That’s the story from the Wall Street Journal, but apparently the President’s magic touch works as well with congressional leaders as it does with the Iranians. Read:

President Barack Obama emerged from a late-night meeting Wednesday with House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid saying the two parties had moved closer to a spending agreement to avoid a government shutdown Friday, but no deal had been struck.

Where was Obama last year, when Pelosi and Reid simply refused to even consider passing a budget? That’s why Boehner keeps having to come up with these continuing resolutions.
