Pentagon Channel Report - More than 2,000 Marines from the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit and 2nd Marine Expeditionary force, deployed along with Amphibious Squadron 6 for Libya March 29.
According to GlobalSecurity.org, “The Amphibious Ready Group’s capabilities range from providing medical supplies, personnel and food for evacuation in the event of natural disaster, to landing combat ready Marines ashore.”
Are we stepping up combat operations or are these units going to start supplying the rebels?

I think the mission of those Marines that everyone should take seriously is the one mention in the last line of the blurb from GlobalSecurity.org; that would be the “landing combat ready Marines ashore. Everything else is just BS to make the liberals feel good. Of course the Marines can provide medical supplies, food, clothing, personnel and whatever but the primary mission of the MEU and the MEF are to land combat ready Marines. These particular Marines are not touchy feely types; their mission is to break things and kill people and they are the best light infantry in the world.

The LHD class amphibious assault ship is an extremely powerful fighting machine, one which also carries a 600 bed military hospital. To find out more, go here. The LHD-5, USS Batan, is on the way to the Med with its support group. There are more than enough Marines on board to take any of the coastal cities in Libya. The LHA-5, USS Pelileu, is also on station off Libya.
