AWACS are now on 24-hour surveillance over Libya with a NATO meeting planned for Thursday to determine whether to make the North African nation a no-fly zone. Other possibilities on table are actions against Gaddafi’s helicopter gun ships and airfields. Apparently there is some fear of anti-aircraft missiles attacking US jets as modern weaponry has been sold the Libyan dictator by the West.

And what are the rebels promising to do for us if we help them? Or are we just throwing money at people we know nothing about and who are just as likely to turn against us as they are to be allies? And are those US awacs? Where is Europe? Who buys Libyan oil the US or Europe? I understood the arguments for intervention in Afghanistan and Iraq but I don’t understand the justification in Libya.
The Libyan rebels refused to meet with British diplomats who went there to speak to them. Why is the west helping people who don’t want our help? What is the likelihood that the rebels who hate the west enough to refuse help in a life or death struggle with kadaffi will appreciate a no fly zone and be our allies in the future?
NATO AWACS are not _over_ Libya, but are offshore nearby and close enough to monitor flight activity.
No-fly doesn’t work well against choppers. It’s a stupid idea.
