Well, at the least, that is the message that the Manolo takes from the picture shown above, although perhaps the actual statement from His Tibetan Holiness was more nuanced.
As a human being, Bin Laden may have deserved compassion and even forgiveness, the Dalai Lama said in answer to a question about the assassination of the Al Qaeda leader. But, he said, “Forgiveness doesn’t mean forget what happened. … If something is serious and it is necessary to take counter-measures, you have to take counter-measures.”
No, that seems fairly clear to the Manolo.
Wow. That was bolder than the Vatican.
It’s worth remembering that HHDL is an incarnation of Avelokiteswara the Bodhisattva of Compassion, not Heather the Bodhisattva of Kittens and Unicorns. If you’ve got a tumor, the compassionate thing is to remove it, not chide it and ask it to be a better mass of cells.
