After nearly 10 years of anonymous essaying at Asia Times Online and two years of editing and writing at First Things and the better part of the year writing a book (How Civilizations Die), I have donned the new uniform of die-hard conservatism–namely pajamas. Many thanks to Roger Simon for his kind invitation to blog here. I join a cadre of writers whom I read and respect, including my good friend Michael Ledeen, the redoubtable Victor Davis Hanson, the incisive Claudia Rosett, and others whose company I am honored to share.
Don’t miss my follow-up post here at PJM, “Israel’s economic protests are the best news ever.”

I’m chuffed to see you here, Mr. Goldman.
Not going to say first… not going to do it.
Excellent!
Will this be in addition to his Asia Times column?
What a great choice to have you along. My thanks to PJM, and especially to Roger Simon.
I plan to continue writing my Asia Times column.
Welcome sir! I have read and loved [mostly
] your writings at Asia Times Online and First Things for years. With you joining PJM many of my favorite bloggers are now at one place, bravo!
PJM is just getting better and better, and thank you Roger Simon!
P.S. We will be able to access and enjoy your older writings at the other sites I hope, some readers at PJM may not have had the chance to do so.
Again, Welcome! Rifle308
Spengler:
Welcome!
That means I can get (almost) all my favorite conservative writers in one place! Sounds like another reordering of my browser bookmarks is in order.
‘The Israeli left isn’t stupid ‘
No,they’re suicidal.Even the IDF has gotten into the act.
The IDF’s recommendations include allowing several mitigations vis-à-vis the Palestinian Authority and its security forces, mainly allowing more weapons into the West Bank from Jordan. From YNET today.
As the Arab,Islamic world are busy with what they do best, their internecine carnage lets not forget that one thing would unite them rather quickly,a mother of all wars against Israel and the ‘infidel’ Jews.
As the citizens of Syria call for the death of Assad if he knows his days are numbered he can kill two birds with one stone, strike Israel and let Israel strike back his ungrateful citizens for him.
That’s the Arab mindset.
A perfect time to hit would be when Israel is distracted inspecting the accumulation of lint in their navel.
I would greatly appreciate an RSS feed of your articles here. THANK YOU!
Happy to see you here! I’ve followed you often on Asia Times. Though you sometimes get your predictions wrong (much less so than the NY Times…), you’re always unconventional and thought provoking. PJM just got itself a great reenforcement.
Welcome aboard. You are oft quoted by Belmont Club followers; what a great addition to PJM.
Smartest man on the planet! Welcome home, Spengler.
Welcome! I’m a big fan. What a stable of talent we got shaping up @ Pajamas Media!
Roger,
I’m pleased you got Spengler.
Now, if you can only pull Steven DenBeste out of retirement…..
How wonderful! I’ve always enjoyed your work.
Ditto Omar @ 11
Started reading in ’05. It is unlikely that many here (that haven’t read Spengler) will go back to the archives to see what they have missed. Herewith some samples to inspire digging in the archives:

Marvelous mind and mischevious as all get-out.
Love reading him just for the exercise. I feel smarter after the workout.
There are three people I have followed on the internet for years and for whom I have great respect.
Richard Fernandez. David P. Goldman. Victor David Hanson.
We have been blessed they are now all here.
Alphabetical order.
Great news! Welcome.
This site gets better all of the time. Welcome Mr. Goldman!
Yea!! Bout time you got noticed.
Excellent! Good to see you here, Spengler. I’ve followed you for a while now, and while you have, it must be admitted, been wrong about a few things, it is always in good and informative way. While I cannot second the idea of you as the smartest guy around, you are certainly one of the least dumb and that about the best anyone can hope for. In the Kingdom of the blind … As iron sharpeneth iron … etc.
(Aside: I would also second the return the Steven den Beste, but he has fallen far too deeply into the black hole of anime otaku, so … )
Welcome indeed. I’ve learned a lot from reading your articles on Asia Times over the years and am glad that you will now be read by many more through PJM.
Very pleasing!
Spengler: I try to read everything you write. Do you plan to continue your Inner Workings blog at atimes.net?
Wow – I feel different seeing Spengler at PJM – will take some getting used to. He is the best! What a catch for PJM, which is a great site in its own right. Off to edit my Blackberry favorites…
Welcome Mr. Goldman,
I’ve been reading Spengler for several years now. Thank you for your insightful essays and thought provoking commentary.
Regards,
R
I am so glad I did not shut down without a last stop for tonite at PJM.
Spengler always makes my day, and I am glad to now also find you here, hoping to add an extra smile each week.
Just in case Roger Simon is reading this, what happened to Benjamin Kerstein?
I miss his essays.
He’s been writing a novel. I have just forwarded this comment to him. I suspect he’ll be back.
Thank you Roger.
I don’t suppose you could get Noah Pollak to get back to writing? I know his work for ECI is important, but I REALLY miss Pollak, a smidgeon more than I miss Kerstein.
Welcome, Spengler. I’ve been a reader of yours for quite some time now.
Welcome, Spengler!
I followed you at Asia Times, and I have always loved your commentary.
I hope this works out at pajamas.
Always a fan,
Cowboy
This is a great addition to the PJM line-up. It’s now the “Murderer’s Row” of punditicy.
Won’t escape me here either, sir…….XPPP……..
Glad you have a blog here. I can put the Belmont Club back in my favourites, too, while I’m at it. Been such a long time……
Mr. Simon – How about an occasional forum featuring several of the PJM Express columnists?
I’ve been reading your essays for years in Asia Times, looking forward to more essays here.
Welcome.
Now I won’t have to going chasing around the Web as PJM is cornering the market.
Spengler at PJM! Very welcome news indeed!
Welcome, David. It’s good to have another former Asia Times writer here. I assume that your motivation was similar to mine, i.e., finding PJM more ideologically compatible. Although I have to admit that Tony has been willing to run opposition viewpoints if they are well written – like this example from the other day:
http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Global_Economy/MH16Dj06.html
I’m delighted that you are here. It was already a pleasure to read your analysis on atimes. Welcome !
Welcome Spengler. We used to chew over your articles when Alan Sullivan was alive with his wonderful “Seablogger”.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUyutryL_SY&feature=player_embedded
Keiser interviews William K Black and retreads the British riots.
As a welcome gift may I offer you a growing trend subject for consideration and future exposure. Market news seems to have usurped the cornerstone priority of GNP sweat equity as involved in “earned” as opposed to “derived” indicating the investments promoted in all TV media. Statistics validate that parasitic market movers and shakers directing its trends compose less than 1 % of population as opposed to 15 to 20 % involved in actual real production.
Have any of said parasites ever worked anything other than their own private legislated monopoly schemes having a single requirement providing either real grass roots spending or taxation from any source for “chips” in their game?
Without being specific the following statement assay promises a mother lode of contagious financial disease with “earned” masquerading as “derived”. (http://www.usconstitution.net/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=debarch08;action=print;num=1206370851) Clinton wasn’t the first to concoct new word definitions..
“When you get rid of the estate tax,” he told Obama in their private chat, “you’re basically handing over command of the country’s resources to people who didn’t earn it.”
If not prepared to delve into such taboo subject matter, feel free to pass the buck to your newly acquired associates and watch them squirm. After 50+ years of perusing weeklies I can chew almost anything.
I’m glad you’re here
I’m a fan! Glad that you’ve come to PJM. With first-rate authors like Spengler, Wretchard, Victor Davis Hanson, etc. the caliber of PJM has become very impressive.
Spengler, I’ve greatly enjoyed your great work over at Asia Times. I’m happy to see you here at PJM. Best of luck!
A question for David Goldman~
Has Spengler read the psycho-political cultural insights of drsanity? (Just google the name to reach her website.)
In Spengler, I think PJM just struck the mother lode. Thanks for all you’ve written in the past. Can’t wait to see the next chapters. And finally a venue where I can comment.:-)
A minute spent reading Spengler is never a minute ill-spent. A brilliant past; my best wishes for continued success at PJM!
Wow.
Asia Times Online’s most astute observer.
Welcome, Sir!

This is great news! Your addition certainly fleshes out PJM’s already formidable stable of contributors. Now if we can just get Pepe to bust a similar move…
Os,
Can I call ya Os ..? I used to consider reading Spengler an essential part of my job.
I was delighted when you joined First Things. It was the best thing that could have happened to that great mag at that time.
And now you’re here? Great again.
But that leaves me a little concerned for First Things. This is a loss; a big one.
But good for PJ, and the domain of readers here. Looking forward to the book coming out, and would like to see more about it.
Aha! We know the identity of Spengler at last! You were the only reason I ever laid eyes on the Asian Times in the first place. Also, the Belmont Club had changed URL back some time ago so it is an epiphany to discover it again and also Spengler is now revealed! Huzzah!
This website now goes back on my links list where it belongs…
