On his show, Hardball, Chris Matthews accused presidential candidate Mitt Romney - and by extension the Republican Party – of racism, and of being Nativists. Specifically, Romney’s reference to Obama’s economic policy as “European” was, to Matthews, and former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell, a slur.
You can find the video clip here.
Matthews and Rendell think that the use of the term “European” is name calling. Rendell specifically stated that if GOP contenders have an issue with Obama’s policies, they should say so directly. Unfortunately, Rendell isn’t capable of understanding that calling Obama’s economic policy “European” is pretty direct. After all, should a presidential contender really say Obama’s economic policy is a scam job that will destroy the US economy? Is that direct enough? Or, is that a “slur” as well? (As a side note, yes…presidential candidates should say exactly that!)
How is this all racist? Well, Matthews’ first comment, after listening to Romney’s comments, is, “…let’s keep race out of it for five seconds….” Matthews is obviously stating that Romney is attacking Obama based on race, and using the “slur” of “European” as code to do so.
What do you think?

I think “raaaaacist” is all we’re gonna hear from Obama (or rather, his media proxies like Chrissy Tingles so the Racer-In-Chief can pretend to be “above it all”) because, after all, the SOBs HAVE NOTHING ELSE! Run on his record? He’d have a better chance running on Charles Manson’s record.
If I listened to a race baiting idiot like Matthews my take on history would be that the Nazis were defending themselves against racism.
One could easily write an essay on the entire prime time line up of MSNBC in fact being purveyors of casual hate speech while in fact hiding behind an agenda where political policies are advanced by skin color, who’s having sex with who and gender: not exactly the basis of a Constitution.
Pay close attention to this excerpt from an essay:
“On May 17 Cornel West appeared on ‘The Ed Show’ on MSNBC and denied his comments about the President were personal and instead said ‘I am relentlessly criticizing him in the name of the plight and predicament of poor children, mistreated workers, those unfairly incarcerated;’ Since those West mentions are obviously black folks and those ‘unfairly incarcerated’ are in some fantasy world of West’s entirely black folks while white prisoners are apparently fairly incarcerated, all West’s does here is offer further proof that he operates from the same intellectual space as does any racist hate group; keep in mind: this guy is a professor at Princeton University. In my opinion West has no business teaching at any public institution in this country – you may as well hire David Duke if you want a non-stop cavalcade of advocacy and blame by race.
Melissa Harris-Perry of Princeton University now moving to Tulane University appeared on that same segment directly after Cornel West and she only affirms that the black intelligentsia only really disagrees on the extent to and direction in which the President has been successful as the President of Black America and not whether he should be – there is no disagreement within the black elite about black advocacy by the President. Miss Harris-Perry said:
‘This is a President who signed an act that actually reduces the ways in which we go after marijuana, make it harder to put people in jail around cocaine at the Federal level, actually liberating more black bodies from the criminal justice system…’
To me, that is an incredible statement to make in public since it apparently says that black folks use more marijuana and cocaine than anyone else and that to cope with it marijuana and cocaine laws need decriminalizing – why says Ms. Harris-Perry? Well, it’s simple: she’s black and those being prosecuted are black and that is all she needs. The greater issue of justice is nowhere to be found as it applies to people in general nor is such an interest to be found at the NAACP, the Congressional Black Caucus or among America’s black intellectuals – the concept of the greater good and the carrying on of that tradition is unfortunately left to racist whites. The Horatio Alger story which reflects a meritocracy so disdained among black writers is in fact a recognition that good things are where you find them and not where you expect to find them. By extension, this means that bad things are also going to occupy that same space. The idea that hate speech is always going to come from a guy in a white hood or wearing a swastika arm band and so ignoring all else is hopelessly childish.
In the case of Ms. Harris-Perry it is especially surprising to hear such nonsense coming from a person who claims to despise racism and sees that racism in white folks while utterly unable to see it in herself. Let’s have a version of her comments with President Bush saying something like her statement about liberating white ‘bodies’ from the prison system and see how quickly the Goebbels/Nazi/hate speech comparison sticks. These people in America’s black elite don’t even make a secret of their racism and no one challenges them on it, least of all each other.
Miss Harris-Perry admits on camera that not only did President Obama decriminalize laws that are unfavorable to black folks but that she’s happy he did it and thinks it’s right. I’m not sure how it could be the goal of anyone but an utter racist to liberate people from the criminal justice system based on their skin color but that it is the goal of this woman is undeniable and echoes Michael Eric Dyson’s own moronic commentary on this issue wherein he states that ‘there is a vicious prison system that hungers for young black and brown bodies.’
I find it amusing that Ed Schultz can have a woman who is a clear racist on his program and be nice and friendly to her but one week later on his radio show refer to Laura Ingraham as a ‘right-wing slut’ for being critical of Obama. There is some really disturbing disconnect there because no matter how wrong Ingraham was in her portrayal of Obama it just doesn’t rise to the level of advocating the gerrymandering of laws around skin color which is clearly racist. Schultz received a one week ban from his MSNBC TV show for his radio comments but he should’ve received it for being so chummy with 2 racists like West and Harris-Perry.”
Which of these premises are yours? It seems to be from an “essay”, but whose?
And..what is this?
he should’ve received it for being so chummy with 2 racists like West and Harris-Perry.”
Who is it that thinks West is racist?
Anybody who’s ever read West knows he’s a race obsessed racist who couldn’t stop talking about race for a year if challenged without wrecking his career and that goes for the entirety of the black elite.
What difference does it make where the essay came from? Watch that May 17 Ed show on MSNBC’s site and judge for yourself.
You have 2 morons who advocate for a President of Black America and also advocate gerrymandering law around skin color. How much more do you have to say to channel Joseph Goebbels? If a white teacher at Princeton did this stuff Eric Holder and the Dept. of Education would be all over them in a heartbeat.
This immunity from being seen as hate speech because of race and gender has got to stop in America.
I’ve heard of “European” being used as another word for white, but never for black. I think Chris Matthews is just a bit dim.
I think that if Matthew’s shaved his head, he’d bear a striking resemblance to Jared Loughner.
Matthews …
Well, jvon, just remember he’s ‘half-black’, and so can be gratuitiously insulted from both sides.
Not that he doesn’t deserve insulting.
And who is this ‘Chris Matthews’ of whom y’all speak?
I think Tony is blurring the intent of the term “racer,” and robbing it of its utility. Unless I misunderstand, it was originally coined to use in identifying negatively all the race hustlers/Progressives who insist on treating every criticism of the Obama agenda as motivated by racism — hence they are “racers.” They see everything through the lens of race and/or seek advantage by forcing every issue to revolve around the issue of race animus.
So, by suggesting progressive critics of Romney seek to find the “racer” in him, Tony makes the term nearly identical to racist.
The point is, Dems/Progressives love to drag out the word racist every time someone disagrees with them, and it would be nice to establish and confine “racer” as a term with which we can immediately point out the intellectual and moral bankruptcy of this, their favorite political ploy in the age of Obama. Did you just suggest someone is a racist because they disagree with Obama or you? Then I’ll immediately call attention to the dishonesty and stupidity of your smear tactic by accurately identifying you as a “racer.”
Levans,
So you don’t object to the article, you object to the headline. What headline would you use?
(I really look forward to your response, as I thought your comment was very well thought out.)
– Tony
That’s right, Tony, I think the headline substitutes “racer” for “racist,” but I agree entirely with the article. In fact, I think the headline kind of undercuts the thrust of the article. It’s Matthews and Rendell that reveal themselves as professional “racers” by suggesting Romney’s reference to Obama’s policy as “European” is racist.
Unfortunately, I’m absolutely the wrong person to suggest headlines, because I tend to add qualifiers all over the place; when forced to abbreviate as required in this headline, I would tend to muddle everything up by getting too much into the headline. Like: “On MSNBC, racers Matthews and Rendell imply Romney description of “European” for Obama policy is racist.”
Levans,
I will consider all of that more thoroughly on the next article. Many thanks.
– Tony
Matthews is getting his secret code words confused. There still must be some kind of journ-o-list ministry putting out the directive:
Keep the dream alive
Keep the meme alive
…but Matthews can’t keep it all straight in his blimpy head.
In the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, the mask was finally ripped away from the sewage spewing anti-American anti-western (and thus anti-white) far left in the American media. When barbaric third world Muslims attacked this country, their primary narrative that Western Civilization, code words to them for “White” civilization, is the scourge of the planet fell apart utterly. Since then they have attempted mightily to revive this old narrative which had worked so well for so long. It is one reason they attempt to attach the racist(tm) slur to their enemies whenever possible.
Is it imbecilic for Matthews to use one of the coded terms of the left – i.e. “European” – which is supposed to connote “White Imperialism” in their play book – to imply “racist”. LOL. He can’t keep his lies straight.
Awhile back Mathews said that Huckabee was finished as a polititian because a convict he granted clemency to went to Washington state and shot four policemen to death. In a interview with the NYT Magazine the reported asked Huckabee what he thought about about Mathews’ comments. In one of his finest moments, Huckabee said “Who cares what Mathews thinks.” Likewise, I say who cares what Matthews says about anything. Actually I think he is an MSMBC slut.
Have you been drinking?
