Suicide Bomber Hits Moscow Airport - Distant Personal Report

I have been in Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport where a suicide bomber has killed, as of now, 23 people with more that 130 injured. I was on my way to Khanty-Mansisk in Western Siberia to attend a film festival. It was 2003, but I remember Domodedovo well. I had just come from the relative modernity of Sheremetyevo, the international airport and entry from Europe and the USA. Domodedovo, an hour away, was totally different – Russia’s gateway to Asia and a maelstrom, even then, after midnight. Totally disorganized, it reminded me of a bazaar – just the place for a suicide bomber to strike. Putin, as we all know, will not be merciful.
