The UN Human Rights Charade
Unless something intervenes to stop it, Syria is about to become a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council. It’s not necessary to belabor the absurdity of such a development, or the moral vacuity of U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s refusal to discourage Syria’s election: “It’s a matter for the states,” he says. American opposition is likely but, on this matter, we have no veto. So here’s a suggestion: The U.S. should declare that if Syria is elected, the U.S. will resign its seat on the Council. Maybe the prospect of our refusal to continue in the monumental hypocrisy of a U.N. panel that routinely defends the worst abusers of human rights (many of which have become members precisely for that purpose), will sway enough votes to block Syria’s election. And if it doesn’t–well, we should never have joined the Council in the first place.

I agree with your view of this outlandish and inappropriate action. I think that if we were to leave actions of any sort to the U.N. we would have even more chaos in the world than we have now. Maybe resigning from this Council would be a step in the right direction, cutting funding for any ‘peace-keeping actions would be another. At least the factions would even-up the fight somewhat. For Syria to be in the U.N. is a sign of where this organizations motives lie. They need to be disbanded.
The UN functions as designed as a council of nations and peoples: of course most of the UN members are cruel tyrannies. How could it be any other?
We should assign several predator drones to keep an eye on the UN. We should also cease all funding pending “reforms”.
UN must be drived to EU conditions of consensus. The Western States must have the freedom to undertake the unilateral political actions. The payments must be equalized with th voices number!
