Here are some of my first thoughts on the evident Democratic victory—obtaining the 60 necessary votes to pass the Reid health care bill. As I sit completely snowed in a storm of blizzard proportions, which will keep me homebound for at least three to four days, I watched both Harry Reid’s morning press conference and the response later by Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

First, Reid candidly explained how what he called the political process of legislating led to the special treatment on Medicaid given to the state of Nebraska. Because many poor states will find that that the expansion of this program in the new bill will mean that they cannot meet the necessary funding that comes from their own state budgets, they will be in danger of a major shortfall or bankruptcy, thereby having to increase state taxes to cover the difference.

Now, however, the bill singles out Nebraska for very special treatment. As today’s New York Times reports, “The amendment also includes a special extension solely for Nebraska: increased federal contributions to the cost of an expansion of Medicaid, the state-federal insurance program for the poor.” The effect of this is that unlike other states, Nebraskans will not have to worry about how to fund the increased cost of Medicaid expansion in their state—forever!

Moreover, as Reihan Salam points out, “Nebraska is a relatively low-poverty state, with a poverty rate of 10.6 percent of households. Fifteen other states have lower poverty rates while thirty-five have higher poverty rates. Yet it seems that Nebraska, by virtue of its impressively stubborn Democratic senator, will receive unusually generous treatment.”

Here comes tyranny! (But, for your own good!) Enjoy! (Guess who aren’t getting re-elected… if we have elections in 2010, that is.)

  2. 2. David Thomson

Humble pie will apparently be served to me on Christmas morning. It turns out that the Democrats probably will pass some sort of health care bill—-even though the polls show that most of America’s likely voters are opposed! Our only hope is that Senator Jim Webb of Virginia might want to become a national hero. Senator Ben Nelson has committed political suicide as well as every other Democratic senator in a purple or red state who votes for this monstrosity. There are indications that even Senator Patty Murray of the supposedly safe blue state of Washington is in trouble. The odds are that the Democrats have destroyed their national prospects for minimally the next two election cycles. They are secure in only the bluest areas of the United States. These fools have conned themselves into believing the American people will be converted over to enthusiastically supporting their vision of heavy government involvement in health care. They will pay an awful price for their arrogance.
It is even a decent possibility possible that we are witnessing the actual destruction of the Democratic Party.

“(Guess who aren’t getting re-elected… if we have elections in 2010, that is.)”

Barack Obama reminds me of Benito Mussolini. He is a very arrogant and narcissistic man. Obama will not hesitate to grab power illegally and become a benevolent dictator. After all, he will have to do so because the disgusting Republican conservatives are leading the common folk astray. Yup, there is indeed a good chance that he will find some excuse to cancel elections in 2010. We are living in a very frightening time. Never before since George Gallup turned polling into a sort of science in the mid 1930s has there been a situation where legislators pushed through a bill that the majority of likely voters oppose. This is uncharted territory.

  4. 4. Yes We Did

All of this was settled last November. President Obama rules this country now and the racist white males who opposed Him will never get another chance.

There is much more to come, racists. It is time to just shut up and pay the appropriate reparations for your past oppressions.

  5. 5. Samizdat

Last weekend I thought it a fait accompli. On Weds I wasn’t sure I was right. Then Mr Nelson was bought off and now socialized, mandated, likely unconstitutional, national healthcare will become law.

The Democrats are going to pay one hell of a price for this legislation. When the new taxes hit there will be intense voter anger. People who didn’t understand the bill or had a romantic image of it will join the rest of us in protest. There will be standing for thousands of law suits as soon as the new taxes take effect. Because of the substantial federal question and the money involved the jurisdiction of the federal court system will be triggered. District court judges will issue conflicting opinions as to whether the legislation passes constitutional muster. The Supreme Court will ultimately have to decide the issues presented.

Meanwhile the average taxpayer will be left to sort out survival and calculate the best way to move forward. In many purple jurisdictions that will mean terminating Democrat representation. The retribution will be intense and probably on a scale none of us have witnessed before.

The current administration doesn’t realize that it is likely politically doomed. Unemployment will likely go up, not down. The productive are now being penalized like they haven’t been since the 1930′s. They are not going to put up with less without a fight. The opposition has been handed a dream scenario by the unwitting Democrats which it will exploit after coordinating with an aroused and alarmed majority.

Elections have consequences. Be careful of what you wish for, you just might get it. There is going to be hell to pay.

PS: To David Thomas above at #3, there will be elections and they are going to go very badly for the Democrats. Very, very badly. This is not western Europe, no matter how much the marxists who dreamed up this healthcare debacle delude themselves that it is. In 11 months they will know my words are true. They will come to regret this decision heartily.

  6. 6. David Thomson

“To David Thomas above at #3, there will be elections and they are going to go very badly for the Democrats. Very, very badly.”

We are on the same page. This is indeed the likely scenario. Still, one has to wonder if there might be a secret plan to call off elections in 2010. One cannot completely rule this out. Can the Democrats truly be this stupid? Have they perhaps been smoking some really good weed? Once again, it appears that the Democrats will not be a viable national party for minimally the next few election cycles! Nancy Pelosi may be safely ensconced in a blue state district—but this is definitely not true of those purple and red state legislators.

I would like to make a couple of comments to #4 above. Yes, Mr. Obama was elected as the President of the United States. He was elected to serve the country in his position, not rule the country. And I am sadden by the racist comments. I noticed your name is listed as “Yes we did”. With such comments why don’t you at least put your name to it and be accountable for what you write. I was born in 1950 and I am not sure what past oppressions I am responsible for. It seems to me that you are not agreeing with some of what President Obama is saying, “get past it”. And my like or dislike of what congress and any President put forth is not based on their race, it is based on what I feel is right and wrong. I just don’t agree with a 2,000 page health care bill of which many have not read or understand. And if the politicians don’t know what is in the bill, how are we the people to even understand the same.

I’ve gotten used to overconfidence by the Right, followed by whining.

“How could the Democrats be so dumb as to go along with our Permanent Republican Majority’s campaign finance bill?” Time passes. “What, they’re using a loophole? How unethical!”

Waaay too many people were crowing that Obamacare was dead.

And now that it’s apparently going to pass, waaay too many people are assuming that it will automatically resurrect the Permanent Republican Majority.

Is the Stupid Party earning its name yet again?

Assuming that your opponents’ incompetence will return you to power is not much of a strategery.
    ***********
Lest I be misconstrued as a leftist partisan (I am in fact a dispirited conservative/libertarian), let me wonder how the careers of the Ted Stevens prosecutors have been faring.

I mean the people who secured the conviction that created the Democrats’ filibuster-proof majority. (The polls were saying that Stevens would lose after a guilty verdict and retain his seat if found not guilty.) After the 2008 election, the conviction was tossed because of prosecutorial misconduct, and the government declined to seek a new trial.

I would be shocked shocked if those rogue prosecutors were prospering in cushy jobs somewhere in the Democrat sphere of influence.

  9. 9. Samizdat

    David Thomson at #6,

Any attempt to “call off” elections will be a nonstarter in federal court. We are afforded multiple rights to vote by the Constitution and even liberal federal judges will have to reinforce voting rights in the face of an attempted denial. Can I see the Democrats engaging in voter fraud? Yes. Can I see them thwarting the right to vote? No. They would not only lose in Federal court, but they would politically be commiting suicide forever.

One final point on this. The Democrat party is about to find out just how ill advised this healthcare ram through was. The opposition will have the next 11 months to organize its election fortunes. Any attempt to thwart the opposition’s right to express it’s displeasure will be swept aside. The left in this country is utterly unprepared to deal with the Tsunami that is about to hit it. The productive are about to rise up. They will not be denied, it is not part of their everyday existence to be denied. They will organize, spend money like the left can not imagine, politic, and vote.

The left doesn’t even realize what it has sown and what it is about to reap. This game will be played in 11 months and the productive forces in this nation are about to send a message that will echo for a lomg time. This is going to make 1994 look like a walk in the park. Alot of lefty congressional careers are going to be ended.

Any attempt to postpone or rig the game will be legally crushed. The side that actually controls the means of production is about to come out and play. The Democrats are going to rue the day they ever decided to nationalize healthcare. They are about to be severely attrited.

  10. 10. David Thomson

“Waaay too many people were crowing that Obamacare was dead.”

I was among those who predicted that the health care bill was dead. It doesn’t make sense for any red or purple state legislator to commit political suicide. This is why I cannot absolutely rule out an “emergency situation” eliminating elections in 2010. Those disgusting lawyers who immorally manipulated the conviction of Ted Stevens probably wouldn’t hesitate to find some way to justify an Obama dictatorship. Other than that, though, the odds are the Republicans will kick some serious butt next November. There are outraged Americans today who normally are bored by politics. They previously didn’t spend a few minutes a week worrying about something deemed of little direct importance to their lives. That makes all the difference in the world.

  11. 11. Samizdat

To Yes We Did at 4 above,

There is another election happening in November 2010. You and your political band of misfits and societal special cases are going to find out in that election just how little respect productive America has for your pathetic politically racist philosophy. Mark my words, you will suffer a political rebuke the likes of which has not been seen in this land for some time. The people with organizational ability, intelligence and motivation to succeed are about to come off the bench and get in the game. The rebuke will have nothing to do with your despicable racist point of view, it will have everything to do with your marxist overreach and your sides gross economic incompetence. The proverbial Sh%$#t storm is about to hit and when it blows through you will have rags left of what was once a political tent.

After that I want to hear your opinion again on the wave effect of the 2008 election. You apparently have difficulty reading poll data, not one national poll shows popular support for this legislation. You have all of the political prescience of a doorstop for all of your reliance on the 2008 election to see you through. Good luck with that.

By the way, that light you believe shows the end of the tunnel is actually an oncomming locomotive. In about 11 months you and your little friends will be little political bug specks on its windscreen.

    Heil Democrats! (close enough)

  13. 13. AQUA

Yes, in one way the passage of this bill which the majority of Americans are against, is a boon to the GOP.

    BUT DON’T GET COMPLACENT.

First, it’s a long way to November 2010. Many unexpected things can happen by then to dillute the effect of this.

No, the Democrats won’t call off elections, though I can understand the paranoia that makes some commenters feel that way.

The only thing I wonder about is what are the laws that cover some catastrophe or other happening on election day — or election week?

In any case, GOP should be ready for a very, very dirty fight from the Dems this year. They’re being led by the dirtiest — the Far Left — so in addition to their controlling the Census and ACORN voter fraud and intimidation — will have a brigade of artists and celebrities of all types working for them — and the TV stations — and huge, massive funding from the Soros mob plus illegal Foreign funding. The GOP, Conservatives, Tea Partiers, and Independents who want them out — just better be ready — and I hope against hope — are willing to give more than they get.

The Left’s motto is to bring a (metaphorical) gun to a knife fight, and to “get in their faces.” Don’t forget. This isn’t going to be just any other type of election. They are no longer bothering to camoflage the Chicago Rules. As Steve Green says, it’s going to be haaaard. No more Mr. Nice Guy, GOP — gazillion-druple!!

THEY also are well aware of what is happening in the electorate which is turning against them — and don’t anyone believe that they haven’t already started preparations — and will go about it in the nastiest of all possible ways.

They’ve already PROVEN by this bill, for one, that they don’t give a damn what the public wants. Why should they respect it during an election?

There will really need to be great efforts made to rally the public, get everyone to vote, FIGHT OFF AND GET THE PUBLIC TO IGNORE THE PERSONAL SLANDERS THEY ARE GOING TO SLING — STOP PAYING ATTENTION TO MISDIRECTIONS AND TO THE TIGER WOODS, LINDSAY LOHANS — GET FOCUSED, and for people to DONATE FUNDS even to the point — in these terrible financial times — that it hurts.

DON’T FOR A MINUTE THINK IT ISN’T GOING TO BE HAAARD. IT WILL NEED EVERY LAST BIT OF EFFORT.

    BUT IT IS POSSIBLE.

  14. 14. gs

Correct me if I’m wrong, DT #9, but I thought the full impact of the law doesn’t kick in for a few years. That’s plenty of time to debunk the right-wing loons who said the sky would fall. (I trust my irony is obvious, but you never know…)

If the Democrats were as effective in foreign affairs as they are in domestic politics, I would forgive them many things.

  15. 15. Samizdat

    GS at #7,

The Republican party is about to be transformed into sonething you will like alot more than it’s current sorry disposition. The Charlie Crist do good types are going to get tossed out with the other moderate fluff that has rotted the party to the point that I no longer identify myself with the party or give it any money.

Lots of conservatives are about to enter the fray. It is a target rich environment that is presenting it’s self to our side now. There will be plenty of spendthrift marxist types to run against who will have to defend their bankrupting of the country and their attempt to hijack its political history for transformative purposes. There are millions of us who are wiseing up and no longer giving the sorry Republican party a dime. Instead, we are giving candidates who meet our fiscal and other requirements money. I for one have given 3 out of state candidates money and intend to expand the scope of that effort, while I leave the party that abandoned me with nothing.

If you are a conservative libertarian I urge you to adopt my philosophy of targeted contributions. The real enemy is people like Yes We Did above. American voters by a majority are rapidly figuring this out. The healthcare socialization and its higher taxes will only serve to reinforce the message. The Marxist types and those who go along with them need to be politically stompped into a mud hole and our side needs to start spending money on the right people to make that happen. We have money due to our superior skills in a free enterprise system, and now we have motivation.

The time is at hand to start overwhelming the opposition with superior organization, cash and will. I request that you get your a&& into the game. Complaining is no substitute for action.

The amendment also includes a special extension solely for Nebraska: increased federal contributions to the cost of an expansion of Medicaid, the state-federal insurance program for the poor.”
“Nebraska is a relatively low-poverty state, with a poverty rate of 10.6 percent of households. Fifteen other states have lower poverty rates while thirty-five have higher poverty rates.
“There also is evidently similar treatment offered Vermont”
Although Congress has the “power of the purse” and all that — I would think the outright ‘UNFAIRNESS” (to use Obama’s phrase) of this, along with the borderline status of this entire bill as it stands on the “Commerce Clause” of the Constitution — would be good cause to bring this Bill for suit before the Supreme Court by the States that are not getting the “special treatment” and whereby monies are paid to them by the taxes and contributions of citizens of those “other non-privileged” states.

Can some States be “more equal” than other States — because of political deals? Well, of course they CAN and are, but what I mean is — will the Supreme Court support this? Who protects We The People from the outright theft and corruption of Congress?

  17. 17. David Thomson

“That’s plenty of time to debunk the right-wing loons who said the sky would fall.”

Excuse me, but the sky is falling. Employers will be paying higher taxes in 2010. An already weak economy cannot endure this heavier burden. And if this stuff is fully implemented—it will result in turning our nation into a second rate economic power. Only the “elites” will be able to afford an affluent lifestyle. Obama has made the recession much worse than it had to be.

These claims that conservatives might be exaggerating are absurd. I am utterly convinced that the United States would be far wealthier if Franklin D. Roosevelt and the other progressives never existed. We suffer enormously whenever the government grabs more money out of our wallets.

  20. 20. David Thomson

“But the vote’s still to come.”

I am cautiously optimistic that a number of purple and red state legislators will use “the weather is too bad” excuse. They can’t be in Washington, DC, due to the heavy snow on the ground. This will push this nonsense into January. And then a number of these folks can argue that the polls are against them. It is reported that Joe Lieberman is not in town! When will he return?

  21. this is an excerpt from an satirical article I wrote November 15, 2008:

“It became clear that by the time the Presidential election of 2012 came about, most of the electorate  was in a state of shock and confusion. Even though many of his supporters had doubts about his sanity his charming style continued to enchant them when he would pontificate, “Everything may seem chaotic, but I can assure you, we are “remaking America”, everything is going according to plan.”
My fellow citizens, I must ask you to trust me in this great adventure of “change”. I am asking you to bear with me and suspend these wasteful and meaningless circuses we call elections.  There are no other National leaders in our country today who can possible guide us though the next years with a vision of what needs to me done.  I am asking you by a show of hands to suspend the election process. Give me your support and your trust until we can realize our dream of universal harmony by the year of 2030.
Most of the country was relieved to have the reassurance of a strong, confident, visionary leader.   Over two million people filled the arena at Wrigley Field and overflowed through the surrounding streets of Chicago.   The sky lite-up with a barrage of multi-colored fireworks as Barak Hussein Obama took his vows to protect our country and establish a more caring society for all. When he asked for acclamation, the crowds exploded with a show of hands which evolved into a new emblematic salute.  Raising the right hand into the air and crossing  the left hand over to grasp the right shoulder and shouting, “Hope and Change”.  This was followed simultaneously by millions of spectators on network TV throughout the country e-mailing in their affirmations of approval at that very same hour. It was truly an historic event on November 6th 2012.  They did in fact, by a show of hands, proclaim Barack Hussein Obama Supreme Leader of the US until the year 2030.

Time for an ad blitz in Massachusetts. We may not have the votes to stop this bill this round, but it has to go through conference committee and then back to both chambers before it can go to the President’s desk. Meanwhile, there is a special election in MA to replace Ted Kennedy. It’ll be a long shot, but if we can win in MA, that’ll get us the 41st vote we need to sustain a filibuster. This would be so much easier if Curt Schilling was running, but we have to work with what we have.

  24. 24. rashputin

Barry Soetoro will be able to declare martial law the same way he passed his health bill since he has complete control of both houses. His Islamic brothers will be helpful as well, providing him with an attack he can use to justify such a move.

There are none so blind as those who will not see. An electorate that doesn’t even demand to the the records of a candidate for the highest office in the land is as blind as it gets because they refused to see past the color of the candidates’ skin.

  25. 25. Amber

Although the polls show that the majority of the American people are against this bill, I think that the 2010 and 2012 elections will be a lot harder to win than people think.

We already know that the left will use any methods at their disposal to shape the message into whatever they want it to be, and they have the help of the MSM to repeat that message consistently. Also, let’s not forget that there has been talk of doing away with talk radio, which would make it harder for the right to get their message across. I also seem to remember that at one point there was talk of the government, during times of crisis of course, taking control of the internet.

If they were able to pass something that the majority of the citizens do not want, don’t put it past them to do away with talk radio and take over the internet, thereby assuring that the right cannot get their message out.

The Republican party is about to be transformed into sonething you will like alot more than it’s current sorry disposition.

I hope you’re right, but I’ll believe it when I see it. Trust but verify, I’m thinking…with the emphasis on ‘verify’.

The time is at hand to start overwhelming the opposition with superior organization, cash and will. I request that you get your a&& into the game.

I’ve gotten my a&& into the game repeatedly and felt like a chump afterwards. The most painful time was in 1988. Remember ‘Read my lips’?

Despite myself, I would keep returning to the fold because the Democrats looked so bad. Finally, in 2008, I managed to break the habit. I was on the verge of cutting McCain a check, but a little voice told me to give it a bit more time…and then I watched McCain go bonkers as the financial crisis broke.

I wish you well in your efforts, but I am no longer a Republican in all but name: I have become a true independent. Afaic both major parties, in their current condition, would wreck the country if given their way. It makes no difference to me that the Republicans would probably do it a little more slowly than the Democrats.

This IS about using the weight of the poor or in this case, swelling the ranks of in order to create burdensome welfare state that must collapse the system. National healthcare is just such a tool. Because of it’s insipid mandates, it suceeds at putting every man, woman and child on “Welfare”, or healthcare. The two are henceforth interchangable.
It’s a classic CLOWARD-PIVEN STRATEGY maneuver if their ever was one.
This has nothing to do with voting or trampling the constitution or the peoples rights. It’s all out race naked to the finish line for the communists that have been leading us up this ramp for many years.
It wont be the ballot box that thay plan to deal us the final totalitarian blow with; it’s a total collapse of our capitalist system for which I’m afraid there will be no mourners. Bush made sure we behaved like spoiled zealots who spread democracy to other nations at the point of a gun.
If anything there will be cheers just before the great realization that there’s nobody left to save the world from global , military, high tech totalitarianism worse than Adolf Hitler could have possibly dreamed of.
James Simpson has written many great peices for the American Spectator, His website is http://www.truthorcons,com,
He wrote a great peice called Obama and the art of manufactured crisis.
He outlined this strategy this way with clearly outlined goals:

1.The offensive organizes previously unorganized groups eligible for government benefits but not currently receiving all they can.
2.The offensive seeks to identify new beneficiaries and/or create new benefits.
3.The overarching aim is always to impose new stresses on target systems, with the ultimate goal of forcing their collapse.

The question is; does this in a nutshell apply to a single payer government run healthcare system costing way more than admitted 3 or 4 trillion?
What would the effect be on the American economy?
Does it destroy the 17% of our economy that does still work?
    As to Voting consider this angle of the same strategy;

1.Register as many Democrat voters as possible, legal or otherwise and help them vote, multiple times if possible.
2.Overwhelm the system with fraudulent registrations using multiple entries of the same name, names of deceased, random names from the phone book, even contrived names.
3.Make the system difficult to police by lobbying for minimal identification.
    standards.
    Can you say ACORN?
now consider the enormous pool of new voters who are coming into play in the next assault coming very soon; Illegal, poor, needy, Immigrants. adding more system strain to an already reeling nation.

ACORN’s dual offensives on voting and illegal immigration are handy complements. Both swell the voter rolls with reliable democrats while assaulting the country ACORN seeks to destroy with overwhelming new problems.

Purple state voters were played for fools. These secular yuppies thought that voting for Democrats like Michael Bennett and Jim Webb would not damage them economically. They were cultural war liberals—but supposedly sensible on the pocket book issues. That turned out to be a huge mistake. There are no fiscally conservative Democrats in the U.S. Senate! Such individuals do not exist. The so-called neo-Liberals who naively sought some sort of third way between capitalism and welfare state policies have disappeared. All of today’s Democrats have next to no faith in the free market. At the very best, they will behave politely toward entrepreneurs and business leaders who are perceived as instantly accessible ATM machines.

The Democrats are now thoroughly committed to a blue state agenda. Purple and red state voters may not completely trust the GOP, but they definitely do not have a home in the party of Barack Obama, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi. The political repercussions in the next few years are going to be mind-boggling. Only Democrat politicians in the safest blue state areas may win on Election Day.

“So the bill looks like it will pass—a bill that will change the country’s health system in profound ways, and that was done without one single Republican vote. It is the opposite of bi-partisanship, that should be necessary when such a major change is presented. Instead, the Democrats have rammed it down the country’s throat,”

What bi-partisanship? The Republican RAMMED their 40 negative votes down the country’s throat, not the other way around. They were so sold out to the insurance and drug lobbyists they would not have shown any bi-partisanship anyway. What a shameful group of bastards!

When the fog clears, Republicans will be the first in line to use the new health care system. They are total hypocrites. Ask how many of your friends are using Food Stamps. If they dare to tell you . . .

He is going to bribe us with our own money… and we will fall for it.

It doesn’t matter if the miliary won’t follow his orders to cut us down… the brown shirts he is planning will have no problem with it.

Sorry, folks. We could vote out every damn one of them next year and nothing would change. The Fed Govt is like the vampire that you let into your house. It never goes away.

The Dems will hold on to power by running their city machine politics on the national level, but they forget that what makes such parasitic regimes possible is a healthy host body to keep pumping money to them. Obama, the scumball politician from Chicago may get this, but in the very same skull there also dwells Obama the fanatic, who wants to take down this country. He of course is considerably brighter than the honest simpleton Yes We Did, but they’re both of the same mind.

Maybe good will come out of all this. We have been very neglectful Americans and have let things go to hell for decades. Now we’ll find out what we’re made of.

In 1967, the Way and Means committee projected 1990 total program Medicare costs would be $10 billion dollars. The actual was $110 Billion. They missed by 1,100%

The projected $870 Billion ObamaCare costs, if similarly understated, will cost $9,570 Trillion. If we don’t act, this nation is toast.

They will lose freedom, get less care, pay more, and if they dare protest to much be sent to the “Soilent Green” factory by some government bureaucrat in charge. People will soon be pining for the days they though they were getting “screwed” by private insurance providers.

Very Simple Test for ALL Liberals.
    Pick up a phone.
Call any individual Govt office here in DC..(not the switchboard)
on any workday. Any office..GSA, Dept of Labor, HHS, HUD,
Dept of Interior, …ANY GOVT OFFICE DURING WORK HOURS

Out of 100 phone calls 85 will never go through. Again, 85% of the time will get an answering machine..telling you “they just stepped away from their desk”..etc. They are “in a meeting” is another one. Govt employees
    have
    30 sick days a year
    30 vacation days a year
    All major and minor holidays.
    Every Friday they are off.
They are out of the building by 3:00PM

NOW TELL ME..HOW IS THIS RACKET GOING TO TAKE CARE OF THE INDIVIDUAL HEALTH NEEDS OF 300 MILLION HUMAN BODIES?

    INSANE..ABSOULTELY INSANE

The purple state voters were played for fools. The same is also true of their red state pro-life opponents. Ben Nelson and Robert Casey outright lied to them. Their trust was violated. Big government liberals who embrace utopian economic schemes have an uneasy relationship with truth telling. The truth is squeezed, bent, and ultimately manipulated to the point of utter absurdity. One should never trust these ideologues. The truth is too often buried in the third chapter, tenth paragraph, and twentieth sentence.

No Republicans in Congress WONT be 1st in line…Congress is specifically exempt from the provisions of BOTH the House bill and the Senate bill as are Federal/Executive branch employees as well as unions. This bill is a fundamental restructuring of the American economy. RCP poll average is that 57% of the people oppose this bill. In electorall terms…that is a massive landslide…however, it remains to be seen if this will translate through to next fall. On the other hand, if the economy (i.e. unemployment) doesn’t turn around by next November…you WILL SEE a massive loss by Democrats at the polls. This is their bill and the economy along with it will be theirs.

While American voters are often complacent, when aroused, they can fiercly oppose stupidity by political parties. This happens about once a generation. The last time it happened was in 1980 when Jimmy Carter was “retired by the electorate” (that is Mr. Carter’s phrase for his crushing defeat at the polls) and in 1984 when Walter Mondale was beaten by an ever greater percentage. Mondale only carried one state, Minnesota. Previously it was 1932 when FDR decisively defeated Herbert Hoover. It does happen. Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Barack Obama are betting that America will forget about this past year next November.

I wrote about this apparently suicidal desire by the Democrats to utterly change they way America operates…

  44. 44. Samizdat

    GS at 24,

I am no longer a Republican either. I identify politically as a conservative who will vote for a Republican candidate if he or she meets my standards.

This morning I sent a large contribution to The Heritage Foundation and became a member. The Republican party gets no money from me. Conservative candidates get contributions and I will spend a record amount in the coming year on candidates across this country.

The time has come to attack the Marxist takeover of our country. Complaining and voting are not nearly enough. The conservative cause needs to be funded while the Republican Party is cut down to size and reformed. Forming a third party is a waste of time and resources.

It’s time that the Lindsey Grahams and John McCains, the Olympia Snowes and Sue Collins’ types lose control over the direction of the party. They are not useful for providing guidance or setting policy. They have proven that they are failures and offer a losing strategy.

I hope others will stop wringing their hands and start acting in an effective fashion to wrest control of the country away from the socialists who are setting policy and passing laws that offend most Americans. The Democrats are in a political death spiral free falling as they pursue an agenda foriegn to the majority of us. We need to make sure that we help them put an anvil in with their parachute before they exit the plane.

I trust other productive Americans who pay taxes and employ people will see the value in pursuing a similar course of action. We can not be denied a victory in 2010 if we spend the next 11 months backing the right people. The time has come to make the Democrat party play defense. When you think about it we have far better resources than they do, we are the people who made this country great. They are the people who are tearing it apart. The independents have figured this out and the socialists have no chance in 2010 without the independent vote.

The time for action is now.

  45. 45. BC

I have to give Obama some credit here for his strategy. I personally had thought for a while that the health care stuff should have waited until after the economic recovery was more firmly established: serious health care reform was going to be very big and very complicated, and I thought there should be more discussion about the issues and reasoning behind choosing this fix over that, and so on. But it now looks as though Obama and his people cynically assumed — and very correctly it now looks — that the Republicans were not going to have any sort of real discussion: they were just going to try to politicize Obama’s proposal to pieces with all sorts of stupidly malicious charges with an eye towards the mid-term elections. Since there was no telling what would happen in 2010, and since he had a super majority now, it looks as though he decided his best option was to try to get all his major proposals pushed through ASAP.

I still personally kind of wish that these major reforms could be debated more seriously and executed more serially and certainly in not such a rush, but the Republicans really forced Obama’s hand on this — with all their resources and personnel, the best they could come up with was nonsense like this.

  46. 46. NCBob

    “There are no Blue Dogs.”

Heath Schuler is a former NFL quarterback. Too many people simply assumed that his macho background guaranteed that he would be sensible regarding economic matters. This was purely delusional thinking. At the end of the day, the odds are overwhelming that Schuler and the other so-called blue dog Democrats will do the bidding of Nancy Pelosi. He will likely vote no only when she gives him permission to do so. But when Pelosi needs his vote—Schuler will behave and do as he is told.

Today’s Democrats are committed Progressives. They strongly believe that government officials are kind and benevolent. The common folk are far better off handing off the major decisions of their lives to elected officials and safely ensconced bureaucrats. I remember well when the Daily Kos bragged about the scam job to persuade voters to trust the allegedly more conservative Democrat candidates. He posted a picture on his website of Jon Tester in outdoor gear. The Daily Kos joked that such pictures would be very effective. He unfortunately was proven right.

When will we Americans wake up and realize that these politicians (aka dictator wantabes from both the left and the right) are at war with the Constitution and with every self-respecting hard-working citizen who yearns to be free? They lust for power over others, and they will elicit our cooperation with the threat of force, at the end of a gun. As free Americans, we have the Constitution on our side and the Right to throw off the shackles of a repressive government. I fear, however, that the strong American spirit, that which made this country the most productive and freest society ever, has been abdicated to the immoral morass of sacrificial ideologies and arrogant, entitlement-driven, laziness. A self-sacrificing mentality that grants our dictators the means to rule and enslave us all.

“These claims that conservatives might be exaggerating are absurd. I am utterly convinced that the United States would be far wealthier if Franklin D. Roosevelt and the other progressives never existed. We suffer enormously whenever the government grabs more money out of our wallets.”

You may have read this article but it proves that your hunch is correct: http://spectator.org/archives/2009/11/30/obamas-vision-through-history

Take the economic performance of Coolidge’s six years: 3.3% unemployment, 1% inflation, and a GDP which grew 48%. That growth rate is about 7% per year, which means that the economy is doubling in size every 10 years. Or if inflation is taken into account, the economy doubles in size every 12 years.

Contrast that to the 2.8% annualized growth rate that Obama had for the last quarter – this corresponds to the economy doubling every 24 years and it doesn’t take inflation into account, nor will it necessarily be a sustained rate of growth, either.

All we ever needed was an option to allow ANYONE to join medicare. At whatever premium would keep it solvent. If it was too high you would stay were you were or not have insurance at all. It could even have been implemented in degrees to test the stress on the govt and the providers. But alas, the “for profit” insurance industry and drug companies are terrified of this and have paid a lot of money to keep it off the table. They have bought our legislators. They are part of the icing on the cake that causes all of us to loose faith in our government. I am also disheartened by the right wing faithful who scream Obamacare. While they pray for themselves they say “let them eat cake” to the the millions with no access to our “wonderful” medical system. A system that exists to treat, not cure. The system desperately needs fixing and had our legislators thought of US instead of themselves, they could have come up with something we all could live with. What we are about to get is pretty screwed up. But I blame the GOP. They Prayed for failure, they will get it and we will all pay.

    David Thompson at 38,

I agree withn much of what you write, but must take issue with your use of the term “progressive”. “Progressive” is used by the left to hide the true identity of a socialist/marxist. It is a euphemism in the strictest definition of the word.

Notice that liberals, socialists and marxists will ussually hide their true biases behind a disassembled description. Obfuscation is key to their game.

In contrast every conservative I know is proud to publicly identify themselves as such. It offers a sharp and insightful comparison. We who believe in the Constitution, the founding fathers, free enterprise and capitalism, and its demonstrated track record of wealth creation and societal advancement vs they who coverup their ideology and publicly deny their political inspiration as they attempt to follow the likes of Clement Atlee, strip wealth from society and create the fellowship of the miserable.

Socialists are never able to create anything that serves the greater good of mankind because they are incapable of providing incentive. There is nothing that represents progress in what they believe. Hence the term “progressive” is offensive to reality.

David, keep writing. Please don’t aid in the furtiveness of the left.

  57. 57. jd

David Horowitz once said, “A liberal is an American who has a point of view that directs his/her political leanings. A leftist is an Anti-American with an agenda that he/she will subordinate anything to.”

When you understand that, and understand that the Democrat party is overrun with leftists, it makes sense that they will subordinate their careers to “HEALTHCARE” history.

You could show them film of that freshman congresswoman from Ohio who was lead to the podium by house leadership and forced to cast her one vote to pass the Clinton Tax Increase, and follow up with the statistical LANDSLIDE by which she lost her one term seat in 1994 – and they will still vote for this bill.

Of course, many Democrat Senators will vie for the 9 “NO” votes available for passage of the final bill as now it only needs 51 votes to pass the conference committee report. But I do believe people are no longer going to be fooled by that spot of Bait and Switch.

clearly you don’t know what you are talking about.

  59. 59. cfbleachers

Ron, I would like to expand upon your point, that this is not the way the world’s leading democracy should accomplish its business.

In order to self-govern this land of ours should we:

1)Be told that a trillion dollars of our money NEEDS to be spent, in order to create a “stimulus” to our “economy”…then have a pork-filled, grab bag of goodies rammed through without serious exploration, debate or explanation? There wasn’t even time to READ the bill, much less digest it?

What was the rush? Most, if not all, of the “benefits” supposedly to arise from it…don’t take place for years.

2)Be told that we need to spend TRILLIONS of future dollars to reduce carbon emissions, in order to create a reduction in “global warming”…only to find that a Russian hacker, turned whistleblower, unveiled the pack of lies and distortions we have been fed by the high priests of Highgate. Yet, Copenhagen went ahead and we were not given a chance to explore, much less debate, the “settled” science of climate fraud.

Most, if not all, of the benefits of reduced carbon emissions, won’t take place for decades. What is the rush to “accept” this pile of lies and distortions? Spending a fraction of the money on eradicating third world infectious diseases does far more good, for far less intrusion.

3)Be told that MILLIONS of people will die because they do not have access to nationalized health care and therefore we need to spend TRILLIONS of dollars to institute a system by which some officious intermeddling governmental hack will decide whether or not you are too old to be worth an “expensive” emergency procedure. William Ayers once said he wanted to find a way to murder tens of thousands of Americans. He appears to have gotten his wish.

It would naturally come in the guise of “taking care of” those pesky “middle American” bitter clingers. Especially the old ones, who harbor the “wrong kind” of patriotism. Now, he can be in charge of deciding who gets treatment and who doesn’t, so they can be (as Robert Reich pointed out so poignantly) “allowed” to die.

And when do the folks pushing this nationalized death allowance legislation do their bidding? In the deep, dark, stealth hours …creeping into session, so that when daylight comes, they can return behind the baseboards and into the crevices once again.

What do you call someone, Ron…who creeps around your HOUSE in the middle of the darkest hours of night, trying to find a way to grab your money?

I know what we called them in my neighborhood.

What was the rush to pass this nationalized high tech death squad legislation? So that nobody could fairly debate it in the open air and sunshine?

Nebraska just husked more than corn from the rest of the country. I hope their citizens are proud. Our countrymen have taken to burglarizing from each other in the dead of night. Makes a fella proud.

Long live lies and distortion, theft and graft. Now, if we can get our media, Hollywood and academia to cover it up and tell us this is all for the good…we can pretend to actually have a national conscience and a dust mite’s worth of honor and integrity.

And then THAT would be the “right” kind of patriotism.

The entire Federal organization, including the DoJ can be mobilized, and the Sec. of State in key states will be corrupted one way or another. This is the Chicago way; this is the Democrat way.

It will take a MASSIVE voter swing to overcome this. It is general rule of thumb that it takes betweena 5% and 10% margin to overcome Democrat election fraud. I’d wager this time around it will take at least 15% next year.

    That is a tall order.

I doubt that we ever have a legitimate election in this country ever again.

This is why the Congress is so brazen; they know that if it is possible to steal this election, it will be stolen.

Look at Chicago. Are we to believe in all these decades, generations really, that the citizens of Chicago have never once, of their own feree will, ever voted the Daley machine out of power? Not once?

People who think that the next election is in the bag, if there is an election, need to understand that the Democrats have no scruples whatsoever. They will try to pull out all the stops to steal it.
It will be like nothing that we have ever seen. I would bet you have DoJ officals actaully stufing ballots.

Looks pretty grim to me. There really no way to fight it other than HUGE voting margins.

  80. 80. Mongoose

BC: the GOP forced his hand!

Good heavens, you do not live on this earth. That is one of the most irrational opinions I have ever heard.

What nonsense. You have no idea, absolutely not one idea, about what this bill means. None.

    Truly beyond belief!

If we cannot defeat people like you we deserve to be serfs.

How do you even earn a living?

  81. 81. Stevemmn

Democrats are signing their political death warrants. Who would have thought they would be stupid enough to pass a bill that imposes major tax increases right up front while the “benefits” don’t kick in for another 4 years. And after Barack Obama promised over and over again that 95 percent of American workers would get a tax cut. If it passes this bill will expose Obama for the pathological liar that he is.

  82. 82. Mongoose

Bush was not “jamming it down the nations throat”, he was cutting taxes@ He was getting it by the CommiCrats, The whole nation wanted it. He was re-elected remember that?

What buffoonery. Now and Then, you cannot get anything right. Not one thing. You constantly and consistently make a complete fool out of yourself here. If you are a paid shill, just what are you going to do if the Democrats get throw out of power for a generation? Here is how it works: THIS time we will not have people like McCain in there. There will be REAL investigation of the Democrats, including finding out which of them are TAKING BRIBES FROM FOREIGN POWERS! That is right, they are in the pockets of countries like China!

When THAT stuff comes out, well, that will be it for a generation.
That is why the Democrats MUST STEAL the election. They know that. They know the jig is up of serious people get into power. Serious people from outside of the old GOP club. Either they destroy the middle class RIGHT NOW, or that is it for them. They will be in jail.

You cannot find a bigger bunch of crooked power grubbers, not even in the old USSR or in China today.

If you defend them unwittingly, then you are a fool. If you defend them knwoingly, then you are hellbound.

Ease up there Moongoose. you’re gonna blow an O ring. Bush got re-elected. So did Clinton. What’s your point?

  84. 84. Mongoose

Now and then: What nonsense! another completely childish response out of you.

A loser like you, a cipher like you, and overgrown child like you, patronizing an adult, condescending to his betters? How hilarious.
Get over that self-importance of yours. The adult world holds you in contempt, not high regard. Bank on it.

This shows how vile your character is: You cannot address issues and then when called on it you slip back under a rock of superciliousness condescension and patronization like the low snake you are. You merely make a juvenile fool out of yourself.

This is pure narcissism. I doubt that you are even 35 years old. I rather doubt that you have accomplish so much as one meaningful thing in your life. That is why you believe that things you do, you cannot face your own irrelevance.

You need to sit down and do some soul searching about this.

You are headed into a middle age where you will no longer be able to believe your self delusions.

If you think that you hate yourself now, and narcissism is really a reaction to self-hatred, wait until you have to face yourself with out your youthful self-delusions.

You will have nowhere to hide.

There you go . . . that’s it . . . Moongoose a little perturbed is he . . . not sure why . . . not enough little fruities in your cereal today? . . . tell you what, and this is a good deal, probably the best one you’re gonna get today so I suggest you take it . . . . how about you make a cogent and rational assertion (hint #1 “The entire nation wanted it” doesn’t rise to the test, nor do bug-eyed insults like ” superciliousness condescension and patronization ” which is just plain confused) . . . anyway, make an assertion and if I deem it worthy of comment, I will gladly tear you a new one . . . again. What can I say, it’s Christmas and I’m feeling charitable.

“No Republicans in Congress WONT be 1st in line…”

I meant regular Republicans, not congressmen.

    45. BC:

“But it now looks as though Obama and his people cynically assumed — and very correctly it now looks — that the Republicans were not going to have any sort of real discussion: they were just going to try to politicize Obama’s proposal to pieces with all sorts of stupidly malicious charges with an eye towards the mid-term elections.”

That’s exactly what happened. Republicans obeying the hard cold cash from lobbyists. The American people are learning about their dirty tricks.

  87. 87. Skydiver

    Now and then,

I can not say whether you are ignorant, but definitely a liar.

Look up a voting record for Bush’s tax cuts. For example, 2003 tax cut was passed 50% / 50%, with VP casting a deciding vote.
    http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=108&session=1&vote=00196

Providing for reconciliation does not mean passing by reconciliation. but YOU ALREADY KNEW THAT. That is a disgusting attempt to hide the truth. You always do that. But who are you targeting? People here are much smarter then you think. We are not those who voted for obama, because we did not know who he was. We knew and know exactly who he is. And the current house and senate composition is well known to all of us.
We’ll see you at the poles.

  89. 89. Ron Oliver

To paraphrase Jefferson, “Where government fears the people, there is liberty. Where people fear their government, there is tyranny.” As a nation, we are rapidly approaching a state of tyranny. I fear for my country. The mobocrats and elites in congress are pushing us into a scenario where we must choose between slavery or civil war. Regardless, I see blood on the horizon. Sad. I pray I’m proven wrong.

  90. 90. rachel peepers

Judging by the amount of Democratic disseminated misinformation about the soon to be approved StealthCare health scheme whose colossal cost when benefits kick in, over a ten year time period will exceed 3.5 trillion dollars, I have to say that the 60 Democratic senators who prostituted their true beliefs by voting for it will accumulate over 70 million Frequent Liar Miles. Which comes out to more than 1 million Frequent Liar Miles per pants on fire senator.

Giving them enough Liar miles to travel to the moon and back twelve times.

When our premiums start going through the roof, it’ll be like Jackie Gleason telling his wife, Alice Kramden, that he’s so mad he was going to send her to the moon. “To the moon, Alice, to the moon.”

When the U.S. supreme court finally gets around to declaring numerous part of this monstrosity legislation unconstitutional, the mess that will need cleaning up will be of biblical proportions.

And, unfortunately, for Ben Nelson of Nebraska, who got his thirty pieces of silver for his vote, the magical 60th, Ben’s destined to be remembered as the most despised senator of his generation.

The Democrats health overhaul victory, a huge loss for America, takes us one giant step closer to national dissolution.

    82. Then we need to make the 2010 elections a 60/40 landslide. Hit them so hard even ACORN won’t be able to steal it. Take back both houses. New York- here’s your chance. You have a rare opportunity to elect two Senators at the same time. Time for the 1-2 punch. Let them know you can’t afford them.

From the Globe and Mail (Canada):

Watching Americans debate health care reform throughout 2009 called to mind the old Irish joke.

Lost in rural Ireland, the tourist asks a local, “How do I get to Ballygambema?” “Well,” replies the local, “I wouldn’t start from here.”

“Here” is a system that leaves about 45 million people without insurance, millions more underinsured, insurance and pharmaceutical companies making huge profits – a system that costs the country 16 per cent of its annual national income for aggregate health outcomes no better than in countries such as Canada, whose systems cost much, much less.

Put another way, there are a bunch of good reasons why no other country in the world copies the U.S. health-care system, or would want to reform its system by using the “here” of U.S. health care. It’s too costly and ineffective, although the system works just fine for those with first-rate insurance.

    ACORN provision in health bill?

Did you all see that there may have been another side deal cut this past weekend in the Senate health care legislation – and this one could involve ACORN. The Weekly Standard reports that Senator Roland Burris (D-IL) had language added to the Senate Manager’s Amendment that could provide ACORN federal health care funds.

According to page 241 of the amendment:

In carrying out this subsection, the Secretary, acting through the Deputy Assistant Secretary, shall award grants, contracts, enter into memoranda of understanding, cooperative, interagency, intra-agency and other agreements with public and nonprofit private entities, agencies, as well as Departmental and Cabinet agencies and organizations, and with organizations that are indigenous human resource providers in communities of color to assure improved health status of racial and ethnic minorities, and shall develop measures to evaluate the effectiveness of activities aimed at reducing health disparities and supporting the local community. Such measures shall evaluate community outreach activities, language services, workforce cultural competence, and other areas as determined by the Secretary.’’ (see full text of Manager’s Amendment here: http://www.weeklystandard.com/weblogs/TWSFP/Reid_bill_language.pdf )

The Weekly Standard reports: “According to a Senate legislative aide, the scandal-plagued Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now could qualify for grants under this provision. ACORN would also qualify for funding on page 150 of the underlying Reid bill, which says that “community and consumer-focused nonprofit groups” may receive grants to “conduct public education activities to raise awareness of the availability of qualified health plans” (see: http://www.weeklystandard.com/weblogs/TWSFP/TWSFPView.asp).

    The Fine Art of Lying

There are lies and there are lies. There are white lies, BIG lies, petty falsehoods, serious misrepresentations, gross prevarications, cowardly equivocations, major whoppers, silly taradiddles, and fibs.

The Obama administration has perfected and nuanced the execution of every variation of lie but none is more despicable than its lying about one of the two most contentious issues relating to Obamacare, abortion.

The other issue, of course, is that beast of many backs, the public option, the single payer option, the government option, all of which are no options at all since they will be part of the final bill.

Alternatively, that public option will, shortly after its passage, be covertly incorporated into Obamacare with as much clandestine sleight of hand Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barack Obama can muster.

That advertised transparent triumvirate has evolved into the most opaque, secretive, and evil trio since Richard Nixon and his teutonic duo of H.R. Halderman and John Ehrlichman.

The opaqueness and secretiveness of this administration and its congressional cohorts has been apparent from the beginning to anyone not brainwashed and figuratively waterboarded; the closed-door, ultra-partisan, heavyhanded Democrat manipulation of Obama’s signature health care issue simply iced his opaque cake.

It’s admittedly extreme to bandy about the loaded word “evil” but when the political shoe fits it’s more than appropriate.

The Nixonian triumvirs were evil in their arrogant abuse and misuse of presidential power and perks.

The Obamians are evil in their totality, . . .

the Senate bill would constitute a positive change of historic proportions. The legislation, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, would extend health insurance to more than 30 million Americans currently lacking coverage while reducing the federal deficit.

  98. 98. ehunter

All roads lead to a Democrat defeat.
The bill from this will be massive and the only way
out is to attempt a tax increase…which will fail with the
result being the bankruptcy of the country.
