If we had more altruists like Andrew Breitbart, the world would be a better place

I received a copy of Andrew Breitbart’s new book Righteous Indignation: Excuse Me While I Save the World! and immediately started reading. I find Breitbart’s enthusiasm and restless indignation of the liberal media refreshing and candid. His book was exactly the same.

I have heard Breitbart speak about how he became more right-leaning but it was interesting to read the story of his transition from default liberal to conservative/libertarian when he saw Clarence Thomas raked over the coals because of his political leanings. But even more importantly, Breitbart saw what the media did to shape the story line without evidence because they were in collusion with the Democratic party with no regard for free speech or the truth. Breitbart has spent the rest of his career righting this wrong.

He has done it at great personal expense to himself and his dedication and sheer determination in this regard are worthy of respect, even if you do not agree with his politics. Most people have trouble standing up to the smallest of confrontations; Breitbart has taken on the mainstream media and is winning that war. His book is a testament to all that he has done from being Matt Drudge’s “bitch” to becoming a one-man army for free speech and freedom for all, despite one’s political leanings.

Read the book, it is quite a journey.

  1. Andrew Breitbart is the man!

  2. Andrew is a true fighter for freedom. I was fortunate enough to share dinner with him and his wife (and 7 other people) on a cruise, and his passion to correct the lies of the MSM is just incredible. There is no doubt in my mind that he is doing this to open the eyes of the American People to what has happened to our country. He is a true patriot!

I would be hesitant to call it altruism, given that it is our best interest to not let the bad guys win. Yes, the left which starts with lies, and if allowed moves on to theft, enslavement, torture, and murder, are the bad guys.

    • This. Andrew’s actions are anything but altruistic. He has abundant self-interest in taking these actions. For which I applaud him. He has clearly sacrificed much in his pursuit of authentic truth and justice. (Is this the American way?;)

His actions are heroic. He deserves all the praise in the world.

You have one typo. Thomas was raked over the coals. I like Breitbart, too. He seems to be the most successful libertarian activists ever.

  5. Buck Smith,

    Thanks for the editing!

He’s successful because he operates under Alinsky rules. Too many conservatives think it’s enough to be right and win the argument. Breitbart understands that that and five bucks buys a cup of coffee. You can’t fight a crocodile with an argument.

  7. One of my perennial questions is what motivates a man, not merely to change his political alignment, but to become an activist in his new one. Andrew Breitbart impresses me for his energy and his broad sweep of activities, quite as much as for his opinions. I hope the book delves into that aspect of his transformation.

Why do you call it altruism? Standing up for what you believe in is called integrity.

It’s easier to be an altruist when you make money doing it, or already have a lot of money from another source. I don’t mean that cynically, but it’s true.

It’s the stories about poor people who are altruistic that really impress me.

I’ve said it on many other blogs, and I’ll scream it again here…..ANDREW BREITBART FOR HEAD OF THE RNC!!!

Rush Limbaugh talks about media bias all the time, but he’s resigned himself to the idea that “these people are who they are”, as well as being resigned to the fact that the Republican party doesn’t have the balls or the brains to go after the media with both guns blazing.

The difference between Limbaugh and Breitbart is that Limbaugh came from a Conservative family and has been a Conservative his whole life. Breitbart, like me, is an ex-Liberal, who even did fundraising for the Democrats in his youth. And it’s true that converts are the biggest zealots. For Breitbart, when Toto pulled the curtain and the great Oz was revealed, it lit a fire under him that Limbaugh doesn’t possess.

He not only understands that the key to bringing down the Democrats is to attack, attack, attack the Liberal pop culture trimvirate of the media/academia/entertainment industry, he’s willing to get his hands dirty and DO IT! He knows that without these institutions acting as full fledged propagandists, the Democrats would either never win another election, or else be forced to become much more centrist.

As much as I respect Limbaugh, he spent years poo-pooing the idea the Conservatives taking to the streets and protesting. Breitbart rightly sees modern day Conservatives as the new counter-culture taking on the Liberal pop culture establishment. Limbaugh sees himself as a truth teller in Dockers and loafers, not a rebel in ripped jeans. Breitbart understands that the key to attracting more people to Conservatism is to play up the rebel angle.

Breitbart and Greg Gutfeld are the two most important people in the modern day Conservative movement, as they have their finger on the pulse of the kind of table turning that Conservatives must engage in.

You are welcome. We Smiths must hang together or we will hang separately! heh.
