The Beltway media reacted to today’s House ObamaCare repeal by declaring that it’s DOA in the Senate. PJTV’s Alexis Garcia gets past the media narrative and finds out that repeal’s chances in the Senate may be better than they seem.
Update: Sen. Mitch McConnell is promising that after the House vote, the Senate will “soon follow suit.”
Of course they are. That’s why Harry Reid is terrified of bringing it up for a vote. If he was sure it would be defeated, he’d have it out there tomorrow morning so that the media could point to the defeat of the repeal effort by the 6:00 evening newscast.
Of course he’s afraid to bring up the repael vote! He knows that it will pass and Obama will be angry with him. Reid’s job is to get paid a lot of money to help the totalitarian left take away our freedom. 67. However, that’s not really the point. Harry Reid isn’t gonna bring it up because he has several ugly facts staring him in the face.
1) Harry doesn’t have to run again till 2016. Obama, however, has to run next year.
2) Harry desperately doesn’t wanna have to deal with a Republican President along with a Republican House and (probably) a Republican Senate.
3) Harry knows that if he were to bring repeal up for a vote, a number of his red-state Democrats who are up for re-election next year might just vote “aye.” All they need is 51 to send it to Obama’s desk.
That would lead to the scene of Obama having to veto it. Now, perception-wise, that’s bad enough… ObamaCare has become highly toxic and only a very few of the nuttiest of Dems are willing to touch it. However, a veto would also set up a long drawn out fight over overriding the veto… probably futile, but it would hammer home the point that Obama is standing by ObamaCare, and make his re-election bid that much harder.
That’s why Harry will have to be dragged kicking and screaming to bring it to a vote. Fortunately, we have some very hard-headed and hard-nosed Republicans in the Senate who just might be able to force him to.
If Dem’s weren’t so afraid of Obamacare passing in the senate, then someone needs to ask Pelosi what the Dog & Pony Show was that she held on Tuesday with Clayburn, Hoyer, herself, and a bunch of hardcore Liberals doing listening to a handful of “Americans” who swear by Obamacare, even the college kid who couldn’t afford to go to College and pay for his Medical Bills but doesn’t have a JOB !!!
I truly believe that if there’s a will for McConnell to force Reid to hold a up/Down vote he will do it because there’s 24 Dem’s that more than likely McConnell can drag atleast half of them to his side and repeal Obamacare in the Senate and put it on Obama’s Desk by the end of next week leaving it up to Obama to veto & basically sign his own Pink Slip. If the Senate repeals Obamacare like the House did, I believe there’s a greater chance Obama signs it and repeals Pelosi & Reid to seal his own re-election bid. so long as he knows there’s most all of the good things in the bill in the replacement Bill Republicans put into the new HC Bill. Things like no Cap on Insurance, no pre-existing conditions, and limit tort claims like Texas does in their State. and throw the rest of it out with the bath water.
If he vetoes it he will immediately face a primary challenge and probably a 3rd party run in 2012.

The more premiums you are willing to pony up, the more they are willing to insure you for. “no cap on insurance” has to go with “no cap on premiums”, no? Otherwise, everyone has to pay more premiums to insure those who need “extraodinary” coverages.
“no pre-existing conditions” No one will buy insurance coverage until they need major medical expenses. At present, people pay thousands of dollars for insurance coverage when they are healthy so they could use the insurance when the big one comes. “no pre-existing conditions” means you only need to buy coverage when you found out you are in deep do-do. “no pre-existing conditions” could only go with extra-high “catastrophic insurance” premiums.

I am so tired of the lie that people will wait until they are sick to get insurance. For four and a half years, I was desperate to obtain insurance, and was repeatedly denied because of a history of cancer, and Medicaid, under which I was insured until well enough to return to work, does not qualify as a government plan for guaranteed issue if a pre-existing condition exists. So I was denied even the opportunity to pay for any kind of insurance for myself. With income exceeding the guidelines for sCHIP, I applied to BCBS for an individual policy for my son, who was denied solely because he was a minor. Long and short: I couldn’t afford the repetitive batteries of blood tests, xrays, CT scans, etc. for followup to the cancer care, and by the time it was accidentally found to have recurred, it was pretty far advanced.
Very sorry to hear about your plight. That would never happen in a free market. Insurance companies would have to sell us health insurance that cannot be dropped. We, as direct consumers in a free market, would insist on it. Why would we ever by a policy that they can drop us from if we change jobs or whatever? We wouldn’t pay a dime for that. And, without the states dictating the terms of the policies, instead of us as the consumers, the insurance companies would have to sell us what we want.
If insurance companies had to insure consumers on our terms, then they might also advocate consumer friendly reforms in the healthj care arena. For example, they might lead the way in advocating the end of the laws that are on the books in most states that require government permission to establish or expand a hostpial or other medical fecility. These laws exist solely to curb competition in the health care sector, and as a bribery machine for politicians; all at the expense of the health care consumer.
We should be seeking free markets, like Americans used to do when they still knew what those were. We should not just be suggesting different government controls on consumers and businesses. Give freedom a chance. It hasn’t been tried in a long time.

It is not a lie, it is logical thinking. I’m talking about the healthy people who are not sick, yet. What incentives do they have to buy insurance when they know they could always buy it when they are sick?
That doesn’t mean we should stay with our pre-Obamacare system. We pay a regular premium to cover auto and home-owner insurance, then we buy an umbrella policy to cover the unexpected. Why don’t we have insurance to cover our health, then an umbrella/catastrophic to cover the unforeseen? The problem with our pre-Obamacare was when one losses ones job, one has no insurance. We should have a system that we could buy insurance on our own. Then each one of us could buy a regular health insurance, and/or catastrophic coverage. And no cap for catastrophic coverage. Those who have pre-existing conditions and no pre-existing insurance have to pay a higher premium.

I wonder how much those Democratic Senators in Red States really want to keep their jobs? If Reid doesn’t let the bill come up for a vote, the public will not only be angry, but the voters in those red states will simply assume that those Democratic Senators were going to vote against repeal, without giving them a chance to vote for repeal (like Ben Nelson from Nebraska). I think, either way, the Democratic Senators in those red states are sunk. And that’s a good thing.

Obama has clearly been a fool in many respects, and I sincerely hope that he can exit the presidency with a modicum of respect from us citizens. He has no hope in hell of winning a second term…none. They would need a 2/3 vote in each house (67 in the Senate) to override a veto, but it would still be humiliating for Obama/Reed to have a repeal pass the Senate regardless of whether it could hold up to a veto.
To me, the question of the hour is: supposing the Senate were to pass the repeal measure, would Obama dare to veto it? After all, he’s claimed to have refocused on “jobs;” would he defend his verified job-killer of a health care bill even so?
My guess is: Yes, he’d veto the repeal bill. He values his position, and he’s anxious to retain some chips for the upcoming legislative battles, to say nothing of the 2012 elections. But his ego would take first priority — and he truly does consider ObamaCare his “signature achievement.”
I agree — he’d veto. He will also campaign with the claim, “The Republicans tore it down but offered nothing in its place.” The metaphor will be slicker and more developed than that, offering many pauses for laughter, but it will be just as much a lie.

Of course they can’t override Obama’s veto. We probably can’t even get a vote in the Senate for it.
But by repeatedly sending this bill to the Senate, say, every two months or so, we can watch WHO votes HOW and publicize that for the upcoming election. If the Senate actually approves repeal, then we can sent it to Obama for a veto, say, every couple months until November of 2012.
The idea is to impress upon folks that most of us want this nightmare repealed, and there’s a small group of people blocking the door. The people will know what to do come election day.

Both of my Senators are Democrats. That being said, after the House passed the Repeal yesterday, I went ahead and sent a note to both of them asking that they insist that the Senate Leadership allow Repeal to move forward in their body. The only way Harry Reid is going to move this is if he gets pressure from his fellow Democrat Senators.
Sure Obama may veto. But he may not. Regardless, we deserve the right to see how the votes come out in the Senate and whether the President will go against the wishes of the citizens of the U.S. if it makes it to his desk. If he vetoes, there is no reason we can’t send it to him again.

A reply to #28 on natural born citizen. The definition holds that both parents are citizens. It is undeniable that Obama’s father was a citizen of Kenya and thus a subject of Great Britain.
