Blast from the green past

Just remember, amid all these new calls for civility, no one on the left thought this ad was over the top — even though it advocated murdering global warming skeptics.

    Indeed.

  2. 2. sule

    Wow.

This from lefties who lecture conservatives on every topic imaginable, including how leftists are sooooooo tolerant. Catch that phrase, “no pressure…”

    What a steaming pile.

  3. 3. Allan E.

This is the Lefts attitude on everything. Not just the environment. Just look at their attempt to co-opt the Tuscon Massacre. If it can be made to serve their cause then it must be good.

  4. 4. LaurieK

Ah, the civility of Lefty rhetoric…

  5. 5. Bill Johnson

Im sorry, you are operating under a misunderstanding. This _IS_ civility from the left. Too bad theyre barbarians…

  6. 6. nohype

The people who delight in using the word “Teabagger” now lecture us on civil discourse and wonder why they are not taken seriously.

  7. 7. Otis B. Driftwood

To the left, “civil discourse” means that we should stop disagreeing with their agenda. It especially means we should quit telling people what is their agenda’s ultimate outcome. Likewise, a “nation dialog/conversation on ________” means that everyone else should STFU while they scold, lecture, and call vile names.

Even the people who don’t pay attention are beginning to catch on.

  8. 8. Mister Snitch!

Yes, the left feels total conformity is the way to go. It’s sad and frightening.

On the other hand, independent thinking is not exactly welcomed with open arms on the right, either. Sites like this have litmus tests as well.

“Just remember, amid all these new calls for civility, no one on the left thought this ad was over the top — even though it advocated murdering global warming skeptics.”

Umm, “no one” isn’t quite accurate. IIRC, there were plenty on the left that believed that ad was offensive. Shortly after the video went viral on the interwebs, the video was pulled from the Project 1010 website due to the controversy it started.

Now, if you want to argue that it takes an unstable mind to make a video like that

    • Steve Skubinna

It’s also worth remembering that of – how many? at least a hundred – people involved in making and distributing this PSA, not one suggested they were crossing a line. Everyone involved was fine with it.

And the “apology” was the standard boilerplate about “We’re sorry you ignorant masses are too stupid to appreciate our wit.”

There can be no doubt they still think murdering those who argue with them is the right path, they have just learned not to mention it openly.

  10. 10. Larvell Blanks

I assumed it was a parody satirizing the smugness of the global warming crowd. If I was going to do a parody, I would have done it EXACTLY the same way.

    • snork

That’s the disturbing/astonishing thing. It isn’t parody. Life is nastier than fiction.

And as Iowahawk mentioned, this must have taken upward of 100 progressives to produce, and it apparently didn’t occur to a single one that there was anything wrong with it.

  11. 11. davidstanley

Bear in mind that it was for a U.K. audience so the context is a bit different. We don’t tend to shoot our politicians much although the Irish are pretty good at blowing them up. Also we seem to like Americans more than you like each other according to the statistics. And yes,we do have a sick sense of humour, why do you think we sent you Piers Morgan?

    • Thomas

If this were a parody then the argument that the creators simply had a sick sense of humor might apply. Unfortunately it is not a parody, it is a violent rejection of the concept of freedom of conscience.

  12. 12. Milwaukee

Did you notice that the school children and office workers who were offed were just a little less than attractive? The pretty, cool kids had the “right” ideas, and the dissenters were definitely not so pretty. Considering the time and effort that went into this, that wasn’t an accident. The footballer and pretty face doing the voice over demonstrate that even celebrity status won’t save you.

I found this quote: “We ‘killed’ five people to make No Pressure – a mere blip compared to the 300,000 real people who now die each year from climate change,” Franny Armstrong told the Telegraph.

Two students and three office workers would be the five people. Don’t the stars count as people? Those famous people are “Featuring a cast including film star Gillian Anderson and England footballer Peter Crouch…”

  13. They realized it was over the top, withdrew it, and apologized:

    http://www.1010global.org/uk/2010/10/sorry

Contrast that to Sarah Palin’s lame “surveyor’s mark” dodge.

    • snork

Because all hell broke loose, and, unlike the Palin ad, this actually WAS violent.

      Moron.

    • Milwaukee

No, they didn’t realize their eliminationist video was over the top. They wanted to revive global warming issue and “to find a way to bring this critical issue back into the headlines whilst making people laugh.” Further, lots of people worked on this, both on screen and in support, without realizing how offensive it was. But then “Many people found the resulting film extremely funny, but unfortunately some didn’t and we sincerely apologise to anybody we have offended.”

They apologized for offending people, not for producing an offensive video. They have not disavowed murdering people who won’t cut their carbon footprints. Palin denounced violence: they didn’t. They’re just sorry the rest of us couldn’t see what good fun their video was.

    • nohype

“Contrast that to Sarah Palin’s lame “surveyor’s mark” dodge.”

Except that is exactly what the symbol is. The cross hairs of a gun sight do not extend beyond the border of a gun sight–have you ever looked through a rifle scope? The unicode consortium calls the character “Position Indicator” and says it is equivalent to “Exact Location.” Check the unicode consortium, the 2300 block of characters, or http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/2316/index.htm.

Sarah Palin published a map that used a standard mapping character exactly as it is supposed to be used, and for that she is accused of inciting murder. It is time for the Left to stop the hate.

  14. 14. Evil Otto

    Skippy:

They realized it was over the top, withdrew it, and apologized

They realized it was “over the top” (y’know, with the images of people being messily murdered for daring to question the global warming dogma) only after it was released and people were outraged. Too little, too late.

Contrast that to Sarah Palin’s lame “surveyor’s mark” dodge.

SARAH PALIN!!! Hmm… I’m not sure what she has to do with the subject at hand but LOOK OVER THERE IT’S SARAH PALIN!!!. I wouldn’t want to think you were trying to distract, Skip, by mentioning OMG SARAH PALIN OMG WTF!!!

    • Steve Skubinna

Arguing with a leftist is like dealing with a paranoid with Tourette’s. As soon as they get in over their head it’s “SARAH PALIN!!! BARK BARK! RUSH LIMBAUGH!!! BUGGER IT! GLENN BECK!!!! SHIT!”

  15. 15. NikFromNYC

The elephant in the room is the finally speakable fact that those who lead the Global Warming alarmist complex allowed theory to trump physical data until their science became utterly politicized instead of empirical. Now it’s a cult that takes everything as proof of the End of the World. What they don’t put on the covers if their reports are actual thermometer records that go back 350 years. They show that modern warming is a totally boring exact continuation of the natural trend that existed far before the age of fossile fuels. I plotted them on one little “postcard” here: http://oi49.tinypic.com/rc93fa.jpg

Isn’t there a major difference between sincere swashbuckling posturing and downright fraud that attempts to withold energy from aspiring populations everywhere? Which character fault actually kills real people?

    • Steve Skubinna

Ah, but it doesn’t kill anyone the urban elites know personally, so no biggie. Plus they get to chatter about how much more “authentic” and “spiritual” the Third World lifestyle is.

To a leftist, abject poverty, disease, political corruption, oppression, ignorance and filth are ennobling. So long, of course, as they happen to Third Worlders.

  16. 16. annoyed

@ Davidstanley; Piers Morgan isn’t all that bad. What I want to know is why you you sent that boor Richard Brand here! You folks couldn’t stomach him either?

  17. 17. gus3

“Piers Morgan isn’t all that bad.” In comparison to WHAT?!?

  18. 18. Tman

Didn’t this video come out before the Discovery Channel would-be bomber James Jay Lee?

I remember the right specifically NOT blaming extreme environmentalists for Lee’s action. Here’s a quote from Malkin on the September 2 edition of Fox & Friends-

“MALKIN: I’m going to do something that my enemies and opponents on the other side rarely do, and that is to make clear that Al Gore is not responsible for this. An Inconvenient Truth certainly is an incitement to stupidity and an incitement to massive, costly government intervention, but it is not, and it was never intended be, an incitement to violence.”

If you were an idiot, it would be a lot easier to tie responsibility somehow from Lee to something like this Green Murder video. But even still it wouldn’t make them “responsible”.

Hypocrisy and the left know no bounds.

  19. 19. Noah Nehm

Blogger Mark Shea has noted that, perhaps due to the coarsening of our culture, the gradual movement away from admonition in public service announcements – “Buckle up for safety” – to implied threats – “Click it or Ticket”. This, to me, another step in the process. The Left is merely taking their desire to control every aspect of public life to the extreme, which requires a greater level of coercion and threat. It’s a long long way from “Every litter bit hurts”….

I have been reading this rather vile lefty comic for a while now:

    http://comics.com/minimum_security/2011-01-14/

It concerns the violent and hateful fantasies of one Stephanie McMillan. In the current plot line, which has been playing out throughout the entire Jared Loughner media meltdown, the eco-terrorist protagonists have been apprehended in the act of planting a bomb. However, the police officer detaining them has just mysteriously dropped dead with a gory head wound (dont worry — he deserved it). Meanwhile, the bomb is about to blow! Whatever will happen to our heros next?

No doubt that this obscure little comic would be roundly denounced as aberrant were it to receive wide exposure. However, it is worth noting that it is syndicated by United Media and shares a spot along side Peanuts and Marmaduke at the mainstream site comics.com. Just another little example of violent lefty eliminationist rhetoric.

Some prominent Republican should point to stuff prominent Democrats have done recently and just say that the whole civility thing is bulls**t.
