.
Anyway, thanks — I can’t find it, so if you could drop us a link, I’d appreciate it. I did find it on FreeRepublic, but it’s linked and attributed.
How about this for a theory: Palin’s bus tour is not about a Presidential campaign; it is about revealing exactly how silly and ignorant the “Lamestream” media really is.
And boy, is she (as usual) successful.
Mark Steyn once said that only America could produce a Sarah Palin. You guys should be so proud!
I really liked it when Steyn said that, and I’m proud to be a citizen of the country he admires so much … but I’d also like to think Sarah could be a Canadian, or a Brit, or an Aussie as well.
We four nations, along with the Israelis, should just chuck it all and form our own group – democracies who believe the same things and will look out for each other. The rest of the planet can just fend for themselves.
I am proud and will thank her the rest of my life, I have kids and care about their future!! I wish people realized when these people/media attack and say nasty things about her they are really doing it about “we the people”! They despise us and she is “us”. So if you can’t defend her, you don’t think much of yourselves, it’s that simple. So buck up and remember the “Bruce” rule, if the attack on her sounds like she said/did something stupid/crazy, they’re lying, period, because she won’t do it, she knows her stuff, it’s been 2yrs for Gods sake and it won’t happen because she’s the real thing
grrrrrr
Check out this poll. Can you decide which thing Sarah Palin really said? lol
POLL: http://www.wepolls.com/r/434373
This chick needs to go back to school.
Why? So she can teach idiots like you English?
No. You do.
Libs just don’t get Sarah’s God Gravitus, right Mr. Rove, Chief RINO in charge? Please dear God, let the scales fall from their eyes before it is all too late.
“In the other corner, we’ve got Obama’s 57 states thing, which was actually another plausible slip (I think he actually meant “47 states”) that was still in no way true”
If he meant 47 states how can it be a slip? He thinks there are 47 states and misspoke to say there were 57? What’s the difference? I think it’s an entirley differnt situation. He went to elementary school in indonesia where they have heniz ketchup but don’t teach american history. I think the president learned everything he knows about american history from jeramiah wright and saul alinsky.
The Organization of the Islamic Conference has 57 states. Google it.
… and that’s why he is ashamed to be an american
It`s strange to me- the Eurasian foreigner the American watchfulness and weak understanding of Palin woman( even her wit or stupidity). To compare the easiness of black Obama`s election. This is the masculine culture works( as a foreigner I perceive his speech as the sergeant`s).
I have listened to Sarah enough now to know that she is both ignorant and clever. She also requires scripting to sound somewhat coherent….otherwise it tends toward word salad. here limited vocabulary is sprinkled with lots of words like freedom and liberty, liberty and freedom and did I say freedom?
