It is difficult to overstate the devastation in Christchurch NZ.  The New Zealand Herald has photos here.  Christchurch is one of the most lovely English speaking cities in the world.  Many are dead and more still remain buried.  The iconic spire of the Christchurch Cathedral came crashing down into the public square before a lunchtime crowd.  To the people of the South Island, the destruction of the Cathedral would be akin to the St. Louis arch or Coit Tower collapsing.  If you’ve ever seen Peter Jackson’s Heavenly Creatures, it was filmed in Christchurch and captures the charm of the city.  The city has the look of England and some of the nicest people on the planet.
