Iran is next. Khameini is inviting an attack. The reason for attacking Gaza is precisely the strengthening of Hamas and Hezbollah by Iran. It is only a matter of months until either Hamas, Hezbollah or both have, at the minimum, a dirty bomb. Because the Israeli government perceives Obama as a de facto pacifist, time is also of the essence on that score.
I’m puzzled by what exactly Israel has done by way of recognizing the existence of a viable Palestinian state.
Frightening times. I am dismayed that so many peaceniks, including many in my own family, cannot seem to understand that Israel has absolutely no choice but to fight back. I lived in Israel during the years of the Oslo disaster, I went to peace rallies and shouted myself hoarse with the “peace camp” half of the population. I was in Israeli uniform doing guard duty the night Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated, and I wept openly, unashamedly, for the murder of a military hero who was not afraid to stretch out the hand of peace. Unfortunately, everything the “crazy” Israeli right wing said about the intentions of Arafat and the Palestinian leadership turned out to be true. We stretched out the hand of peace and got it cut off. And now Iran and its proxies are feverishly working to set up nuclear gas chambers. God help us all save Israel and all of civilization.
Does bulldozing homes, cutting off access to food, water, energy supplies and work while building homes for 250,000+ Israelis religious fanatic “settlers” demonstrate how one “stretched out the hand of peace and got it cut off”?
It would appear more and more likely that this issue will be Obamas first test. It seems unlikely this will be resolved in a few weeks and then finally Obama will have to make a decision and stand by his own word. I can see where this could be the first time in his life he will actually have to do that.
He will not personally suffer the direct consequences of his actions but will experience the effect of his final action. Up till now I doubt he has ever had to put his reputation, his opinion or his intellect on the line, let alone his own ass.
Then we may begin to assess the “stuff” he is made of. However……
He could follow the Clinton model,ie take credit if it succeeds or blame it on your Secretary of State if it fails.
World War II never ended; it is still being fought in the Middle East. Muslim Arabs are trying to bring about Hitler’s Final Solution, cheered on by their co-religionists in the US, while not-very-useful idiots wring their hands and whine that Israel should make only a “proportional response.” God bless Israel.
