Uganda offers Gaddafi a new home

How sweet:

Uganda has said Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi would be welcome, in what appears to be the first country to offer him a possible exit route.

“So we have soft spots for asylum seekers. Gaddafi would be allowed to live here if he chooses to do so,” Mirundi was quoted as saying by The Associated Press.

President Museveni spokesman Tamale Mirundi said Wednesday the country’s policy is to accept asylum seekers.

Uganda has a history of its own leaders going off into exile rather than face trial for their crimes. Idi Amin ended up in Saudi Arabia, and Milton Obote was deposed and exiled to Namibia.
