ElBaradei: If Israel attacks Gaza, it’s war
That’s not an idle statement. It’s part of the platform he’s using to run for president of Egypt.
Former International Atomic Energy Agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei, who had previously announced his intetions to run for the presidency of Egypt, said Monday that “if Israel attacked Gaza we would declare war against the Zionist regime.”
Israel would on launch military operations on Gaza in response to terrorist attacks, rocket launches and so forth based there. So ElBaradei seems to be setting up a shield for the terrorists to use Gaza as a base of operations.
The rest of ElBaradei’s platform? Spread the wealth around.
Discussing his agenda for Egypt, ElBaradei said that distribution of income between the different classes in Egypt would be his most important priority if he were to win the upcoming elections.
And they say Islamists and the left have nothing in common…

There goes the Sinai again, ElBaradei. This time you won’t get it back..
Never mind the Sinai or Suez. A few blasts against the Aswan dam will will mean disastrous flooding for Cairo, Alexandria and all main population centers along the Nile. Look at a nighttime satellite photo of Egypt and the lights form a tight line tracing the river.
Baradei is a poor general, to borrow an old Yul Brynner quote.
I wonder if all the morons who thought tossing Mubarak under the bus would like to step up to the plate and admit their moronicness??? PJM featured a bunch of morons who thought jettisoning Mubarak was a good idea. Well??? He was about the best we can expect from the Muslim Arab scum of Planet Earth…
Geez this guy is a putz. How does a guy like this become the chief of the IAEA?
I have a strong feeling that the times we are about to experience will be prominent in history books 1,000 years from now…assuming any of us are left by then.
one can only hope…
egypt will lose, of course, but the punishment for the loss will be severe this time – they will have to take gaza and officially make it a part of egypt.
No, if there is war, then Israel takes Gaza, forces the Palestinians to move to Egypt or elsewhere, and rebuilds the greenhouses and industries that the childish Palenstinians destroyed when Israel left.
nope, never happen – a lot of israelis are so against transfer that any attempt will start a civil war.
I’m an American and I’m holding the keys to the shack with all the spare parts and extra ammo for the U.S. equipment that makes up the Egyptian army.
The idea of the Egyptian military entering Gaza during an Israeli incursion is far-fetched to the point of absurdity. Until Egypt refits themselves with a Chinese or Russian army with money they don’t have, they will be content to do vagina inventory among the dangerous female protesters of Tahrir Square.
The problem is, the Gazans might be stupid enough to believe this rhetoric and step up missile attacks to invite an Israeli incursion.
My bet is that the Egyptian army will suddenly find something else to do if Gaza lights up. Privately, El Baradei has told his supporters since before he came back to Egypt that he will abrogate the treaty with Israel and for even longer has said he considers Israel the No.1 threat to the Mideast.
El Baradei can open the gates at the Rafah crossing with Gaza and the West will be closing the gates of a brand new dam we help build South of Egypt. Egypt has in reality been so disarmed that they don’t actually have a saber to rattle. Egypt doesn’t realize that it is surrounded and must play nice; if it doesn’t, spare military parts, rivers, canals and peninsulas could suddenly disappear.
Add foreign tourism disappearing, loans not forgiven and foreign investment not made and I have to say that it is about as neatly wrapped a package as one could wish for. All one needs is some Redskins fans in Ray-Bans whispering pleasant nothings in ears.
And this is the guy who was booted from the revolution leadership because he was too liberal and too Westernized.
This mass uprising across IslamWorld is decidedly NOT a movement towards liberalized democratic societies. We’re sitting back watching the birth of the Unified Mullah’s Kingdom, whose sole aim will be to end the insult to Allah that our non-Islamic existence implies.
For our part, we’ve elected a crop of politicians whose main concern is going to be that we not offend the jihadists as they come for us, along with a president who’s doing his best to take away our economic and financial ability to win such a war, while antagonizing all of our allies so that we’ll all be left to our own devices when the war cranks up.
The world consists of far fewer random and disconnected elements than people seem to assume.
Sounds as though Mr. el Baradei is feeling protective of the Gaza Strip.
If he says that again, who’s to blame the Israelis for taking him at his word? They can cut off all access to Gaza from Israel, and all aid & services to it. (That’s where most aid to Gaza comes from.)
If he wants the Gaza Strip, he can have it. And he’ll be very sorry indeed that he ever opened his big mouth.
Now, here’s another question. The United States gives Egypt an awful lot of aid, as a bribe to NOT violate the peace treaty with Israel. If el Baradei attains power, what happens to that aid?
Didn’t this El Baradei guy get a Nobel Peace Prize? What are those Norskis doing up there in Oslo? First Arafat, then Algore, and El Baradei and Mr. Obama .. talk about a bad run of luck!
Where’s the statement from ElBaradei “if Gaza attacked Isreal we would declare war against the Islamist regime?”
As for the redistribution of wealth, why does it seem like all the money always gets eaten up by overhead?
Bring. It. On.
Remember what happened the last time when the Egyptians tried to follow the Israelis across the Red Sea?
El Baradei is a politician. he knows the MB is eating his lunch. He needs to come out strong on the situation even if it is near impossible.
On the other hand, there is a definite strain of nationalism running through Egypt. been there for awhile. Recently read several posts from young Egyptians who are either “halfies” as they say or have been raised outside of Egypt so don’t walk or talk like an Egyptian. They are constantly asked why they are marching in the protests, where they are from, etc, etc, etc.
Racism and nationalism are not just western inventions. I think that El Baradei is playing to those nationalist trends to try to get some form of unified support. Moussa has nearly disappeared from the stage. The MB says they support El Baradei for president, then undermine him at every turn (they are definitely two aced).
In the short order, el Baradei is a socialist and his main body of support comes from the socialist leaning youth. They are the ones that keep organizing the protests and insisting on the army meeting their demands to oust the previous regime. El baradei keeps pushing these issues. This may also play to the army who has been an army in the barracks until recently while at the same time exerting the idea that a civilian president can “lead” the military.
(Think of it on line with Obama smacking at Libya to try to prove his CINC creds).
The only question is whether this will cause the terrible feed back loop of the street calling for war. neither he nor the military will be able to stop it and will have to respond or find themselves out in the cold. Very dangerous game.
Here’s an idea: Israel should simply give the Gaza strip to Egypt as a gift, then inform them that they are responsible for its security and that any attacks emanating from it would be considered a hostile action by Egypt.
Israel will never get anything useful from Gaza, why not make it somebody else’s problem? Make a big deal out of it, “Israel Finally Returning Gaza to the Arab Fold”. Okay, so the Arabs will declare it a moral victory but who cares? Just be done with it already.
I like this idea. Then the next time Hamas fires a missile at Sderot Israel can respond by re-occupying the Sinai.
israel tried, egypt flatly refused. the only way to do it is to go to the war, beat egypt badly, and force them to take gaza as punishment.
It bears repeating the Israel has thermonuclear weapons (aka H-bombs, city-busters).
Unless Egypt has a way of hiding Cairo, it would be Muslim foolish to threaten Israel’s existence.
The Egyptian army has been getting $2 billion a year in US funding. The only mission they plan and train for is to invade the unnamed enemy to the north east. Fortunately, the senior officers in the army are fairly moderate and friendly to the US.
However, the same was true in Turkey until about 5 years ago, when the pro-Islamist government started rooting out secular officers from the Turkish army and promoting Islamists. If this happens to the Egyptian army the muslim brotherhood will become very influential in the army, and there will be another war.
#6 James – the Egyptians are producing the M1A tank domestically, they make their own parts and ammo for it. You don’t hold the keys.
You should probably read this: https://csis.org/files/publication/110210_egypt-arab-israeli_mil_bal.pdf
Israel can defeat Egyptian tanks, but they cannot defeat Hezbollah guerrillas.
The two sides fought to a draw in 2006, but now Hezbollah has 50,000 more rockets than in 2006, with much longer range.
If Israel attacks Gaza, much of Israel will be on fire within hours.
Insha’Allah
إن شاء الله
