A Foreign Policy Wish for the New Year
Fouad Ajami has given us all the column of the year — required reading for all of us and, hopefully, for the White House on the day before the new year commences. The academic and State Department “realists” — actually those oblivious to reality — have had their ideological depiction of the state of the world shattered this past year. The people of Iran are on the verge of revolution, and yet President Barack Obama gives out the signal that he hopes John Kerry’s proposal that he travel to Iran will save the administration’s policy of engagement. As Ajami writes: “In the time of Barack Obama, ‘engagement’ with Iran’s theocrats and thugs trumps the cause of Iranian democracy.”
The diplomacy of freedom evident in the years of George W. Bush — a man so unjustly hated by the liberal political establishment — has been replaced by a trust in the tactic of diplomacy, to the exclusion of any support to the apostles of freedom. The Dali Lama is not welcomed in the White House, since deals with China stand above any support to the people of Tibet.
The Cuban people still suffer under the tyranny established by the Castro brothers. In place of any open support to the dissidents the regime continually beats up, imprisons, and tortures, feelers are put out by leading Democrats that now is the time to ease our pressure on the regime and to engage the Cuban oppressors. The dissidents throughout the world know that Barack Obama is not on their side. As the Iranian protestors continually ask him, “Are you on our side or that of the mullahs?” Unfortunately, they know the answer too well. Ajami quotes the now famous statement made by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton: “Ideology is so yesterday.” It may be for her and the administration; unfortunately, it is not the case for the mullahs or the Castros and the rulers of Syria.
Ajami bemoans the fact that President Obama has “declared a unilateral end to the ‘war on terror.’” Perhaps — and I emphasize that perhaps — the events of the past week have given him pause, and those who termed it a simple opposition to “man-caused disasters” will be demoted or fired — but don’t put any bets on it. The administration just today released a statement attacking the recent comments of Vice-President Dick Cheney. Instead of ignoring him, their tactic of past weeks, they have responded — probably realizing that the public instinctively realizes there is more truth in his words than in the actions our president has taken. It is almost as if, as Ajami says, he was the real enemy and not the terrorists.
We are in a war with radical Islam. Will President Obama accept this reality? Our nation’s future depends on the correct answer. Or will he bring his own administration and the Democratic majority in Congress to a crashing end, making him a failed one-term president? Let us pray that this new year will bring new policies to the White House, and that American power and leadership will be restored.

“Let us pray that this New Year will bring new policies to the White House, and that American power and leadership will be restored.”
Americans had better get on our knees and pray from the early morning hours to the touch of midnight. Things don’t look very good. We are asking God to perform a near miracle. And I am not someone merely trying for a cheap laugh. I am dead serious. Barack Obama is too poorly educated. He is not even close to being able to handle his presidential responsibilities. There is simply no logical reason to expect a significant improvement within the next three years. He is too far behind the curve. Some people reading my words might tend to dismiss me as an “Obama hater,” or as someone inclined to exaggerate. Well, let’s hope they are right. God help us if my negative conclusions are right on target.
Obama received a second rate Ivy League education. The con game has been going on for decades. A number of our major universities like Cornell have had affirmative action policies in place since the early to mid 1960s! The damage over a period of some 45 years has been mind-boggling. We have the right—and perhaps even the moral obligation to consider all Ivy League soft science graduates as idiots until proven otherwise.
Barry Obambi just seems to be so detached from the lives of ordinary Americans. During this latest fiasco with the “underbomber” it took Barry three days to say something and then when he did his address to the nation started out with “HEY GUYS”. It’s as if he had just come in from the back nine and was upset at being disturbed before he had finished his golf game. The only time Barry really seems to be engaged is when he is on the attack against 1)conservatives 2)George Bush 3)Dick Cheney 4) Sarah Palin 5) tea party participants and 6)George Bush. Any way he tries to spin this attack he can’t hide the fact that it occurred on his watch, with people he appointed and the failure stopped on his desk. Watching him squirm in the spotlight is fun but the serious nature of the matter at hand takes away from any enjoyment and causes Americans to be more afraid today then yesterday. And what about tomorrow? We’re at war with Islamic Terrorists but Barry doesn’t buy that and until he does, if he ever does, we’re in deep trouble.
Even now these clowns, sorry nit wits (clowns can be humorous) are looking for comparative incidents, that they “hope” happened under Bush, to use as a negative defense of this regime’s incompetence. They have no positive defense for their failures. Even if they have to declassify sensitive material they will. As with most problems that have had the nerve to persist even in the glow of Obama’s awesomeness, this too is part of The Bush conspiracy. I don’t think there is any “statute of limitations” to how long every problem is Bush’s fault. To this regime even if the Christmas attack had succeeded, it would be merely a political problem to be spun, the only tragic quality, the potential damage to Obama’s image. The only incentive for Obama to consider terrorism an actual threat would be his perception that jihadists are trying to make him look bad.
This isn’t some failure of “academic education” his world view is based on his “community organizing” and other leftist associations. His “teachers, idols and mentors” didn’t perceive and therefore didn’t discuss “Islamic Jihadism’s” role in oppressing the masses. Not unless and not until Islamic terrorists become a threat to his political power do they become a threat to America.
Bush’s major error in releasing Yemeni Gitmo prisoners to the Saudis, in response to all those who wanted to close Gitmo down, gives Obama the opportunity to do what he frequently does: Blame Bush. Here is the President’s chance to blame his predecessor and then tell the public, “I am going to reverse the failed Bush policy of releasing Gitmo prisoners and keep all remaining prisoners including KSM right where they are.” Don’t bet on it.
You think the President should make the Green Revolution about him? What about all the decrying of his celebrity? You can’t have it both ways. Ahmedinejad and Khamenei are waiting eagerly for the Americans to chime in so that they can discredit the protester as American puppets, and the people will believe them. This way they are exposed as ruthless autocrats more and more every day.
What did the high-minded military “diplomacy” of Bush II give us? Nearly 5,000 dead Americans and a ruined reputation. What has been the outcome of 8 years of Cheney and the Patriot Act making a mockery of American values? Bin Laden remains at large, Iraq is ripe to become a battleground between the Saudis and Iran once again, China’s geopolitical clout continues to rise, and terrorists can still sneak bombs onto air planes. But you call for more of the same? Will you people never learn?
There is no one in the current administration with even an ounce of leadership – Barry wouldn’t have it. “President” Obumble himself has no concept of “leadership by example”, because he’s never been in a position of leadership, has no experience with leadership, and fails to recognize the NEED for leadership. Our current “president” has no concept of foreign policy, history, economics, or just about anything else except “community organizing” and dirty politics. The majority of the people elected him because they thought having a black president would be “cool”. When you elect an unqualified, unprepared, and incapable person to high office, it doesn’t eliminate the fact that they’re unqualified, unprepared, and incapable of performing. We’re now paying the high price of doing something because it’s “cool” instead of because it’s the best choice possible. My only prayer is that the cost won’t be TOO high in either lives or treasure.
