The White House’s War Against Fox News
No wonder the Obama administration has decided to single out Fox News as its major opponent, and to wage war against it. Almost everyone acknowledges that with its signal slogan, “We Report: You Decide,” the network in fact leans towards the conservative side, particularly when it comes to its array of on the air pundits and commentators. But what particularly must rankle the White House is that Fox’s ratings are growing daily, and at present during Obama’s first year in office, are the highest it has ever achieved.
I have addressed this question earlier, in a blog in which I paid special attention to the forced resignation of Van Jones and to the expose of ACORN’s wrongdoings. Fox News was also the only network to consistently play the videos prepared by James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles, which quickly became so popular that not only did the other media outlets have to treat it as a legitimate news story- which it was- but was also taken up by the nation’s most popular comic talent, from Jay Leno to Jon Stewart.
To any observer, it is clear that if Fox is the conservative’s station of choice, MSNBC is the darling of those on the side of liberals and the far Left. Why else do these viewers regularly watch Maddow and Keith Olbermann? Is what they do any different from what Beck, O’Reilly and Hannity do? Of course, MSNBC has its balanced “Morning Joe” with Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski. But Fox News also has its equivalent on its top rated Sunday program, Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace. And the 6 pm “Special Report with Bret Baier” has its daily panel, that regularly includes mainstream liberal pundits Juan Williams and NPR’s Mara Liasson.
And yet, the administration has sought to only make war against Fox, and will not allow its people to be on any of their shows, even those widely acclaimed as fair-minded. As Anita Dunn, the White House communications director said, “We’re going to treat them the way we would treat an opponent. As they are undertaking a war against Barack Obama and the White House, we don’t need to pretend that this is the way that legitimate news organizations behave.”
Given that position, it is no wonder people are worrying that an appointee to the FCC, Mark Lloyd, who has previously expressed his admiration both for Hugo Chavez and his revolution’s war against all media opposed to him, might be seeking to find ways to do the same thing to our TV and news sources via the tactic that they are only trying to enforce “diversity.” Indeed, as Fox accurately reported, Lloyd himself made his goal clear in a 2007 report about the “structural imbalance” of talk radio.
And in a public and videotaped panel in 2008, Lloyd called Hugo Chavez’s government the result of “really an incredible revolution…a democratic revolution.” As a result of his triumph, Lloyd argued that “the property owners and the folks who were then controlling the media rebelled,” with the result that Chavez and his cadre had to move and close their media outlets down. Then he said the US sought to oust him, but Chavez came back stronger than ever, “and had another revolution,” and then “started to take the media very seriously in his country.” Viewing Chavez’s totalitarian actions favorably, Lloyd implied that opponents of the right-wing media should do the same here.
Lloyd also said that the “fairness doctrine” isn’t enough, that we need new “structural rules” to put teeth into it, and that “good white people in important positions” should “step down so someone else can have power.” Is it important that a man who now is Associate General Counsel and Chief Diversity Officer of the FCC has these views, and that the public get to hear about them?
How do I know this? I admit it freely. The man who made this public, from research that anyone could have conducted, was Glenn Beck. Does this mean I agree with everything Beck says, or give credence to his often hysterical conspiracy theories and his endless and breathless monologues? Does it mean I agree with this support of Ron Paul’s ideas or those of the extremist Bircher, the late Cleon Skousen? Of course not. But give the man credit. He alone has made us aware that this appointment was made. So far others have not picked up on Lloyd, and perhaps in his new office, Lloyd will abandon trying to put his proclaimed views into actual policy. But as citizens, we have a right to watch and see what he is doing, and if he makes moves that jeopardize a free media, respond by demanding that he too step down.
Naturally, the administration that appointed people like Jones and Lloyd must not be happy to see that Fox commentators are exploring the backgrounds of appointees who have hitherto been under the radar. Recently, Beck turned his attention to an equally little known Marxist scholar, Robert McChesney, who created the media watch group “Free Press,” who has explained his point of view in the following way: “Instead of waiting for the revolution to happen, we learned that unless you make significant changes in the media, it will be vastly more difficult to have a revolution. While the media is not the single most important issue in the world, it is one of the core issues that any successful Left project needs to integrate into its strategic program.” According to Beck, on a recent program, McChesney and his group met with the FCC commissioners at the White House, to advise them on programs to adopt to help enforce so-called “internet neutrality.”
I have no idea whether the assertion Beck made is accurate. But shouldn’t some media outlet and reporters investigate this, and see whether some in the Obama administration are asking in extreme far left Marxists to advise them on how to better mold the media and prevent the free expression of opposition ideas? If it turns out not to be true, wouldn’t that put a stop to some of the charges Beck is making, and that so enrage many liberals?
Rather than do that, it is clear the administration prefers to try and isolate Fox News by emulating Richard M. Nixon’s strategy of informing his people to blackball The New York Times, or to develop an “enemies list” of media people opposed to his policies and administration. Back then, liberals saw Nixon’s attempts as a gross interference with freedom of the press, and for many in the media, Nixon’s citation of some of them became a badge of honor to proudly wear.
Will a time come when the White House decision not to allow any administration spokesman to be on Fox News in 2009 backfire? Does Barack Obama, the great orator, really think if he appears for an interview with Chris Wallace- a seasoned and respected broadcaster- that he will not be able to handle Wallace’s questions, or that he will not be able to persuade any of Fox’s viewers that he, and not they, is right about the issues?
So far, in the White House battle with Fox News, it is Fox that has won. Their widely reported ban on Fox has been reported everywhere, and it makes the White House look fearful, weak, and ready only to talk with those who are more likely to agree with their agenda. Is this the change America wanted when it elected Barack Obama as President?

When Rupert Murdoch, who views Silvio Berluscioni as a bane, disagrees with Agent Zero, well the fur flies. But, when there is agreement, silence is almost maintained. I won’t say zero decibels, but a sound level no higher than one decibel.
It is incredibly stupid for a top White House official to publicly slam Fox News. This is something you talk about in the back room. Most Americans are going to consider such complaints to be petty and somewhat whiney. But I am not surprised that this has happened. Obama and his people are convinced that he deserves only never ending compliments. They have experienced virtually a free ride since the very early days of his presidential campaign. George W. Bush received a lot of grief from the MSM—but he is a scumbag Republican. Democrats are nice and wonderful folks. A balance, objective, and decent human being should perceive the president as above criticism. What is the world coming to?
I honestly don’t ‘get’ this either. If anything, the great ‘orator’ should take FOX by the tail and proverbially run with it! HELLO? HUGE ratings and viewership!
What is wrong with this picture?
It’s so petty and third-grade school-yard tarded to ‘dis such a HUGE venue.
-But, then again, we are talking about some very unpolished idiocy both up front and behind the scenes, so, this is just one more embarrassing display of immature displays of spazmosis.
On the scale of POTUS, this kind of ‘under the bridge’ behavior is really hitting below the ‘supposedly’ genius cranium.
I agree with Mr. Thomson above.
What is to be gained by the White House engaging Fox is such a hostile fashion?
Was this “Declaration of War” planned or did the White House Communications Director lose her cool, and speak out in anger?
Was Ms. Dunn giving her opinion or does the President seem himself as “at war” with Fox News?
In an interview, Communications Director Dunn had said — “We’re going to treat them the way we would treat an opponent . . . As they are undertaking a war against Barack Obama and the White House, we don?t need to pretend that this is the way that legitimate news organizations behave.”
They, liberals and liberal media, are like cornered rats and nothing is out of bounds, just look at Canada. They have a national broadcaster called the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, CBC, that is government owned and they are not only liberal but very openly so. From afar I can see the same distrust in CNN developing as has undermined the credibility of the CBC. I no longer watch the CBC for news at all because of their lack of objectivity and truthfulness on political matters, the same now holds true for CNN. You can thank your lucky stars, and stripes, you still have one honest and truthful news source left, Fox, to offset the openly biased, deception and distortion of the facts. In the end they neuter themselves as a news source.
No it makes them look like close minded facists.
It would be unreasonable to imagine that Barack Hussein Obama, whose opinion of himself is so high that it’s a wonder his nose doesn’t bleed continuously, would tolerate any degree of dissent from his apotheosis. He lives for adulation; he believes he deserves it. If you fail to grant him his due, that makes you evil.
Glenn Beck’s conversation with former Carter staffer Pat Caddell yesterday evening delineated what a sensible, humble person does with criticism: he engages it. Even if he believes himself correct, he listens to the opposition, for there’s always a possibility that the opposition might have a cogent argument. One ceases to listen to the opposition only when it becomes clear that they’re repeating themselves endlessly, without listening in turn.
But Barack Hussein Obama isn’t a sensible, humble man. He believes himself fit for power — in perpetuity, which is what frightens me most about him. This substanceless product of the Chicago Democratic machine has no clue that he’s merely a front man, a pleasant image behind which loom the worst, most conscienceless, most vulpine men in America.
Pray that we’re able to remove him from office.
Mr. Radosh,
Thank you for this article.
Dipping one’s hands into the manure that constitutes the power structure of the new Roman Empire, the United States, is something I find detestable. But, since you live in the States, it is something you need to do in order to interpret for the rest of us round the world the actions of the new augustus and his multitude of new caesars.
You have been forced to admit that someone you view as something of a skunk warned you of the dam upriver bursting, and to your great credit, you have had the sense to amplify that warning rather than dismiss it because it came from someone you view as a skunk.
Accordiog to Gerald Celente, a man who is a trends forecaster who has had a reasonbly good record, the United States is now a fascist regime. His definition of fascism is when the government and big business effectively combine, something you have seen occur in your nation since September 2008. He didn’t include in that definition the rabid nationalism of Mussolini, but he implied that you really have no options at the ballot box, the Republican and Democratic parties being part of one big mafia.
What you add to Celente’s description is the distinct possibility of a power grab over the media, which combined with the possibility of control (perhaps censorship) over the internet, leaves you with no free press at all.
I do not say this out of a sense of schadenfreude; most of the media here in Israel consists of barking lapdogs of the secular, G-d hating, left wing “peace” establishment. I say this because it appears that your country is rapidly losing what few freedoms remain to it.
I leave you with this to ponder.
A young boy uttered prophecies enshrouded in a riddles 1,500 years or so ago in northern Israel. Details on the Child Prophet can be found at Theirtysix.org

I bid you a good day.
Headlines in tomorrow’s NYT:
“Obama Bans Fox, Ratings Soar!”
I apologize for the error describing the link above; it should be to Thirtysix.org.
Why deal/watch/talk to the Fox idiots?
All they do is smear and disinform.
Chris Wallace is right: this admininstration is the biggest bunch of thin-skinned crybabies to ever occupy the WH.
President Obama ended America’s “war on terror,” then started one with Fox News.
He took months to find the time for a face-to-face with his top commander in Afghanistan, yet meets weekly with the head of SEIU.
Without doubt, this guy’s one lousy Commander in Chief. Perhaps, even, the worst ever.
From the LA Times:
Latest ratings out for the second quarter of 2009 show the top-rated FNC having one of the best quarters in its entire history with prime-time ratings jumping an astounding 34%, not all of them Obama fans. (gee, ya think?) That 8-11 p.m. slot is crucial for viewers — and ad dollars — which includes Fox’s showcase “The O’Reilly Factor.”
Throughout the viewing day, Fox News did even better with its 1.2 million viewers, on average, more than doubling CNN’s 598,000 and more than tripling third-place trailer MSNBC’s average audience of 392,000.
Heh.
I am happy to see that Anita Dunn the President’s media director has chosen to pick this fight. No president has ever won a battle like this and the strategy is bound to backfire as it attracts even more viewers to Fox.
The President’s attack confirms his insecurity and the intellectual weakness of his policy positions once again. He is taking on an opponent by attempting to make it the issue, instead of engaging it and proving it’s editorial position is incorrect. Alinsky application that is not going to work.
I started watching Fox during the Presidential primary season because I felt MSNBC and CNN were so unfair to my candidate, Hillary. I have voted in nine presidential elections and six for the Democratic candidate and until recently always considered myself a Democrat. While I never had any real loyalty or affection for MSNBC, I watched CNN for 20 years. How sad it has been to see it slip so far.
The White House declaring war on a cable channel shows how confused they are. What’s next, a ban on TV Land? A&E goes underground? AMC is changed to BMC and can only show movies that Barack has personally chosen? More seriously, I’m a little concerned they think the war against Fox merits more attention than the wars in the Middle East. They seem to have more invested in the outcome of the battle with Fox. Ridiculous.
Great comment at Althouse:
“He gets the Nobel Peace Prize one week, the next week he’s declaring war on Fox News and gay bloggers.”
Yes, well, it shows where bambi’s priorities lie.
He needs to fire up his increasingly disillusioned base. This is all he has for them. The Left hates FOX, but this has to be pretty thin gruel. He’s going to need more than 30 minutes of hate a day, and I don’t think he’s going to have it. Even if he were competent, the utter incoherence of the Leftist agenda, and its antagonistic relation to the American people and American norms, would doom him. It’s a car out of control–it’s very hard to stop it, but it has to crash sooner or later and the biggest problem is to minimize the damage.
They never gave this any thought as far as its possible consequences. Radicals never do. They live in radical-land. This is just thug mentality. It is also the usual deflect, distract, demonize when your own case has no merit.
Freeze, polarize et al will not work on a huge megaphone operation. Fox just smiles all the way to the bank. They had all the top 13 shows on cable last month. Their morning show beat each of MSNBC and CNN’s Primetime lineup. A Morning show, for Pete’s sake! And Beck(!) in his mediocre time-slot has exploded, whomping all but O’Reilly in his prime slot!
Murdoch should put Obama on his Christmas list:
Dear Mr. President, thanks for making me filthy butt-nasty rich! Keep up the good work! Who said you’ve accomplished nothing?!?
P.S. Please don’t fire either Gibbs or Dunn. I so love your communications team!
I don’t think Mr. O is that vain, but I do believe he is a determined Marxist who spent his formative years in a Muslim country. Elitist and disdainful of those who cling to their religion (I do) and guns (I don’t)
And most miss the real point that the White House is only going after one (1) news organization.
No bias anywhere else, especially in the Norwegian Parliament.
Obama knows he has lost the Independents and the base is struggling to stay loyal. So, step one is shore up the base and step two is bring back the Independents.
Not a bad plan if you can control events and truly adjust your policies.
Obama can do neither. 2010 will make 1994 look like a gentle breeze.
Ha! The truth hurts and Obama finds it particularly painful.
Obama did hold his nose and made an O’Reilly appearance to pretend to be moderate during a critical time in his campaign last year.
Well, this is how socialism works. You put in hard-core socialists or even Marxists into positions of power (such as Mark Lloyd at the FCC) and then you gradually eliminate free speech until only the party line can be uttered over the “public” airwaves. This is really scary stuff, especially here in America. What makes it more interesting is that it will effect all of the networks on TV as well, only right now their in deep denial at CBS, NBC, and ABC. What if the day comes when the President requires the FCC to have at least one or two presidential speeches broadcast in prime EVERY WEEK? The networks will be hard-pressed to refuse if they can have their licenses revoked by ignoring such a request. What if the White House decides that all of the network news outlets are only allowed to broadcast talking points issued by the White House’s press secretary? NBC pretty much does that right now and the others will soon follow. What do you think that will do to Fox News’ ratings then? And what happens when the White House decides that the Internet should have the same “Fairness Doctrine” applied to it? Don’t think this can ever happen? Well, believe it or not, it’s happening right now. The networks are already balking at how many times Obama is being broadcast in prime time, yet they continue to do it (wow, I wonder how the White House “convinces” them to do this). There are also noises at the White House on how to limit discussions on the Internet, but I doubt they would apply to the Daily Kos, the Huffington Post, or anyone else that agrees with their agenda.
These are dangerous times, America. I fear the White House doesn’t really grasp what they are trying to do here and if they continue going down this path will face a backlash from the American public they’ve never seen before. Socialists in this country continue to make the same fundamental mistake they always make. They actually think Americans are no different from the French, the British, or Spanish. How little they know about our history and our country. If they push the American public too far, they just don’t understand that Americans generally push right back. Count on it.
10. vivo:
“Why deal/watch/talk to the Fox idiots?
All they do is smear and disinform.”
But of course. That explains why their ratings are through the roof. Millions tune in daily, more than all the other cable news programs combined, just to be misinformed. The left must be thrilled to have your dazzling insight as PajamasMedia’s resident troll. Keep up the good work.
Can you imagine the howling if Bush made similar (and justifiable) complaints about The New York Times, MSNBC, the alphabet networks, CNN? Granted, he avoided hostile venues, but to make a public war about it would reveal him to be a thin-skinned, narcissistic crybaby.
I’m beginning to think leftism and narcissism are overlapping neuroses.
All they do is smear and disinform?????
Examples are required to support this charge. Brainless Anita Dunn hasn’t provided any more than that true believer Vivo.
Example are required.
Media control goes straight back to Lenin. After a coalition of democratic socialists and liberals forced Czar Nicholas II to abdicate in March 1917 the new government (the only democratic government in Russian history-Yeltsin’s was not democratic but a collection of continuing or “former” Communists and secret police personnel) kept Russia in World War I on the side of Britain and France and the US against Germany and its allies. Lenin was contacted by the German General staff which subsidized Lenin to bring down the Russian government because Lenin had pledged to take Russia out of the war. Word got out and Lenin had to flee the country but the money was used mostly for propaganda to the troops; the combination of Lenin’s supporters use of “the media” and the terrible defeats and losses on the Russian front enabled Trotsky, now Lenin’s ally, to overthrow Russia’s democracy in October 1917. (Thus calling it a revolution is a misnomer; it was a coup). Lenin was then brought into Russia in a sealed train by the German General staff. Result? murder of Czar and his family, who under the democrats had only been imprisoned. The dismissal of a Constituent Assembly which was not in favor of Lenin’s Bolsheviks. The creation of VCheka, the precursor of the KGB and a terror state. And withdrawal from the war and major land concessions to Germany though to no avail since Germany lost anyway. Point here re: Radosh-Communists have been masters of media from the beginning; it is one of the keys to their continuity despite their abysmal economics and their dictatorial and imperialistic history. Free speech has served us all well, however frustrating things feel for one side or the other depending on whose ox is gored.
I think that the WH is terrified because Fox has released their agenda. Something that the public was never supposed to have.
I was never a Fox fan….until this last election. Watching the “regular” networks, I was noticing that I was hearing Obama say one thing, yet what they were reporting was nothing remotely like I was hearing coming from the “great one’s” mouth. My parents watched Fox however, and when I would be at their place consequently I would watch as well. And although I did not agree with everything, one thing I did see, was that this network got it. They were hearing what I was hearing. What Obama was actually saying. They were not getting caught up in the mass hypnosis of the Obamazombies, where he was being treated as if he were the second coming.
I still do not agree with everything on Fox, but I do now watch. They seem to be the ONLY ones who are not kissing WH or Pelosi butt, but rather (for the most part) telling it like it is.
GOOD FOR THEM!
@23. Fred Beloit: re Vivo the Troll. You must remember that data is not important to Leftists, only feelings…..and power, OK, mostly power.
If vivo FEELS that the truth is a “smear” then it is, voila! See how simple it is to be a Lefty, none of that hard stuff like thinking and reasoning and research, just emotions. They are so much easier to have than thoughts and reasoning and how can anybody challenge your FEELINGS, don’t you care about their FEELINGS! My Gosh! You must be a racist!
Sorry about all those caps but I was just trying to capture the feelings of creatures like vivo.
Attributed to Lincoln:
“Never pick a fight with men who buy their ink by the barrel.”
Yes. The Bush Administration’s misguided and illegal war against Iraq took our eyes of the real war against Fox News in New York. No wonder they’re vacillating on the commitment to Afghanistan. The Obama Administration has finally identified the real enemy!
Seriously, though, isn’t this the sort of media repudiation / intimidation that happens in Venezuela under Chavez? How long before the FCC gets involved?
Obama reminds me of how a baby reacts when you take away his/her bottle, only his bottle is CNN/MSNBC/ABC/CBS/NBC
One state media, one voice, one leader.
Ask Fidel and Hugo.
Another strategy: drive unemployment so high to brake the back of hard working Americans and no loans from banks. Thus, Barry has created the Welfare Republic!
Thank God these fascist tyrants are so stupid.
What our administration fears the most is citizens recognizing the truth. To the degree that any news oorganization reveals the facts, Obama and his lackeys will attack it.
23 Fred Beloit:
“Examples are required.”
There are thousands. All you have to do is turn it on.
• Fox Anchor Jon Scott was caught reading directly from a Republican press release as though it were news.
• Rupert Murdoch admitted that he tried to shape public opinion on the war in Iraq.
Murdoch also boasted that his Fox Business Network would be a more “business friendly” network.
• Chris Wallace, host of Fox News Sunday, noted that he generally agrees with Sean Hannity.
• In a revealing bit of staff development, George Bush hired Fox anchor Tony Snow to be his press secretary.
• In an interview with NPR, Fox News VP Bill Shine blurted out that Fox is the “voice of opposition.”
• “I see this as the Alamo,” Ailes said to Beck. “If I just had somebody who was willing to sit on the other side of the camera until the last shot is fired, we’d be fine.”
• And from one of your own:

Anita Dunn, the White House communications director said, “We’re going to treat them the way we would treat an opponent.
~~~
And what part of “keep your friend close, and your enemies closer” doesn’t she understand?
The people are already growing more suspicious by the day. This is something only a very spoiled child who has never experienced opposition would do. (and the adults in that child’s life, certainly were irresponsible rearing him to deprive him of opposition. aka: normal consequences of outlandish behavior.)
This is why they are called the ‘totalitarian left’.
The american left controls Hollywood, the academy, and 80% of the entrenched media. That 20% drives them crazy.
Fox News has opinionated people for sure, and are not ashamed to tell the audience that they are traditionalist, conservative or libertarian.
Nixon picked a fight with the NYT and WAPO. Look where that got him?
Does Barack Obama, the great orator, really think if he appears for an interview with Chris Wallace- a seasoned and respected broadcaster- that he will not be able to handle Wallace’s questions, or that he will not be able to persuade any of Fox’s viewers that he, and not they, is right about the issues?
~~~~
He might have a chance if all questions are submitted one week ahead of time, no deviation from those questions allowed, and he has his teleprompter. Of course, since he prefers to speak in vague generalities, leaving his audience to “fill in the blanks”, it does not bode well for him as voters are catching on.
oh, and yes, obeyme is weak. It was glaringly obvious early in the primaries just how weak he is. He cannot handle anyone disagreeing with him on anything.
Francis Porretto – thanks for your post. You’ve described Obama, the pathological narcissist, and the BackRoom Gang who run him…perfectly. Thanks again.
So let me get this straight.
Nobel Peace Prize winning President Obama is ready to have unconditional sit-down face-to-face mettings with Castro, Ahmedinejad, and Kim Jong Il.
But those meanies from the Fox News channel? Can’t talk to them!
As I see it, there are two possible explanations for the high ratings Fox News continues to earn:
1. Fox News really is as bad as the leftist think, but this country is still more conservative than liberal, and did not take a leftward lurch last November.
2. This country did move to the left recently, but moderate liberals actually recognize that Fox News is reasonably fair and balanced.
So which is it Vivo, 1 or 2?
The networks are already balking at how many times Obama is being broadcast in prime time, yet they continue to do it (wow, I wonder how the White House “convinces” them to do this).
~~~~~
The “everybody else is doing it” argument common to almost every living child. If the MSM got together and refused another prime time speech, it wouldn’t happen. Of course, this child would throw a tantrum and punish them for it.
33. Paul from Hamburg:
As I see it, there are two possible explanations for the high ratings Fox News continues to earn:
1. Fox News watchers are ignorant and have no capacity for facts or reality and prefer to exist on pure emotion.
2. Conservative Americans are in a relentless struggle with their puritan sexual guilt and feel they can turn to Fox for their daily T&A fix and still tell people they’re watching Fox for the news.
So which is it Paul, 1 or 2?
The Obama administration is chock-full of wide-eyed liberals who approach all issues from an emotional stance. The “Mean People Suck” bumper sticker set. They’re silly and pompous. This is only going to get better as Fox digs deeper.
@35. vivo:
Concrete examples please…….otherwise you are just being lazy
ELEVATING FOX NEWS AS NUMBER ONE ON YOUR OPPONET LIST allows you to shove Afghanistan, Iraq, Al Queda, et al down the line to be dealt with…well…”later”. Easier that way.
So much for those who claim this POTUS can’t make a firm decision.
NOW we know who the REAL ENEMY is: FOX NEWS!! THANKS to Anita Dunn. Don’t we all feel better?
FOX News is the only news we watch on television in our home. We have come to hate CNN and we call them the SIN network, or Satan’s news. We turn off all news except Fox News on our televisions. We do not like Disney and we will not watch any of the other news channels. We also feel that MSNBC is the worst one of all, and I have heard many people say it, and say they will not watch them.
We turn the evil networks on occasionally when there is breaking news to see how they word it, or what they have to say and it is apparent they work for evil people, so we turn them off.
We are not the only household feeling this way, my Mother’s home, my Uncles home, and so on. My Uncles all served in the military and they all know the current administration is using mind control of the people in the Media.
I do believe that the Media try to use the power of suggestion or mind control on people and these people that watch CNN or MSNBC need to change the channels. They use the same power of suggestion in advertising and so I think the political world caught on years ago and they do it just like Coca Cola or Pepsi.
I know that sugar sodas are the worst thing we can drink and I know that the Liberal Media are evil and as bad for our well-being as a sugar soda.
For some reason it does not work on some people, and I am convinced most people in our family are hardheaded and that makes it very hard to brainwash us.
I do think too many people are couch potatoes and that it is worse for them and my family is active people, which help us. We ride motorcycles, I have my own bike I ride, and we like to play outdoors. We are stubborn here and set in our ways and we watch FOX. Thank God for FOX News, but I feel the same way about PJtv and Pajamas Media, I thank God for good people.
If an administration can censure one media outlet, then what prevents them from attacking the other networks? The other networks must be fully aware that a state run propaganda utility is not far away if anyone of them should fall. This freedom of the press is and has been part of the American system of checks and balances against tyranny. Opinions are allowed, libel and slander are not. The Gestapo techniques of polarizing and isolating one’s detractors are embattled by the freedom of speech and diversity of opinion.
re vivo @ #35
“Just tune in, they are on 24/7, you know.”
That is a classic left-wing rebuttal. Essentially, Vivo says, “It is there. If you can’t see it, then it you who has the problem. Don’t trouble me by asking for specific details.”
#36 – Now and Then
Nice job ducking the the original question.
Actually, it is a little pathetic. You claim “Fox News watchers are ignorant and have no capacity for facts or reality” and yet when you have an opportunity to explain a fact, you simply ignore the question and invent a silly fantasy.
“The widely reported ban on Fox only makes the Obama administration look fearful, weak”
Nonsense. It makes the administration look smart, which is exactly what they are.
No one takes Fox seriously. Save for those known as the teabaggers. And we all know the intelligence displayed by the teabaggers.
“Keep your government hands off my Medicare”
Obama declared war on Fox news?
Well, I guess that’s easier than dealing with the *actual* war in Afghanistan….
Not sure what a false choice is? I refer you to post #33.
Wow! Ron really hit a nerve with this one. We are being treated to the full-court troll press now that “jharp” has joined.
Please expand, jharp, on why avoiding dialouge with your opponent makes you look “smart”. From my perpective you tend to look unsure of your arguments or dictatorial. Either way that is a bad position for a POTUS to be in.
Hamburger Paul:
It jumped . . . post #34
Fox is the only news station that presents both sides of the political spectrum. They even give liberals like Geraldo Rivera his own show for goodness sake! Even 5 seconds of watching CNN makes my skin crawl. Obama et al need to get a grip lest America finds herself like her neighbours to the north, where free speech in the media has basically been eliminated.
36. Now and Then: (You’re making this far too easy)
As I see it, there are two possible explanations for the high ratings MSNBC/CNN continues to earn:
1. MSNBC/CNN watchers are ignorant and have no capacity for facts or reality and prefer to exist on pure emotion.
2. Liberal Americans are in a relentless struggle with their daddy issues and feel they can turn to MSNBC/CNN for their daily androgyny fix and still tell people they’re watching MSNBC/CNN for the news.
So which is it Now and Then, 1 or 2?
anton:
“Please expand, jharp, on why avoiding dialouge with your opponent makes you look “smart”.”
Easy silly. By even acknowledging their presence gives Fox undeserved credibility. Didn’t you mother ever teach you to ignore name callers and folks who lie about you?
Obama is a classic divider. By his open contempt for Fox, a wellspring of opposition, granted, and the call to arms of his pajama army, he shows his modus operandi. Don’t confront the opposition in open dialogue. Could be trouble there.
Dudes a player, dudes a TYPICAL politician. This is not what he promised.
“We have elected the enemy.” Jim Quinn (Quinn and Rose)
I do not see any real problem here. The cat has been out of the bag on Fox news for years and there are other news agencies that are liberal leaning. If americans were less educated and were not able to discern for themselves then there is a problem. But the last couple elections have shown that americans are capbable of voting for change, even when millions are spent to “keep them in line.”
Besides, I really like Fox Sports. So the white house should stop moaning and get on doing what they were supposed to do when elected. Three words: health care reform.
#43 Now and Then
If you think it is a false choice, then what is your explanation for the high ratings on Fox News? You leftist keep claiming that conservatism is dying and the country is more liberal. You also claim that only ignorant, far-right conservatives watch Fox News. If both of those claims were true, then the ratings for Fox News should be dropping, and MSNBC should be climbing. In reality, Fox News has the highest ratings going, so at least one of you claims is false.
Was Anita Dunn’s attack a result of the ‘cup of coffee’ chit-chat discussion between Axelrod and Giles up in NYC last week??? One thing for sure, Murdoch (perhaps the world’s leading media guru) knows what sells and has crafted a winning formula with FOX. That FOX isn’t drinking the Kool-Aid doled out by the Obama administration — ‘cry me a river’ LOL
jharp, I believe you’ve used the ‘Keep your hands..’ quote from ONE senior citizen in S.C. a minimum 10 times already. Any more times you’ll have to apply for permission. Copyright infractions and all..
As for the Manchurian-in-Chief going on FOX News, not going to happen. I believe FOX studios frowns on multi-teleprompters-in use in the studio.
Otherwise FOX news people would look silly, glancing left and right though their eyes in a fixed position directly in front of them.
47. jharp: Please give a concrete example of the lies you claim.
But publicly stating that the Administration won’t talk to them does not give them acknowledgement?
The real reason they hate Fox is that if they go on a Fox show and make the sort of bland assertions that they so often get away with on the compliant media (CNN, MSNBC et al with their tingling legs) the Fox newscasters will call them out.
Please note that “Mr. Ready to Lead” who had a plan for AfPak back when he was a Senator (for a couple of months) is still mushing aropund trying to come up with something to do. None of the other media outlets will take him to task for this endless indecision. If he went on Fox some inconvienient interviewer would probably ask why he is ignoring his hand-picked General’s recommendations. If he goes on CNN they will ask how Michele’s vegetable garden is doing.
Is is a lot easier to hit the softball toss than a hard inside slider; most of the mainstream nedia are throwing underhand.
Ooooh, an Enemies List!
Dave the Axe and Rahmbo warned BamBam that his ego was his glass jaw. But I’m afraid it’s an incurable condition. Expect Teh Won to lash out ever more wildly as he and his initiatives are rejected by a public which has started to see through his conjob.
Liberals come out of the closet. Surprise, surprise, free speech is not our most important freedom after all, dissent really isn’t patriotic, dialogue is both unnecessary & unwanted, tolerance is reserved only for those who agree with you, liberty is dispensable, diversity is bad, unanimity is required. And silence is golden.
Eight years I heard about fascism from the hysterics of the left, it turns out they rather like it. The slug Obama has done normal people a favor, he has shown just how vicious liberals are, just how much they crave power, and yes, how insane they are in their hatred.
Thanks for the warning Hussien.
51. Paul from Hamburg:
“What is your explanation for the high ratings on Fox News? ”
Fox News gets ratings for the same reason Girls Gone Wild made millions and porn is so much more popular in red states and it’s OK for Billy Ray Cyrus to pimp out his teenage daughter and Bill O’Reilly shows endless loops of Paris Hilton washing a car and eating a burger and pick your choice of Spring Break expose warnings, “This is graphic footage, but we ned to show you what’s gong on down there.”
Fox News is a train wreck.
A pew study before the election revealed that 62% of Dems and 90% of Pubs agreed that the MSM was in the tank for Obama. I am referring to the “you all voted for me” news media of course. The same study revealed that MSNBC was fives times more negative toward McCain that Obama, whereas Fox News was equally negative toward McCain and Obama. Being equally negative toward Obama had to drive the moonbats crazy?
A more recent survey revealed that 89% of all 1000 participants polled felt that the media was too favorable to Obama.
Obama is much better suited to be a dictator of some Central American banana republic where you can close down any media outlet this does not kiss the messiah’s arse every day.
Now and Then: #36
Here’s an answer emmotional leftists would understand.
I choose #2. I like the looks of the girls and what they say.
JHARP AND NOWANDTHEN:Since youre actually here to engage in name calling and mud slinging, I’m glad to oblige:Lets talk about you’re messiah’s record as corkboy for the slumlord! To heck with any birth certificate stuff, let’s talk about turning tricks for a SLUMLORD CRIMINAL. Are you into that?
Zerobama is growing ever more paranoid as his inner circle of Marxists duck and run for cover. He has been “outed” and more and more Americans are tuning to Fox for the “real news”. Keep whining, Zero, I’m certain Fox appreciates the advertising.
Anyone else see the video of Obama with his SEIU thugs stating “We are going to paint the nation purple”?
If you do not watch Fox News you are clueless about this administration, and what their agenda will ultimately bring us.
At last, Obama has found someone he will not sit down and talk to.
#55 Now and Then
OK. Since I don’t really watch Fox News, I guess I’ll just have to believe you. I am sure you have seen all those things you describe.
Fox News is:
1)Pro-American
2)Pro-Capitalist
3)Pro-Military
and they drive the cultural marxist crazy.
33. Paul from Hamburg:
“As I see it, there are two possible explanations for the high ratings Fox News continues to earn”
59. Paul from Hamburg:
“I don’t really watch Fox News”
And so my purpose here is clear.
Un-accustomed to receiving any criticism at all on his free ride to the top, this President, despite his false patina of equanimity, becomes very irked at public criticism of his policies, of himself, of his administration.
Remember when, shortly afer inaguration, the thin-skinned One™ told Republican members of Congress that they should go along and get along, and stop listening to Rush Limbaugh?
“You can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done.”*
(*translation: We won, the opposition needs to shut up.)
Obama said to know him, look who he surrounds himself with. Well, it’s certainly worth investigating a man who surrounds himself with the likes of Rahm, D. Axelrod, John Holdren, Van Jones, Mark Lloyd, Cass Sunstein, Harold Koh…Timmy Geithner, Tommy Daschle…Anita Dunn, Valerie Jarret, Susan Rice, Janet Napolitano, Kathleen Sebelius et al.
Very much worth watching in the name of preserving any and all Constitutional principles that this cadre of big government transnationalists (with out-and-out Marxists sprinkled in) hasn’t (yet) succeeded in subverting.
anton:
47. jharp: Please give a concrete example of the lies you claim.
“Fox News. Fair and Balanced” is a lie that is told hourly.
The country is more liberal in some respects. Thanks to pony tailed lawyers/professors, music ‘artists’, useless unions, ‘progressive’ politicians etc. the country ‘boasts’ the following to name a few:
-An illegal immigrant can get a home loan. If home in default, blame is given moreso to bank. Responsibility and loan standards be d amned!
-Multi-generational families and later their siblings on welfare, all the while blaming others for their plight.
-Health insurance overhaul when in reality ~10% of people can’t afford insurance.
-Infamous LGBT pioneers in history taught to elementary age children in public school in some states and will only pick up ground.
-H1N1 Virus, found to have originated in Mexico, is but the appetizer to allow millions of criminals from the same area residing here, as well as their ‘family’ from their native land in the upcoming amnesty push.
-UCSB has over604 Latino History and Cultural classes. How many American History classes? 1
-Living in or near areas of poor neighborhoods is now considered, ‘living amongst diversity’
-The national debt triples in less than 6 months.. results no longer important. A 2nd stimulus may be in the works!
-According to Wolf Blitzer and many like minded folks, a person’s color is considered an accomplishment. The Nobel committee echoes that sentiment regarding attempts-accomplishments for tasks.
-John Leibowitz, err, Stuart, I mean Stewart is a source for ‘political knowledge’ for many..
-Emotion trumps discussion on infinite-like topics.
-Employment no longer looks at qualifications in hiring practices, but ethnic, sexual quotas.
-Were a nation of cowards.
-Disagreement with leftist politics is un-American or possibly ‘racist’ only.
-The Speaker of the House can lie about national security meetings information and anticipate no repercussions.
-Personal note: I was vetted more by my sophomore homecoming date’s parents than the POTUS was during the election.
Liberalism, what ‘feats in progress’
As Anita Dunn, the White House communications director said, “We’re going to treat Fox the way we would treat any opponent. As they are undertaking a war against Barack Obama and the White House, we don’t need to pretend that this is the way that legitimate news organizations behave.”
Golly, this gal’s statement doesn’t quite coincide, at least in tone, with O’bambi’s policy to, with no preconditions, keep a dialogue with opponents open; sit down and talk to them.
Bambi is open to talking to Iran, Venezuela, Nigeria, North Korea, Russia, Cuba plus any two bit dictator who treats human rights like state enemy number one; he talks to domestic terrorists, sticks everyone from admitted tax cheats to avowed marxists to NAMBLA friends in ironic government positions like Secretary of School Safety, Kevin Jennings who wrote part of “The Queering of Grade Schools”, like media Czar, Van Johnson, and Mark Lloyd.
Since I take O’bambi at his word that he’ll talk to opponents, I expect him to sit down with Fox in the near future, profusely apologize for his gal Friday’s aggressive words, and promise to foster a spirit of cooperation and common ground as a sign of the kind of good faith he learned at Trinity Church for some 20 years of attendance.
Just as Bami unilaterally agreed to reverse plans to erect missile defense in Poland and the Czech Republic, I expect him now to deny a broadcast license renewal to MSNBC and CNN both of which toe the Democratic party line like good little soldiers.
Just as Bami treats opponents like long lost brothers, I fully expect him to invite Rush, Mike, Sean, Glenn, and Bill to the White House for some cake and ice cream topped off by a denunciation of the New York Times, Washington, Post, NBC, CBS, ABC and anybody else who Bami can count on to carry his water.
In practice, the way O’bambi treats opponents should make friends very nervous.
Matter of fact, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Obambi, when he realizes the words Ms. Dunn used to attack Fox News, tells Anita to show more patience, peace and understanding for the one news network America can trust to tells the truth.
Widely acclaimed as fair minded?
By whom?
Peace.
Fix: Not ’604′ but ’60′
Mr Radosh struck a nerve with this post. I can tell by the multiple responses to the trollkins.
Why bother? Who cares what the discredited marxist types think? Just because they have learned nothing from history and are wedded to a demonstrably failed political and economic ideology doesn’t mean you have to respond. Let em stew in their own self deception and misery along with Pol Pot, Alinsky, and their other comrade heros.
These people are generally incapable of contributing to our society in a productive or meaningful way so they spout off what they learned from their Marxist professors. Why even bother replying to such poorly thought out dialectic drivel?
Yeah, I know, you think it’s fun.
Birther attorney Orly Taitz has a $20,000 fine imposed on her by a federal judge this morning.
She does have a legal defense fund. Step up birthers and teabaggers. One of your own is going down.
Maybe it’d be a good time for her to make her plea on Fox News. MSNBC skewered her.
Implicit (albeit unstated) in Ms. Dunn’s mini-rant yesterday was that this administration has decided to “punish” foxnews by not having Obama or anyone in his administration go on to be interviewed.
(me, myself & I think the lightweights in O’s administration really don’t like any questions that aren’t the softball variety lobbed at them on the completely in the tank cable channels and the networks)
It’s funny, and pathetic, to try to control the agenda that way. Another example of WH arrogance that in depriving Fox of One’s™ pearls of wisdom and yak-a-thons from the likes of other members of his administration that they are being deprived of something.
I’d say it’s good news to not have to listen to any of them firsthand .
Foxnews’ probably slightly left leaning Chris Wallace referred to this crowd in DC as “a bunch of whiners”.
Spot on
Anton @ #53
Extremely well said!
vivo,jharp,nowandthen…..they are all saying the same garbage….
ooooh! President Obama is too smart to talk with FOX.
It’s hard to believe they think it’s a good thing that the President of the USA should childishly avoid any contact with the top rated news network in the country.
I’ve got news for you….Obama avoiding FOX doesn’t make FOX look bad, it makes Obama look bad. If you can’t see that, you’ve got your head in the sand or up your a$$.
jharp, your talking ‘points’ are so weak they’re beyond reproach. They’re vivo-like.
Scatter-brained, nonsensical statements.
You’re another person who shuns discussion. Attempting only to ‘comment’ in hopes to ridicule with a sophomoric tone instead of engaging conversation.
Then again, it’s a ‘business as usual’ type comment when perusing left leaning sites.
Obama should go on Fox News and try to reason with the troglodytes. He there leader too after all. But no, instead he drives the wedge deeper.
Obama, The player, is a classic reactionary politician and typical democrat. There is nothing new here, no change and little hope. Want to see where his progressive brand of politics leads to? Look at California and Chicago.
He’s going to blow off the opposition and half the country in the process to impose his will without presenting his arguments to the major adversarial new organization? Such disdain! Such arrogance! How many more ways are their to say, “I’m not your president you dumb @#$%.”
Beware a political party and the demigod at it’s head, that thinks they have all the marbles. The “might makes right” and “The end justifies the means” crowd. No good can come of this.
jharp: This isn’t Moveon. I don’t have an MSNBC spin decoder ring so I have no idea what your last coment is supposed to mean.
President Obama’s only transparent quality is his thin skin to any criticism. First the Obama Administration attacks Rush Limbaugh & it backfires exponentially as he gained more listeners; likewise, months later, Obama refuses to play with Fox News since they do not play dirty carpet with the man-child from Kenya. I believe Obama’s continued attacks on Fox will just add more viewers to the channel. What does this accomplish for Obama? He throws a temper tantrum. Really presidential Mr. President.
Aside from Fox News & the mostly conservative radio, President Obama gets nothing but fawning attention from the MSM that it is derelct in its duties of the press. Yet Obama cannot get passed Fox News. If he is intimidated by Fox News & Rush Limbaugh, what does that say about President Obama? He’s not ready to lead. Several months into his administration & it’s about to collapse from within since he is no leader. Good riddance to the corrupt fool.
“All they do is smear and disinform?????
Examples are required to support this charge.”
Remember, for a lefty, quoting them accurately saying something they’d prefer the public not hear them say is a “smear”.
…something about a man’s gentals on your face, but why does Wes Crusher keep talking about it?
Obama should go on Fox News and try to reason with the troglodytes.
He’s afraid of the troglodytes. He doesn’t like being challenged by anyone who doesn’t swoon in his presence.
During the campaign, after many entreaties, Obama finally sat down for a long 2 part interview with O’Reilly.
During that interview, Obama, who had been negatively politicizing the Iraq war for the duration (just as he’d been politicizing, in an opposite sense, the “good war” in Afghanistan) acknowledged to Bill O’Reilly that the surge in Iraq had been a “resounding success”. (his exact words)
I about fell off my chair as One™ blithely uttered this single phrase in complete opposition to everything he’d ever uttered publicly about Iraq up to that point.
If he sat down for another interview, he might say something again so untoward for the agenda.
He might be trapped into acknowledging his ugly and crude voting “present” these days on the good war.
I love this ban on Fox. It’s sooooo LIBERAL. “Yes, I’m open minded and tolerant of people expressing their views unless they are different from mine. In that case I will demand that you shut up. If you do not, then you are clearly my enemy.”
The White House stepped in a hornets nest with this one. When you do that you get stung in the head.
This is a well written article that sheds a bright light on the cowardly administration. However, I wish some of you would IGNORE vivo, now&then and jharp because they are the trolls of the obama mind set. It makes no difference what you write or ask of them you get the same crap in response. They never make intelligent arguments and almost always name call. If we conservatives want to maintain our sites with a high standard of responses then we have to patrol for trolls.
Their problem?
I was just reading a post that mentioned Axelrod met with Ailes and “…both sides see benefits in the feud.”
I don’t trust Fox. The media is our enemy. This TV station rounds up all the right leaning viewers and can then (even when sounding v. conservative) demoralize, indroduce trusted talking heads, influence poicy, promote or hide story-lines,steer outrage. This is a brilliant puzzle palace construction.
MarkLevinshow.com has Mark’s program for free. Listen while you still can.
Hey CNN, can I get a fact-check?
The process of subversion of the Republic goes on undisturbed.
The subversives now dictate the limits of the acceptable dissent and label Fox as “unacceptable”: BUT this is only a trick of course. The point is that Fox is an old fashioned media enterprise that WOULD NEVER say the truth about what is going on (i.e.,the subversion of the Republic).
It is the same trick that the subversives are playing with Glenn Beck: by labeling one position as “unacceptable” (when it is really a MILD dissent), they show their intention to crush ANY REAL dissent.
The subversives are saying that they will no longer accept any militant dissent: what should we understand by this ? Will they begin crushing the dissent expressed on the Net ? Will they make new laws or implement regulations (through some “czar”) to limit free speech ?
All depends from how strong they will feel they are.
It is no surprise that this comes just before the “health-care” “reform” and the discussion on “cap and trade”, both bills being able to destroy forever America’s economic strength.
The subversives are not playing politics, they are playing war…but nobody listens to the warnings…
Thank you for the opportunity to comment.
I notice that the trolls get meaner and more shrill as they witness their lefty worldview collapsing under its own weight.
It is very good that the Administration come out openly against Fox–all the media should be “marked,” and any public figure has the right to get his message out anyway he sees fit. The long term benefit is the destruction of the notion of a “mainstream media,” which makes some claim to be the “fourth branch of government” with special rights of its own. The whole notion of a “mainstream” is un-American, and result of the Cold War consensus created under historically abnormal conditions. Let there be liberal media, conservative media, marxist media, liberatarian media, tabloids, guerilla media, middle brow and high brow media; let there be media that triple and quadruple source their info and media that spread rumors and gossip around–the public will find their own ways to negotiate this unruly environment and make their own decisions about whom to trust, and politicans will figure out how they need to deal with these thickets to communicate how and to whom they wish. That would be more like the way things were in the 19th century, before “professionals” and “experts” took over, and ultimately managed to make the media both more boring and more unreliable. Fox News is a step in the right direction.
Was this on Fox News yet?
“Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe broke with her party Tuesday and said she will vote for a Democratic health care bill, handing President Barack Obama a much-sought boost in his quest to expand access to medical coverage to all Americans.”
Take that teabaggers!
Come on, trolls. You must have some actual example of FOX doing something wrong or being totally biased.
Was it FOX, or one of the other networks that reported cannibalism during Hurricane Katrina? I honestly don’t remember. Of course, that was Bush bashing, so that’s OK. I don’t remember any retraction or apology, but then I expect to be lied to, and am seldom disappointed.
55. Now and Then:
Which explains why Fox documented Van Jones’s stands and statements, while the NYT didn’t publish anything about the Van Jones controversy until after Van Jones had resigned.
Does Now and Then consider it a smear to document what Van Jones said?
Does Now and Then consider it a “train wreck” to document what Van Jones said?
Does Now and Then consider the NYT’s non-coverage of the Van Jones controversy until after he resigned the right way to do journalism? Is ignoring the facts, such as the “see no evil” stance of the NYT, the nuance that liberals prefer? Are conservatives knuckle-draggers for digging out the facts on the Van Jones controversy?
Disclosure: I grew up with too many refugees from Nazism and Communism to pass off someone who calls himself a communist, especially after it had been so discredited. So while Now and Then and his ilk may pass off what Van Jones said about being a communist, it became an issue for me.
Dear Mr. President,
Though you remind us regularly, that you won, you seem to forget the implications of that fact. It is as though you are still pinching yourself. Yes, it is true you won. It means simply that you are no longer on the campaign trail. It means you need to do you job and pay less attention to the media. You are the president and it behooves you to rise above any media frenzies instead of fueling the fire and entangling yourself. Fox is going to report what they want to report. Let them. If it all is rubbish, have no fear you will be vindicated and they will be revealed for what they are soon enough. You have nothing to worry about, much less is it something to squabble about. Of course if Fox does have something to say worthwhile, even if it is only 10 percent of what they air. Maybe it would be worth while to hire someone to sit down and glean anything they can from the channel. At least you would know what a lot of Americans are watching.
Yours, TomF
I told you already it’s “red” taxpayers in “blue” states (like me) who form the bulk of that revenue transfer.
Look at NYC, where 1% of the residents pay over 50% of the city’s taxes. Much of that 1% is Wall Street. Who do you think they typically vote for?
Typical factually-challenged response, though.
Unquestioning Obama supporters just don’t get it. The deeper he drives that wedge; the more average Americans are drawn to Fox News. Where else will they hear contrary points of view? And as they visit, who’s corruption will they find/have found?
And if they don’t think that it’s important to loyal opposition, well then they are not in a democratic frame of mind. And that way lies madness.
@80. jharp:
That is a assertion; you need to pick a “lie” that Fox has told and then provide factual, traceable data that would show that the statement is a willfull and knowing mistruth.
Then, and only then, you will have proven your point.
Please, by all means, keep heaping scorn on people who work for a living. We’re used to that type of behavior from rich folks like yourself.
I’m not heaping scorn on anyone who works for a living, I’m heaping scorn on “community organizers”. And, if you work for a living and somehow think that entitles you to some of my work (how you think I make my money, wishing it into existence?), you and I have a fundamental problem.
Go for it. I’ll be working to make sure that negative number stays negative until you croak. Then we’ll be even.
Yeah, but your type is lazy. You’ve got less skin in the game than I do and you can easily be bought off (cf. nearly every Baby Boomer who became a Yuppie). You’re just a young idiot now and maybe you’ll be the one still “fighting for social justice” once all your friends have grown up, but it doesn’t matter in the big picture. It’s expected that some people won’t “sell out”. It’s built into capitalism’s business model. Otherwise, how do you think “the rich get richer” became a cliche? Clearly, whatever your side is doing isn’t working. Well, it’s because as clever as you think you are, people with money can always buy someone cleverer to figure out how to keep their money out of your grubby little hands, parasite.
“Look at NYC, where 1% of the residents pay over 50% of the city’s taxes. Much of that 1% is Wall Street. Who do you think they typically vote for?”
I have no idea and neither do you.
How about Warren Buffet and his $46 income?
And the Wall Streeters that I know laugh at Fox News and it’s viewers.
Since when did Bill O’Reilly become a news program? I thought it was a show to discuss events from O’Reilly’s point of view which is confusingly neither conservative or liberal. The same for Hannity or Greta. They expound on topics of the day, never reporting the news as one would define a news anchor. So, why the fear from the POTUS and WH? Why the declaration of war against one, single cable channel? Most of us know the answer. Fear is a powerful motivator and will inspire a fearful person to make irrational decisions and take unwise actions. However, in this instance, the war is welcome and in the end, those who would be more destructive in reality than the previous administration in theory will only prove to be of benefit to Obama’s opponents.
Censorship is a total contradiction to American freedom. This entire administration has been a contradiction to America from day one.
How about Warren Buffet and his $46 million income?
Who does he typically vote for?
And you’re an idiot.
David S thinks like we all did in our teens and twenties; those who provide products and services are bad. Those who do not are good.
Therefore, redistribution is not just a path to utopia but a moral and ethical imperative. Redistribution is in fact a noble cause as he states in his last paragraph.
To David S, our resistance proves that we:
1. Are incapable of understanding his utopian paradise.
2. If we did, we would not allow it anyway because of our greed.
3. We cannot argue with him because the fact of our disagreement proves we are unworthy to argue.
As a result it is entirely feasable to understand armies of teens frustrated by rejection, resorting to bashing in Starbucks windows. This is a matter of world poverty vs. greed for god’s sake. Look at the enormous stakes. Were I David S or his ilk I would feel the same hatred and marginalization he does here.
Funny to hear the loony left bleating about how “unfair” Fox is. Where were you guys when CNN had to fire some idiot for falsely accusing the military of targeting journalists? Where were you when the Reuters photographer got busted Photoshopping pics of the Israel/Lebanon conflict (making Israel look bad, of course)? Where was the outrage when the NYT knowingly ran a false story making the military look bad? Or when the LA Times ran a Photoshopped picture that showed a British solider pointing a gun at a young Iraqi child? I could go on for hours.
122. jharp:As per Warren Buffet. Its called an economy of scale–you’re an idiot.
I have no idea and neither do you.
No, actually I do. Even in the bluest of states, the GOP gets 45-47% of the vote. 2008 was a year where Obama actually did pretty well among higher incomes, but in 2004 Bush took 60% of those votes (over $100K income). Come on, you claim to be an expert in everything and you don’t know this?
How about Warren Buffet and his $46 income?
Buffett’s already come out with a “mea culpa” on this, basically. Besides, he is more concerned about his legacy as a philanthropist at this point, so he is a case unto himself, not something generalizable.
And the Wall Streeters that I know laugh at Fox News and it’s viewers.
That’ll be the day when I believe you know people on Wall Street.
123
Were I David S or his ilk I would feel the same hatred and marginalization he does here.
I do think there is an issue of alienation within our society and economy. Certainly not as bad as some make it out to be. People in the rank and file of a company or in society generally do tend to have little say in what the company does or how society evolves. This is contrary to most of human history, where we lived in small groups and weren’t subject bureaucratic decision-making processes and had geographical opportunities to flee from the group, for those who were willing to take the risk. The problem is that making decisions outside of bureaucratic processes almost always devolves into “cult of personality” scenarios. The contrast between the two methods of social organization was spelled out pretty well by Max Weber back in the day.
jharps refers to his frat house friends as Wall Streeters.
And you’re an idiot.
You bore me.
CORRECTION:
jharp refers to his frat house friends, taking Economics 101, as Wall Streeters.
Amazing the fuss made over one TV station. For years liberals had a monopoly on news and opinion, now they only have about 90%. Poor babies can’t have it all? Total dominance is all that will satisfy you? What happened to diversity of opinion?
Imagine how normal people feel when watching the rest of the media fold and cave for the Democrats.
It has been discussed many times that the Democrats are now the party of the very rich and the poor. Warren Buffett and Steve Jobs don’t care about income taxes – they have already amassed fortunes. Increased taxes and regulations help the very rich because they effectively block competition from start-ups.
The middle class – entrepreneurs, business owners, professionals, etc… we are the ones who get squeezed by the government. We are the ones who watch Fox and who are not going to tolerate your socialist BS.
Wasn’t it Fox that broke the news of a GW Bush DUI when he was a young man? I believe it was reported at the worst possible time being election eve.
There would not be a democrat party without the so called mainstream media propping it up.
Out of curiosity, did Fox ever fact check the Sarah Palin skit on SNL? I seem to remember voiced disgust, but no actual point-by-point refutation as was seen on CNN a little while ago.
If I’m wrong, please correct me. This is a genuine question.
Regardless, I would like to say that yes, Fox is biased. And so is CNN. And ABC. And the NY Times. And I am biased. And so are you.
Stephen Colbert once remarked that “reality has a well known liberal bias”. Anybody have trouble guessing his politics?
Well, everyone leans one way or another, though usually on isolated topics (such as Bill, comment 21, who clings to religion but not guns) rather than the whole LEFT/RIGHT illusion.
A news corporation is composed of people. People are never completely objective, so why should Fox or CNN be paragons of detachment? In the old days, nobody bothered to pretend to be unbiased, least of all the media. Then one fine day someone figured that the (apparent) truth would sell better, and here we are.
Yeah, Fox leans towards conservatism and CNN leans towards communism. So what?
I have a disclosure to make: I don’t watch cable news at all. Get my news from the internet, mostly here but also from the google headlines thing. So, given that, I’m a bit confused.
All 3 major broadcast networks, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, and the Comedy Channel (important because many 25-year-olds get their news from Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert) are all liberal to one extent or another. Fox, by itself, is conservative. Please tell me how this is a bad situation? For one thing, I saw an MSNBC anchor on Leno (I think) several months ago, explaining that, OK, her network was a bit liberal, but they were balanced by Fox news, which is more conservative. Presumably, if you got people at the other networks to admit to their bias (fat chance, I was shocked to hear her admit to it) they’d probably say the same thing. So if Fox is driven off the air (which seems to be the goal of the left) who will give the other networks cover so that they can continue to be biased towards the left? You’d think they would all be adamant that Fox remain.
As for the White House complaining about the media. Remember the brouhaha when Cheney called the guy from the NYT an a**hole in front of an open mike? Obama of course is different; he has real complaints. Fox hasn’t promoted his agenda, as the rest of the media has, and apparently as media is supposed to. This is completely different, because the president is trying to save the country, don’t you see?
All of us who oppose Obama’s policies should be watching Fox News. This is the only station not sucking up to him and telling the public the truth.
The best thing that can happen right now (in regards to the media)is for at least two of the liberal newsgroups to go bankrupt. I would love to see CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC and MSNBC have to go off the air for lack of viewership.
There aren’t enough liberals to support them all. If all of us stop watching these stations, some will have to go off the air. This would certainly be cause for a celebration!
These corrupt, Obama kissing stations helped create the mess we’re in, let them pay for it by losing their jobs too!
If a good majority of our country watches Fox News and the President chooses to ignore and stigmatize said News source…
Well, that just shows you how much he and his cronies really gives a flying squirrel fart about most of the people in this country.
We are on our own, folks.
venividivici:
Look at NYC, where 1% of the residents pay over 50% of the city’s taxes. Much of that 1% is Wall Street. Who do you think they typically vote for?venividivici:
Yes, and that’s exactly what was anomalous about his win.
I stand by my words.
So?
TOhio:
All of us who oppose Obama’s policies should be watching Fox News.
And El Rushbo, Hannity, Savage, Ingraham, and Levin. The credit repair and get out of debt crooks advertise heavily on these shows.
Maybe it’s time to wish for death for your political adversaries, again.
I never stopped.
So I guess that Wall Street typically votes democrat. Is that what you’re trying to say?
No, retard. Clearly you need to look up the definition of an “anomaly”. If Obama was an anomaly, that means the norm is for those people to vote GOP. Jesus, idiots like you have spent the last 30 years shrieking about how Wall Street and “the rich” own the GOP and when I point out that means your petty little “it’s blue states that support red states” simplistic notion is factually incorrect, you start to push the idea that somehow Wall Street is a Democratic stronghold.
And I’m the one losing a grip on reality? Even if I were, it beats never having one, as is clearly your situation.
VVV,
You are an idiot. Your query was “who do you think Wall Street typically votes for”?
By the cable/satellite political news viewership of America that outnumbers you by 3 to 1.
Next question!
“Not since Theodore Roosevelt proposed universal health care during the 1912 presidential campaign has any such bill come this far.”
“It had five committees in two chambers to get through, and as of this afternoon, it’s cleared all five.”
“Americans have been waiting for health care reform for far too long. And as of today, reform is headed to the House and Senate floors for the first time ever.”
How’s them apples o’ teabaggers? Whilst you snivel and whine about the White being mean to Fox news you have just lost a battle that has been going on since 1912.
1912! And Obama is gonna get it done! Praise the Lord.
I stand by my words.
You keep posting this like I’d actually care or something. I don’t even consider you a human being. You are a piece of trash to me, so what difference would it make if you “stand by your words” or not? It doesn’t.
‘Does it mean I agree with this support of Ron Paul’s ideas …. Of course not.’
Why not ?????
When your enemy is busily intent on hurting himself, don’t interrupt.
Most people didn’t vote for Marxism and didn’t vote to have the Constitution of the Republic undermined.
2010 can’t come soon enough. (Flushhhhhhh……..)
It’s entirely pointless to ask questions like, What does the WH gain by doing something like this? You might as well ask what child molesters get out of child molesting. This is who these people are. They are vicious little despots, filled with bile and hatred, and they are determined to destroy this country. Every single thing they do and think is refracted through their prism of jealousy, power lust, contempt. They don’t get anything out of this except what masturbators get out of playing with themsleves.
Are we clear?
143. venividivici,
Isn’t it telling that the trolls can’t deny that Fox News is THE most watched news network by far and that 0bama snubbing Fox News is essentially ignoring the MAJORITY of Americans?
The MAJORITY of AMERICANS aren’t watching LEFTIST propaganda.
How telling indeed.
jtwerp; “Either you losers can weasel out of your debts or have some wingnut shyster take more. Me thinks the latter.”
Now that’s classic!
Speaking of weaseling out of debt and shysters taking more, how’s Goldman Sachs, Fannie and Freddie, AIG, Citicorp and Govt. Motors doing these days?
@123. Air2air: – Were I David S or his ilk I would feel the same hatred and marginalization he does here.
An interesting observation. The question is: given that feeling of hatred and marginalization, would a sane, rational person willfully persist? The answer, of course, is no.
So the question is: what is behind the persistence? Easily, the answer is a wildly overblown notion of one’s ability to sway some unseen collection of lurkers. Unless one is piling the fantasy of enormously unwarranted self-esteem on top of another fantasy involving an unseen, pliable, silent audience seeking “enlightenment” from “right-wing madness”, one doesn’t persist in a milieu where one’s every utterance is consistently and systematically rejected and revealed as a collection of lies, logical fallacies and irrational drivel.
These trolls do indeed “think like we all did in our teens and twenties”. And so we have another marker in favor of the notion that these poor souls are intellectually trapped and emotionally fixated in an adolescent morality, just as I’ve been observing for some time now.
Nixon had his enemies list, but he wisely tried to keep it quiet. This White House openingly takes it to prime time. Silly them.
So let’s retaliate against Newsweek, which has had 29 (!) covers featuring the Obamas so far:
http://trackacrat.com/2009/10/09/5007/
29 and years/decades more coverage to go…
Thank you for your admitting what I was trying to prove. You have no idea who Wall Street typically votes for.
Wall Street typically votes GOP.
Seems like you enjoy putting words in people’s mouths almost as much as you enjoy putting Obama’s c*ck in your own.
@12
“All they do is smear and disinform.”
Then you’re free to go watch your gay porn on MSNBC.
146
They’ll probably try to deny it. Facts mean nothing to these people, as is shown by jharp trying to deny that Wall Street types tend to vote GOP. I will give him points for originality, though, since he is the first person who’s ever made that claim.
The left has always been about their big mouth and Hollywood blowhards who do not know about American mainstream. The reason the W.H. is attacking Fox is because they cannot back up their ire with FACTS! Hell, if they are not corrupt, using taxpayers monies like I have ever witness before for hand-outs, used ACCORN and SEIU to to corrupt a democratic government (Socialism), then go on Fox shows and debate. They won’t because Fox is showing America that this Left run government has their hands in the cookie jar. White House prove Fox wrong with facts!
Considering vivo’s and Now and Then’s comments, I have to ask why they are not also condemning the leftist media outlets.
It’s quite obvious that the 15-20% that doesn’t fall in line with Obama’s agenda really, really frightens the radical libs. Why? Very simple. Because they FEAR people will wake up from their stupor and realize that radical liberalism really IS destroying the United States. It makes such perfect sense and they are freaking out that word is getting out. Otherwise, they would just poo-poo the “opposition” away. The fact that they are trying to squash it relates proportionally to how they fear the message that’s getting out.
steveg: yes Fox News cloaks themselves in conservatism and has some real right-sided voices–but it doesn’t matter. Their job is to have the rightys happily viewing as they: bury most of the important stories, trumpet red herrings, refocus outrage, confuse. Haven’t you noticed they’ve become less conservative over time? The WH attack serves to cement our loyalty to the only percieved Fair media outlet. Very manipulative of them. I like blogs. And MarkLevinshow.com is free.
I wonder what would happen if a playwright wrote a play about assassinating Obama, or some writer wrote a book about doing it?
FOXFOXFOX
I totally agree, if the WH is so pushed out of shape over what is said on FOX about ACORN, Jones, Pelosi, Obama’s background,Ayers ETCETCETC….prove them wrong.
Man, somebody needs to send a couple of you names callers to your room. You have done weeweed alllll over yourselves!!
Two things-the news media HAS BEEN FAR LEFT my entire life-Huntley/Brinkley were far left, Walter the Croc of Sh*t was definitely a commie, even the sainted Edward R Murrows best friend committed suicide just before the FBI was going to arrest him for espionage. And now we have a new outrage. It appears ATTY GENERAL ERIC THE COMMIE SCUM HOLDER HAS FOLKS ON THER GOVT PAYROLL MONITORING SITES LIKE THIS, complete with written replies and postings. Funny, but something tells me the AGs office IS NOT supposed to be the MINISTRY OF PROPAGANDA. And this phony attempt at destroying Fox, even this silly cheap shot by the commie scum at Limbaugh buying MINORITY ownership in an NFL team shows how stupid this is getting. Does ANYONE in the media mention that SOROS , a CONVICT, tried to buy the Washington Nationals 2 years ago? Of course not, Soros is there hero and mastah, they have to be little plantation media and kiss Soros can.
How can this administration use taxpayers money to “wage war” on an organization for exercising it’s right to free speech?
The war on glen Beck and Fox News, and its other lead people, like much of the leftist stuff coming out of the Obama Administration, is right straight out of Rules for Radicals, the manifesto of Saul Alinsky, the founder of the “community orgtanizer” movement. Does anybody remember that, before Obama, Daley Sr., was the biggest name among the politician products of this movement.
I follow several newspapers, e.g. New York tiems and Washington Post on the left, Wall Street Journal, and CBS etc. TV news, and severalbut find that I watch Fox more because it offers more hard information than MSNBC,
etc.
Man, somebody needs to send a couple of you names callers to your room.
I agree. They are definitely the outcome of poor (or just plain stupid) parents/parenting. If I spewed the stupid crap they spew when I was a kid, my dad would have told me to grow up, STFU and get my head out of my butt.
@147. goy:
The question is: given that feeling of hatred and marginalization, would a sane, rational person willfully persist? The answer, of course, is no.
You’ve got this one twisted around pretty nicely. I’m not feeling any hatred or marginalization at all – you may hate me, and try to marginalize me, but I’m currently pretty satisfied with the fruits of my contributions.
So the question is: what is behind the persistence? Easily, the answer is a wildly overblown notion of one’s ability to sway some unseen collection of lurkers. Your consistent and systematic rejection of my point of view is hardly universal here. Heck, we’ve even agreed from time to time. The funny part is that you think I’m lying when I bring facts to bear and deconstruct your fantasy world. There are plenty of people here who are rational enough to recognize that there is more to the world that the word of goy.
All you reveal when you attack me is your own inability to address the topic at hand, and your obsession with personal attacks. Too bad. You might learn something if you would stop and pay attention.
These trolls do indeed “think like we all did in our teens and twenties”. And so we have another marker in favor of the notion that these poor souls are intellectually trapped and emotionally fixated in an adolescent morality, just as I’ve been observing for some time now.
In case you haven’t noticed, your ethics of authority and purity have become the dominant culture of the GOP, which has led to a massive flight of intelligent and rational people from the increasingly marginalized and hateful GOP. You see, your projection is so transparent, it is laughable. I’m not marginalized – my guy is in the white house, and the health care reform I have been fighting for for most of my life is almost law. I’m not hating – I’m loving every minute of it. I’m here to make sure you know it, too.
Peace.
Vivo, Jharp, Now and Then, David S
A little advice.
If you want to change any minds here, you need to learn to speak our language. If you want get anywhere with your arguments, you need to use logic and facts. Most commentators here are conservative, which means, we are “logic” people, not “feeling” people. “Feeling” people hang out over at sites like Huffington Post and CNN.com.
Explanation:
Logic is a process where a conclusion is following an established fact. So what you do is:
1) State the fact
2) State the conclusion.
If you just state the conclusion without the fact, you are not convincing anybody here.
Look at your comments, see if you can find the errors yourself. If you have difficulty, maybe you can get a friend or a teacher to help you.
The left has CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS and PBS. They are at least twice as far to the left as FOX is to the right. Yet the left must try to censor the opposition (remember when the opposition was patriotic? Only if you agree with the left).
Who has done this in the past? Who has done this lately? Now we see who the totalitarians really are.
I think this will help conservatives to stay focused on the threat possed to democracy in this country today.
We also see in this thread how liberals dehumanize those they disagree with.
In the past this makes it much easier to do what Ayers stated: 10 or 15 million Americans need to die to make the changes we want.
And just yesterday I learned that the Wall St. Journal has overtaken USA Today as the number 1 newspaper in America. All Rupert needs to do now is buy a spanish speaking news outlet, and turn it into the hispanic version of Fox News.
FOX should consider it an honor to be on this president’s enemies list.
We also see in this thread how liberals dehumanize those they disagree with.
In the past this makes it much easier to do what Ayers stated: 10 or 15 million Americans need to die to make the changes we want.
I will admit that I dehumanize them, but it’s a reactive and defensive dehumanization, based on the history of the Left globally, which is nothing but murder and destruction. By adhering to that ideology, they have dehumanized themselves in my eyes. I just don’t pretend that a real dialogue could be had with them any more than it could be had with the Ebola virus.
I’m currently pretty satisfied with the fruits of my contributions.
Even the parents of an ugly baby think it’s adorable.
This concept does not get enough exposure. While ignorance can explain a Hollywood type supporting the Progressive left plundering the productive class, too few people give much consideration to why the ultra wealthy would. Destroy savings and small investment through confiscatory taxation and you keep the cost of capitol high enough to suppress entrepreneurship.
…and the health care reform I have been fighting for for most of my life is almost law.
How’s that, peace guy ?
How, precisely, have you been fighting for health care reform most of your life?
Be specific.
Re assorted snarky posts in this thread about who Wall Street voted for. Peeking east over the Rockies, I got the impression that most people on Wall Street voted Democrat in the 2008 election. See this link as an example of how I got that impression.
I also understood that the creek-bed carrying Wall Street dollars to John McCain was dryer than a popcorn fart.
I certainly hope the trolls are not really in their teens and 20′s , although they are juvenile. They’re sadly lacking a social life if they are.
Yeah, psychologically they are mildly – very mildly – interesting. One has to wonder what behooves lefties to obsessively troll a conservative site and spit venom all day. HuffPo and Kos censor and delete those with opposing views, but even if they didn’t, I would have no desire to hang around at either site.
The trolls weak arguments do not convince, nor do they demoralize. In fact, they make me all the more determined to back conservative pols as much as I can. So what is the purpose? What twisted pyschological need is being met? The need to feed their self-righteousness? Or are they masochists?
Or perhaps they’re deeply passive gamma males in their day-to-day dealings with people and have to play pretend tough guys online.
Whatever they are, they sure ain’t normal.
Anyone else heard the rumor that Mr. Murdoch is looking into aquiring NBC?
Peeking east over the Rockies, I got the impression that most people on Wall Street voted Democrat in the 2008 election.
Which was a point already noted above by me. Obama fooled a lot of people, there’s no question about it. Although he clearly fooled fewer people among those who make over 6-figures:
http://www.historycentral.com/elections/12008/exit/Income.html
Note that the Warren Buffett’s of the world reside in that last bucket (over $200K) proving another point made above, that there does come a point where tax considerations take a back seat to wanting to be accepted in liberal society (although who knows why). Also, many people making that kind of coin make it from tax-free municipal bonds, so what does it matter what tax rates are when your income is all tax-free?
Anyway, he’ll fool fewer when he runs for re-election. I live in Chicago and have many Obama voters in my social circle. Obviously, they aren’t Leftist idiots like our resident trolls, just people who pay a little bit of attention to politics and thought Obama seemed better than McCain. Hardly any of them are as “into” Obama after seeing him in action for a few months and a few have basically said the GOP’s got their vote next time around (although that might not be true if Palin is the nominee, because they don’t like her).
Destroy savings and small investment through confiscatory taxation and you keep the cost of capitol high enough to suppress entrepreneurship.
Exactly so. Do Bill Gates and Steve Jobs want some lean and hungry competitor appearing on the scene? That is, perhaps, the Achilles heel of capitalism, that once someone makes it to the top of the heap, he wants to crush competition, not encourage it.
The GOP is the party of the middle class and small businessmen. These are the people who get crushed by taxes and regulation, not the Soros and Buffets of the world.
Nope – McCain’s Wall Street creek wasn’t dry, but the dollar creek from Wall Street to Obama turned into a river. Obama’s Wall Street contributions were twice those of McCain’s.
See http://www.thaindian.com/newsportal/india-news/obama-way-ahead-of-mccain-in-wall-street-firms-funding_10066375.html
That’s a very revealing graph, 2008 voting by income group.
There were all those folks in beleaguered Detroit last week, standing in line for a $3000 handout, very enthusiastically waiting for the free lunch promised by their candidate.
However, only a small number actually received any money.
The money from the Porkulus is being used as an administration slush fund. Very little has been dispensed in the name of the “emergency” that enabled its passage.
Watch for some big Porkulus expenditures next year, preceding the 2010 elections.
The point of the statists is to destroy capitalism and entrepreneurship through any means possible and to buy re-election from the true believers who aren’t aware of how they’re used, simply, as pawns in the game.
Westerncanadian, here’s a WSJ story by Robert Frank written during the 2008 campaign you might find interesting:
In Richistan, I wrote about a new political divide emerging among the wealthy. While most Lower Richistani’s ($1 million to $10 million in net worth) were voting Republican, most Middle-and Upper Richistanis (those worth $10 million plus and $100 million plus) were voting Democrat.
Some say Upper Richistanis can afford to minimize taxes, since they have plenty of money even after the government takes its share. Others say the ultra-rich have better tax attorneys so they don’t care as much about tax rates.
http://blogs.wsj.com/wealth/2008/10/13/the-rich-support-mccain-the-super-rich-support-obama/.
In a way, this divide is nothing new. The European aristocracy (and the artists they patronized) always despised the middle classes. FDR and JFK, who inherited family fortunes, had disdain for businessmen. JFK once said they were “SOBs.” Of course, one can understand how the son of prime SOB, crooked bootlegger Joseph Kennedy, formed that opinion. JFK thought they were all as corrupt and ruthless as his old man.
tanstaafl,
Yes, that graph reveals the “barbell” nature of the Left’s support, from the very poor and uneducated to the wealthy and half- and pseudo-educated, with very little support in the middle.
When I imagine how life in Lefty-land would be like once the country splits in two on ideological grounds (which I hope is soon because the only possible argument for keeping the country as one is “economies of scale” at the Federal level, but one can get almost all of the economies of scale of a 300 million person country with a 150 million person country, so that’s hardly compelling), I picture Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins trying to explain to the Crips and the Bloods that now that there are no more Rethuglicans around to spoil social harmony, they should put their guns down and hug it out. This is right before Sue and Tim get caps in their respective *sses.
#163 Commuter…..I looked at a graph the other day of the 2008 election results based on income, where the two lowest income groups voted dem 2 to 1, and the highest income group was almost 2 to 1 dem also.
The GOP is no longer the rich man party, and have made inroads as the middle and upper middle income party in the last two election cycles. With the Dems pushing hidden taxes to implement their spending programs it should only help the GOP more with the middle class in future elections.
As stated earlier, a hispanic version of Fox News would be a huge boost for the GOP to show that their values are more closely aligned with the platform of the republican party. .
Steveg – “There would not be a democrat party without the so called mainstream media propping it up.”
…and Obambi would not be in office if not for ACORN and SEIU. Believe it. As far as his little war on FOX, bring it on! The narcissism is so predictable.
Hey, vivo, jharp, David S. etc, now THE NATION is calling Obama “The Whiner-In-Chief” and is saying he really “needs to get over himself.”
Hmmmm, whassup? First lefty pundits like Katha Pollit write that Polanski’s butt should be behind bars, then writers at the WaPo admit Obama doesn’t deserve the NPP, and now this?
Gee, trolls, evil Karl Rove must be putting something in the water. Maybe instead of spending all your time here screeching and howling like rhesus monkeys in heat, your time would be more profitably spent making sure your fellow statists continue to toe the party line.
Even Andy Sullivan is p.o.ed at bambi.
It is ironic that, under tax cheat extraordinaire Timmy Geithner, the IRS has been going after undeclared “offshore” accounts the super wealthy use to place some of their income.
The grace period for these wealthy to up and confess is coming to a close, and, reportedly, they’re frantically consulting counsel and so forth so as to cover their backsides.
The federal tax on income didn’t even exist until early in the 20th century (16th amendment, 1913) and now we have a situation where the government feels entitled to ferret out and tax all monies, wherever they may be.
A conservative estimate is that 41¢ of every federal dollar spent is wasted. Completely and totally wasted. Most estimates are higher, 55¢ or more.
America Will Work 8 Days Less to Pay Taxes in 2009 than in 2008; Recession, Stimulus Package Push Date of Celebration Up.
Tax freedom day (“the day in the year when we have earned enough income to pay our total tax bill for the year” )is projected to be 8 days earlier this year, April 13, “thanks to” the recession.
An upside to the recession, whoda thunkit ?
If the federal government didn’t throw about half of every dollar down the sh!thole, your tax freedom day could be so much sooner !
Lucky you
No, you dolt. It ain’t because of the recession.
It’s because Obama cut taxes for 95% of us.
Sheesh. God help us. The ignorance needs to stop.
@167. Donna V.: – HuffPo and Kos censor and delete those with opposing views, but even if they didn’t, I would have no desire to hang around at either site.
Of course not. And that’s the difference, isn’t it.
The inherently flawed, adolescent morality to which the left clings cannot withstand the slings and arrows of facts and reason, and must therefore hide from them by banning those who would employ them. Conversely, an inherently holistic, comprehensive morality has no problem with petty trolls’ tirades because they’re simply not a threat to the facts, to history, or to the observable reality of Darwinian human nature.
More on topic, the “Hitler’s Bunker” mentality that rules sites like dKos and (now) LGF – straining in vain against the inexorable reality that (guess what!) all Americans aren’t really stupid and the jig is up – has now manifested in the White House itself, of all places! This shouldn’t come as any surprise, really, since the cadre of college sophomores now in charge there epitomizes the intolerant, hysterical, screaming left. BHO’s administration has literally “trollrated” Fox News because FNC daily utters the realities they can’t bear to hear, reminding them that they don’t enjoy the mandate they fantasized; reminding them that they’ve accomplished nothing; reminding them that a Republic is not ruled, but served; reminding them that their time is already run out.
- So what is the purpose? What twisted pyschological need is being met? … are they masochists?
No, it’s much simpler – David S explains quite plainly below…
.
@156. David S: – …I’m currently pretty satisfied with the fruits of my contributions.
And those fruits would be… what, an endless river of baseless assertions, sweeping generalizations, appeal to authority fallacy, straw man fantasy, delusions of personal persecution and generally unsound rhetoric extolling ideologies that have failed every time they’ve been tried? Because those are the only ‘fruits’ your copy/pasted, passive-aggressive, adolescent morality have made available to the objective observer, Zippy. Hard to see how that would be satisfying, until you utter the magic words…
- I’m loving every minute of it. I’m here to make sure you know it, too.
Thank you for taking the bait, and declaring that – in the end, like all trolls – you’re here to feed your fragile, juvenile ego through a pretense of superiority over people you don’t know and ideas you don’t comprehend.
Congratulations, Zippy, you’ve become the blind, willing fuel that’s been exploited by every collectivist “youth movement” in history. You’re a willing dupe. Revel in it while you can, because history demonstrates with relentless, mind-numbing redundancy that the useful idiots – like yourself – are always the first ones pushed to the Front by the nomenklatura – or the first ones hunted down by the partisans – when things start to get ugly. You’d better slow down on the beer and start doing your sit-ups, because your false god appears quite intent on pushing things to the ‘ugly’ point.
All glory – even the stolen, fraudulent glory you’re clinging to right now – is fleeting, Zippy. Your inability to recognize and grow beyond your brainwashing will ensure that the obscurity you’ll endure, after it fades, will indeed be forever.
(well, I guess the peace guy finds justifiying his vapid, grandiose claim too hard)
Barack Obama avoids foxnews because someone might say (unlike the subservient ideologues in the MSM) …
“ya know, Barry, the position you articulated last week of accepting “some” Taliban influence/presence in an Afghan government is, given the intimacy, sworn loyalty etc. of taliban/al qaeda/parts of pakistani ISI, tantamount to formally re-inviting AQ back into Afghanistan.”
Is that, you know, sane American foreign policy ?
And Barack Obama hasn’t cut jack sh!t, unless you consider something like $15/month for the average taxpayer, the specifics of which I don’t recall at the moment.
As we speak, Nancy P & friends are touting an additional VAT tax to pay for all the useless sh!t the statists are advancing on the federal level.
Steveg #71: The trolls have no answer for you. Only a hypocrite could argue that fox news should be stonewalled due to bias. I remain disgusted by the left wing media’s reporting on the War in Iraq, and no matter how biased Fox news appears to be they don’t scratch the surface of that shameful episode of reporting.
Am I missing something here or is this grounds for impeachment? How can the president’s administration openly declare that he will not engage with Fox when Fox has this kind of viewership?
He can’t just deny unclassified information to the press and to Americans. He’s not allowed to pick and choose which questions he wants to answer. Freedom of press described under the first amendment defines a free press as one who has dissenting views toward the government. Saying that they will not engage with Fox because Fox is the ‘enemy’ is pretty much the stupidest thing this administration could say.
Yes. You are missing the simple fact that you are a moron and haven’t the slightest clue of what is going on.
Yet don’t be alarmed. Our country is in good hands. The George Bush/Republican Congress nightmare is over.
For anyone really interested in an analysis on what drove the date for tax freedom day in 2009 and what is anticipated for 2010.
http://www.taxfoundation.org/taxfreedomday/
What falls out is that there are two accepted methods of calculating the date. The first is more simplistic in that it does not include the effects of deficit spending by the government. Since the whole point of calculating tax freedom day is to get a handle on what we actually pay for government, the second method is getting more traction as time goes on. The rationale for this is not dealt with in any depth on the Tax Foundation’s site. They’ve been around a long time and do have a vested interest in their own historical methodology. However, if you spend a little time researching the argument for including deficit spending, it’s a valid one and pushes tax freedom day out to May 29th of 2009, the latest in US history.
And you snivel and whine about it.
More projection, which is all the left does. When even the Nation calls jharp’s Messiah “The whiner in chief” you know there’s a real crybaby in the WH.
Good WSJ blog article – thank you.
190. jharp:Incorrect.
according to wikipedia
1.)The term tax credit describes two different concepts:
A recognition of partial payment already made towards taxes due.
A state benefit paid to workers through the tax system, which has the effect of increasing (rather than reducing) net income.
2.)A tax cut is a reduction in taxes. Economic stimulus via tax cuts, along with interest rate intervention and deficit spending, are one of the central tenets of Keynesian economics
jharp
Cut taxes for 95%. Wow, also cut off increases in Social Security to seniors, cut tax credit for charitable gifts, going to tax health benefits, going to put 250 million in the IMF for the international community to draw on, is taking over all rivers, lakes and streams which will end sport fishing ($125 billion a year industry) now attacking the media. The administration is using taxpayer money to host a website to go after FOX, Bloggers and anyone else who disagrees with them. Bernanke is estroying the US economy and you’re happy. Your lack of insight is amazing. So is your lack of knowledge.
So this administration thinks Fox is not a real news organization but was happy to take it’s first question from that scion of legitimate journalism called the Huffington post.
They look more pathetic by the day.
Change.
I haven’t seen him show clue one about taxes, business, or the economy. He just parrots talking points like every other marching moron the progressive left promises a free lunch to. Or in this tool’s case, considering his obsession with teabagging, probably a different sort of reward altogether.
Yeah, if only Obama had a hard-hitting journalist like Jeff Gannon asking the tough questions. You remember Gannon, right pajamas? He’s the guy who was Karl Rove’s butt-boy who was planted in W’s press conferences (the few that ever happened) to ask hard questions. Because Gannon, who was Rove’s butt-boy, was such a hard, hard-hitting journalist. Oh, what a fine example the Republicans set! How we miss them!
Probably the most entertaining comment thread here I’ve seen in awhile.
Gotta hand it to jharp, vivo, David S – you guys are displaying qualities of future great Americans, no matter how sharply we disagree. Because you are willing to stand up and be heard, and you believe in something – that is indeed what the country was founded on. The founding fathers hit upon a concept that allowed the individual to prosper from his own labors; a concept unheard of in Europe at the time – and simultaneously enjoy the free and liberal right to say and pray to whatever/whoever they wished.
jharp, vivo, David S, it is very significant that you are here at PJM and you are able to engage in a lively little discussion. Significant because it is so very American to do what we’re all doing in this thread. It would not be the same without you guys.
And you guys are benefitting particularly from being at PJM, in a way that the rest of us cannot. Like many others on this thread, I have been censored and deleted enough from HuffPo and Kos so that I gave up. For comments that only disagreed with the poster.
So in a curious bit of consequence, you guys – just like us – must leave Liberal blogs if you want a complete discussion with both sides of an issue.
So what has happened to the meaning of “Liberal”?
As you guys get older, this fact will start to make you wonder. Then you’ll begin to think about it a lot. And eventually other points of information with start to coalesce and one day you will wake up and find that you can’t stomach it any more. You will want to start loving your country and all the incredible people and deeds that made it so great.
That’s been the journey of all of us on this thread since our own days in college, just like you, pissed we weren’t making a dime and out to blame The Man.
Has Obama’s administration gone off the deep end? And the other news networks are ” legitimate ?” Our President needs to understand that not all news sources are his cheerleaders.
@ Air2air, quick question: is there a single “conservative” Republican who isn’t a closet knob-goblin? Just wondering. It’d be nice to think that at least a few of you are really who you say you are, and not just self-hating knob-goblers. Thanks again!
nice comment Air2Air, and one that I agree with.
Scrolling through all the vituperation…it’s sorta funny in a way. But the down side is that decent reasonable people don’t want to wade into the noxious stream…and what I would guess is that posters like Now and Then, jharp (who once upon a time was single issue poster for health care but has now changed his stance, so I have to assume that Soros has changed the issue he wants engaged) and the others are posting the noxious stuff in order to reduce the dialog from people who want to post serious points of view and discuss their thoughts in measured means.
Of course that’s just a guess…it’s been some time for me since I engaged in polemical discussions with Leftists…but I do remember how quickly apostates would be branded as Trotskyists.
Sure, Obamacare did pass all five committees, but nothing has hit the floor yet. Only one bill can go to each floor, which means they still have to hash out the bill in conference committee. Once something actually hits the floor, then we’ll see what the actual support is. The Baucus bill is the mildest of the five, and odds are the final bill won’t look anything like it, which makes it that much harder to pass on the floor. Lieberman already promised not to support Obamacare on the Senate floor, which means that the final bill needs to flip Sen. Snowe in order to break a filibuster, provided no one else jumps ship and Byrd is out of the hospital when it comes time to vote. You guys haven’t won anything yet.
When did we cross the line from disagreement = free speech to disagreement = hate speech. I DO NOT hate the POTUS, FLOTUS, Speaker or Majority Leader. I disagree with them, violently sometimes but I do not hate them.
What I expect from the Media is that they give me the facts no matter what they are, so that I can decide for myself. Anyone who gets in the way of my being able to access the facts will no longer have my support. Hence the disintegration of the Main Stream and Drive By Media. I can’t count on them telling me the truth, so I get my news elsewhere.
CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC et al are nothing but apologists and advertisers for Team O’Bama. Our forefathers are spinning in their graves. But Lenin, Marx and Stalin are having Black Russians in Hell. Sigh.
Just in case you didn’t know that’s a drink made with Vodka popular in the 80′s. No offense intended, however it is somewhat offensive that I have to even qualify this. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar…. oh dear, I did it again. My bad.
I am no Obama fan, voted for someone else and don’t intend to vote for him next time.
However, having a week-end place in Mexico, Fox News is one of the few English speaking channels I can get and I have never, NEVER, heard any newscaster NOT put the President down in some form or manner.
I don’t think I’d place much faith in the veracity of anything that harpo claims about his life. I suspect that most if not all of it is just a construct that he thinks gives his nonsense credibility. Just taking into account his lack of understanding of some of the simplest business concepts and his immediate fall back position when called on it (not even a token effort to defend his statements but always that immediate screech that everyone else is ignorant but him) is a tell. His claims that health issues in his family have driven him to become an ‘expert’ on health care reform, while he can’t understand the simplest of the statistics he quotes is a tell. The most glaring tell is what his standard choices of insults say about his sophistication and maturity. Someone who obsesses over ‘teabagging’, who tells folks to ‘put down the bong’, or ‘put down the crack pipe’, and whose immediate response when called on his ludicrous statements is to call everyone a liar, is not someone who’s been knocked about by life long enough to raise a family much less be successful at business for the 20 or 30 years he claims.
The hard parts about creating a fantasy life is resisting the urge to fine tune it (you get tied up in knots eventually claiming both seasonal business to explain your free time and friends on Wall Street), establishing enough depth to your fantasy character to be able to defend the character’s claim to expertise (harpo’s a miserable failure at that part), and above all be able to relate real life experiences that have the ring of truth (and harpo’s tales of his ‘republican’ golfing buddies respect for his politics doesn’t come close).
The tells are all there. He’s young, he’s in a dead end job, he’s a failure at relationships, and he’s dialed into letting others do his thinking (a tool) and he spends every free moment, hours every day, looking to validate that choice.
Classic troll. Been around since the bulletin board days.
Thank you for your heartfelt comments. I agree that this is a great site. I learn something almost every day. But you are labeling me liberal. Nothing wrong with that, it’s just that I don’t profess partisanship or ideological identifications. I stand by my own beliefs and identify with what I think is the right thing. I base my ideas on facts, not hearsay. I follow behavior, not speeches and promises. And I agree to disagree.
As I get older, I realize that I know less than before: the World changes constantly and the needs and solutions are different.
Logic is a process where a conclusion is following an established fact. So what you do is:
1) State the fact
2) State the conclusion.”
1)I hear what you say.
2) I do it all the time.
There you have it!
I’ve seen video of obama being interviewed by o’reilly, and from what I saw he’s more than up to the job. On the other hand, by acknowledging fox he just lends credibility to an organisation that’s happy to just make stuff up to support its partisan agenda – which is pretty must entirely directed against obama.
Personally, if I were him, I wouldn’t be shutting fox out, but given his history with them, I can’t blame him. Lets not forget who it was who started the smearing with the claims of obama’s education in an indonesian madrassa. They could have trivially checked their facts, but they didn’t. They didn’t care, they weren’t interested. They did some basic googling and made up the rest. Their “news” piece was a calculated, targeted smear against a senator they didn’t like. Obama owes them nothing, and he knows that any footage he gives them will be manipulated and lied about. They’re not a news organisation, they’re a money-making organisation.
Now – I partially agree with what most people will say about other sources of news. But that’s not obama’s problem. His problem is getting things done and (maybe) getting re-elected. He has no obligation to go after his supporters. That’s fox’s job
I repeat – obama is more than a match for o’reilly. But fox has earned its disrespect, and they’ve got nobody to blame but themselves.
Can you see it now?
It’s fun watching you righties whine. Seriously, you guys provide nonstop entertainment for the rest of us. Keep it up. Nothing as funny as watching grown conservatives whining like little babies.
Reading this site, it’s no wonder you conservatives are out of power. You whine like losers. Stop whining, seriously, all you’re doing is entertaining the rest of us and making us laugh. “Waaahhh! Obama bla bla! Waaahhh!” Pathetic.
Let’s fight Obama back! Let’s declare war on Obama’s news stations! No one. Absolutely no one who is upset about the direction the country is taking should be watching CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, and NBC. Turn them off!
We can all make a difference with our eyeballs and time. These liberal news organizations cannot survive without viewers. They need an audience in order to get advertising money. If we stop watching them, we cut off their ad money, which will eventually lead to their demise.
Besides voting out the Democrats and RINOs, we’ve got to do something to stop the corrupt news organizations from spewing propaganda everyday. We can do it! Don’t watch CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, and NBC. Let them go down with Obama.
I’ve watched this comment thread get longer and longer, becoming ridiculous and more ridiculous.
Apparently, it has taken the mind of a Goy, (comment 214) backed up with a guy with the moniker “Rashputin” (comment #236) to pick up on the really important events in the news.
Your currency no longer has reserve status.
So, Obama and his goons go after FAUX news! It’s news to you that America is not a democracy? Come one, wake up! All you are seeing is a fascist wanna-be trying to exercise more thorough control of the media, going after the most obviously hostile folks first.
The news is that not only are you not a democracy, your currency is now no longer the front row player it used to be. That means, among other things, that you will not be able to bully foreign nations (like Israel) by with-holding your money from them. With-holding toilet paper? Aw, whatta shame – we’ll just use banana leaves.
Now, go re-read that long, long comment I submitted here a day or two ago (comment #7) – tzulmá d’rodós, kad ityahév l’gros, karív egrós, romí l’harós!. It’s all about you guys and the fall of the New Colossus (of Rhodes) – the Statue of Liberty! The only question is whether that fall will be a literal fall – or symbolic. If it’s the latter, you are seeing it in progress now.
I think you’d have a better chance of success by reverting to wishing your opponents death like you have done several times in the past.
What I post here is the truth. Deal with it. Loser.
jharp, I’m not the one with a crippled kid and a going-nowhere business.
Death should be sweet release for you.
Although I’ve been sidetracked into responding to idiots like jharp, I fully agree this is the important development of the past few months, and, really, years.
Our weak dollar policy only benefits a country that exports commodities and is in contradiction to the reality that the US has to be a provider of higher value-add goods because we priced ourselves out of the commodity markets via extensive labor and environmental regulations.
Brad DeLong, with whom I typically disagree, had a good way of posing the dichotomy between a strong and a weak dollar. Full disclosure: the strong dollar scenario helps me, so I favor it. As of now, my labor inputs and outputs are not commodities, in the common sense of the term.
http://seekingalpha.com/article/111530-krugman-s-return-of-depression-economics-what-if-the-dollar-doesn-t-fall
“What is going to be the new leading sector? What is going to allow us to maintain full employment without running huge long-term budget deficits that will, eventually, sap our rate of economic growth somewhat?
If it weren’t for the fact that the furshlugginer dollar refuses to fall in value, the answer would be obvious: we will have a boom in import-competing manufacturing (and exports). But then the rest of the world has a long-run problem: if we decide to no longer be the world’s importer of last resort, then what serves as a locomotive to keep it near full employment?
But if the dollar doesn’t fall, then we have a long-run problem. The only answer I can think of is for the U.S. to then become the world’s largest private-equity fund: they lend us their money, and we then invest the money back in their economies–in industries and companies that then have a very high demand for U.S. high-tech goods and for U.S. services exports.”
Apparently, in deference to the low value-added sectors of the economy, policy-makers have decided to try option 1 first. However, it won’t work because of our external indebtedness and the inability to finance our deficits ourselves, under the current economic configuration. New laws forcing Americans to fund these deficits could very well be enacted, as the situation becomes more dire. I am formulating my exit strategy as we speak.
And the resident moron somehow deducts that my glee over the Baucus bill getting a most excellent CBO rating translates into me supporting the bill.
It’s “deduces”, not “deducts”. Your lack of education is showing. Fine, your orgasmic reaction to the CBO and your support of the bill are two separate issues. No big whoop.
vivo, you can make every excuse under the sun. The fact is it requires little/ no thought to insert a ridiculous comment rather than resembling a form of conversation or invoke a form of discussion.
Your and many other posters comments resemble those of prepubescent comments expected on Mtv or other teen sites.
Sadly commenter jharp spoke of their ‘..sophomore son..’ -
jharp’s ignorance and inability to carry on a lucid discussion is always on display. Voluntarily. This person having an impressionable teenager.. beyond belief.
And open up wide. It’s about to be shoved down your throat.(jharp)
This is power to a PJM troll.
The federal government is about to act, as their proxy, to shove something down your throat.
Thanks for the kind words, VVV. If you are developing an “exit strategy”, and you can afford it, I seriously suggest buying a troy scale, a very sharp tool, and several (at least 10) 1 oz. gold coins. If currencies collapse, a period of uncertainty is sure to follow.
Other countries will hang on to the dollar as long as they feel they can, just to avoid the terrible uncertainty a currency collapse could entail. But with time, the dollar will begin to go, and all the Wall Street men trying to revive the golden goose or put the egg together again will not reverse what is happening.
America, so eager to throw Israel under the bus, will find itself thrown under a bus, and ten gold coins might well be a life-saver in hard and scary times. I wish I could afford to follow my own advice, VVV. I can’t.
I find all corporate news to be more propaganda than anything else. The agenda is to manipulate opinion rather than to inform. What these info-tainment sources are best at is keeping the American population divided by a false right/left, red/blue, conserv/lib paradigm designed to anger and distract while the assets of this country are plundered by well connected plutocrats and oligarchs.
I have watched FOXNEWS periodically, but the partisan way subjects are covered, how opposition “guests” are skewered and badgered and lack of deserved Republican Party criticism (when balance requires it) has me getting my news from sources from various countries around the world. At least one can weigh the relative strengths of facts/ideas presented.
It is disturbing to me that so many Americans use only one news source for their information. We seem to gravitate to sources that confirm our own inherant biases. Perhaps a poorly informed citizenry is the real reasons that the United States is on the ropes. Yes, I consider the collapse of the dollar as the world reserve currency being on the ropes.
Then again, I supported Ron Paul the last time around and still do. Obama understands that FOXNEWS viewers will never support him because he is painted as the enemy of what they hold dear. Example…The libs, under Obama, want to take away you gun rights. The fact is that this administration relaxed restrictions on bringing firearms into National Parks. How prominently was that fact reported on FOX?
The federal government is about to act, as their proxy, to shove something down your throat.
Yes, which is why I consider them no better than common thieves, only more cowardly.
If currencies collapse, a period of uncertainty is sure to follow.
We’ll see if the transition to the “currency basket” concept being tossed around as a replacement for the dollar gains traction.
The one thing I do know is that the powers that be don’t want a currency collapse. The question is whether or not they can avoid one, regardless.
The destruction of the middle class is a required step on the road to tyranny. The middle class are the only mass demographic who are not, by default, given to a particular political affiliation by their circumstances. They have the ability, and the freedom to absorb information from all sides and make educated decisions in a relativly bi-partisan manner. The ultra-rich and the ultra-destitute by comparison have eveything to gain and nothing to lose in a totalitarian state. The wedge is being driven deeper by the hour. Divide and conquer, a strategy as affective as it is old.
Regardless of political affiliation these are dark times for anyone who values freedom. These are tragic times for America. As Ruvy stated – will our fall be literal or symbolic? Only time will tell.
I really dig the mention of dropping the dollar as a reserve currency. Anyone who has been paying attention knows that the dollar devaluation was a major policy of the Bush administration. Just check the numbers – been dropping since ’01.
Peace.
It’s official. vivo is not in touch with reality. The idiot can’t see that abc, nbc, cnn, cnbc, nyt, etc, etc, etc….. are Leftist Media Outlets. Its head is in the sand or up its a$$.
Considering that Dr. Paul is one of the few who anticipated the financial crisis, paying close attention to his Austrian-school analysis is probably not the worst thing you could be doing.
The people currently in charge of fiscal and monetary policy have already proven that they were unable to recognize a bubble and the signs of collapse right in front of their very noses. They are continuing the borrow/spend/tax regime which brought us to this point. Isn’t it time to look for alternative solutions?
Sewer rats (aka leftists) don’t realize they live in filth. It’s just their normal environment.
Fox News is brain-rotting, right wing crap, and they’ve been snidely dogging Obama since even before he was elected. Obama *should* be telling them to f*ck off, given the way they can’t even pass stories without giving them the good old neocon treatment. Fox’s ratings success probably comes from them behaving much more like talk radio guys huffing and puffing about sport rather than that of a serious news organization committed to informing rather than disinforming.
62 jharp
Easy silly. By even acknowledging their presence gives Fox undeserved credibility. Didn’t you mother ever teach you to ignore name callers and folks who lie about you?
Yup, every time Obama is on the TV I ignore him for just those reasons.
I hope the usual suspects here don’t have to suffer under what they so greatly desire. And they would suffer because only the super wealthy and the “elected” officials will be imune to the horrible place this could become. Just look at USSR, Cuba and every other country that silences those with other views. Just look at Obama’s recent appointments. Some of these guys in the not distant past have been quoting Lenin and Moa as if they were something to be admired and emulated.
And no, Fox News isn’t brain rotting. I know it hurts some of you but that is the brain trying to expand and understand. CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBC and ABC have been misinforming the public for most of 30 years. They are very slick at it but when you add up what thedy day and what they don’t it is screamingly obvious.
jharp
It’s because Obama cut taxes for 95% of us.
Gee, I guess the check is lost in the mail.
Ignorance on your part at best, deliberate misinformation at worst.
The dollar was deliberately overvalued by China and others for quite some time in order to make their exports to us cheaper and keep their economies flying high. Fighting that overvaluation with a controlled ½% to 1% per year devaluation is one thing, devaluing the currency by ten percent since March is not a controlled devaluation policy, it’s a collapse. A collapse based on TRILLIONS of dollars in new debt since March of 2009 and promises of trillions more in debt to follow.
Saying the change in reserve status has anything to do with Bush is pure bunk. It’s like blaming the housing mess on Bush after he tried for five years in a row to get new restraining regulations in place. It was Bawknee Fwank who was telling everyone there was no problem while forcing lenders to keep making bad loans, not Bush or anyone in the Bush administration. The trillions Obama went in the hole just with GM will knock the dollar down by 10%, and the “stimulus” bill that wastes money rather than making capital investments insures the dollar will go down another 10% on top of that. Neither of those have a thing in the world to do with Bush, they’re 100% pure Obama pooper on a bun. Go on with the “it’s Bush’s fault” stuff if it makes you feel better, but it won’t alter the FACT that the damage done since March of this year is due to Obama and Obama alone.
We’re headed back to the turn of the 20th century, not the turn of the 21st, and doing so will sweep away sixty years of socialist liberal policies. It’s a shame we had to do it the hard way, but that’s the price you pay for feel good education rather than real education and situational ethics rather than real ethics. Gee, it’s kinda like Romans 1:17-32 is a statement of fact instead of BS.
- … dollar devaluation was a major policy …
More typical Zippy-headed stupidity. Clearly you just love broadcasting proof of your unsuccessful education. You just can’t resist blaming ANYTHING else for the failures of socialism.
Conflate currency inflation and massive debt hyperinflation much? Here’s a clue regarding the difference: the former has been ongoing for decades; the latter has been ongoing since February 2009.
- Just check the numbers – been dropping since ‘01.
The value of the dollar has been dropping since FDR’s so-called “New Deal”, you moron. That would be the failed and largely unconstitutional “New Deal” BHO is using as a model to destroy America.
Not until the Democrats’ suicidal economic policies went into effect this year did the rest of the world suddenly decide that the U.S.A. is now so irretrievably deep in unwarranted debt and such a bad credit risk – due to massive deficit spending, unprecedented in all of human history – that they don’t want to hold our promissory notes as reserve currency any longer.
Of course, this is all going exactly according to the socialists’ master plan for America:
0. Regulate, distort and corrupt all free markets to the point of dysfunction, then claim free markets don’t work.
1. Destroy the dollar and destroy the U.S.A. economically under the pretense of “helping the poor”.
2. Nurture multiple crises during and resulting from the collapse.
3. Declare the outdated Constitution and “greed-based” Capitalism to be at fault.
4. Replace the U.S.A. with a Spanglish-speaking version of the USSR.
5. Rinse.
6. Repeat.
Just cuz i know you’ll deny it all:
No pretense of authorship there. But we both know that’s not the issue. It’s Rush. Rush is the issue. Those quotes, they’re all true. They matter to me. They don’t matter to you. They should. But they don’t. And you’re diminished for it. Diminished for your tacit defense of a bigot. A defense based in a larger sense of social entitlement common among conservatives. “I want it, so I should get it.” A sense that manifests itself here in the misguided idea that El Rushbo has somehow been wronged. It was just the capitalist system at work – Limbaugh dumped by his would-be partners. Why? Because he was getting in the way of their investment. All true. You don’t like it. But it’s true.
Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Bill O’Reilly, Ann Coulter – they’re all part of the same Foxian Machine. I watch them all. I know what I see and hear. Now, as for your thoughts on the value of the dollar and how that connects to this post about Fox News . . . sorry, lost my train of thought . . . I’ll let you fill in that blank.
Now, I’m expecting less and less from you as time goes on. Your once moderately informed confusion has devolved into the picayune. It hurts to even type this, but I think you need an example . . . “CLUEBAT.”
So, where does that leave us? Well, you’ve been set straight, but I don’t expect it to last. So let’s focus on the positive. Now you’re prepared for the ensuing Limbaughpalooza sure to rear its bloated, gaseous head here on PJM. The key phrase I think you should share is “El Rushbo got bitch slapped.” Has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?
(Don’t worry. No invoice. This one was on me. Say, did you ever go all in with trip kings only to see the other guy slow roll a nut flush?)
I was in a hurry when I wrote comment #288 this morning – I had to go to Jerusalem to argue with bureacrats over a considerable sum of money they owe us – and keep finding the most creative reasons for not paying, even though they admit they owe us the money.
Even though I have always been a syndicalist socialist (the only kind of socialist who really believes in free enterprise and the virtues of competition), the statist version of socialism is the most frustratingly oppressive pile of dung and BS one can be burdened with.
kaH mispár v’nitapél b’khá b’tor… “Take a number and we’ll take care of you in your turn….” “Taking care of you” is just another version of “helping you out” – the door.
I’m not being fair to the young lady I dealt with today. I’m just pissed off. The truth of the matter is that when I was there last two weeks ago, she did her best to help me. It is not her fault if the government keeps tweaking the computer system and slows down operations because of it. It’s not her fault if we haven’t received money that we ought to have received in June.
But in the meantime, the rent, the electricity, the cell phone, the telephone all go unpaid – and finding enough money to put food on the table for Shabbát is a real problem!
Statist socialism sucks big time!
But for all of my personal problems, the fact remains that Israel’s foreign reserve sits at about $60 billion – and Stan Fischer (CFR), the imported rag-sheeny running the Bank of Israel, can afford to buy $100 million in dollars to prop up the dollar against the shekel – and anybody with half a brain here in Israel knows that the dollar is on the way down the toilet – just the way the Israeli pound/shekel was a few decades ago – and for roughly the same reasons. You cannot print money with no backing and expect to get away scot-free.
To us looking at you overseas, your “health care” debate is a huge joke, your stimulus packages are a fatal O/D on “cheap money” that will bite you in the short hairs in the near future. I agree completely, but ‘just plain common sense’ is something we are in very short supply of in America.
so the dollar is no longer the reserve currency, this is significant for the folks who believe the fantasy that fiat paper money really IS.
I would be concerned if it were not for the fact that we have been a de facto plutonium-based currency since 1945.
And here in America, we still can use pits of brass, lead and gilding-metal…ammunition…for paocket-barter “money”.
The game has ALWAYS been about commodities…stuff that is inherently valuable and useful, stuff that takes work just to produce in raw form…any of you ever done any mining? Know how many tons of ore is required to produce an ounce of gold?
A Federal Reserve note is really only valuable for snorting yay-yo, and only an egotistical imbecile sacrifices a quantum of Peruvian Happy Nasal Flakes,(itself a valuable commodity), for the sake of looking like a half-assed big-shot when McDonald’s will give you a smooth-sided and sterile drinking straw at no charge.
Faced with the unprecedented global verdict of no confidence in his handling of America’s economy, the American public’s growing verdict of no confidence in his socialist health care scheme, and his growing unpopularity, it’s no wonder that a self-absorbed and incompetent boob like the Nobel Prize-winning Alleged Hawaiian seeks to distract himself from what he should be doing by this quixotic tilting at Fox News.
Fox is getting the public affirmation and support, in the guise of it’s ratings victories, that Obama is losing at the polls and in America’s “prestige” worldwide.
I do not want to be a conspiracy theorist; however, my observations make me wonder if some of the concerns voiced in the article about controlling media–especially the internet–aren’t already taking place to a limited degree.
Never before have I been so concerned about the direction our government is headed.
I am white, born in the 1930s in Missouri and guess I would fit the profile of a racist. I AM NOT. A black doctor saved the lives of two of my babies, I have had black friends all my adult life, and have been in positions to hire and promote many black people (and done so). That said . . .
I was proud that americans finally accepted that a black could be their president. Unfortunately, this president has, in my opinion, set the cause of black people back many generations by his pettiness, his arrogance, and his apparent ignorance. Why doesn’t he address the multitudinous problems facing America instead of wasting time and effort bickering with Fox news. Has he never heard “sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me”? . . Unless there is truth in them….
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY Is it that politics tend to corrupt, or that corrupt men tend to become politicians??
Where are the WH priorities?
I’ll tell you. They are foaming at the mouth incensed that a network has journalists and investigators who are skilled and capable of reporting on issues and agendas that this “transparent” administration doesn’t want revealed.
They are enraged that FOX opens the doors and windows for the world to get a glimpse of the administration’s ties to ACORN and political boiler room dealings that are the exact opposite of what the kool-aid train promised. So they waste taxpayer dollars strong arming FOX and attempting to sway advertisers and consumers away from this venue by smearing them.
They preach tolerance out of one side of their mouths but use every in-the-bag media tool available to muzzle any view that credibly opposes theirs.
If they could rewrite the US constitution – which they now call a “living” document – they would tweak in a well crafted clause that would bookend freedom of the press to “acceptable” opposition. Who knows, the new SCOTUS might just hammer that out.
History, unless we ignore it (Iran) or rewrite it, teaches us that controlling or socializing the media ends badly for the citizens.
Ask the journalists, reporters and anchors in the MSM to recite the Journalist’s Creed. Their eyes will glaze over – because they’ve never even read it. Or they will immediately attack you like the White House is doing to FOX- a sign that they fear exposure.
Need proof?!?
TEL AVIV, Israel, Oct. 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — President Obama’s presidential campaign focused on “making” the news media cover certain issues while rarely communicating anything to the press unless it was “controlled,” White House Communications Director Anita Dunn disclosed to the Dominican government at a videotaped conference. The story, recently reported by Aaron Klein of WND.com, has also been linked to the Drudge Report.
“Very rarely did we communicate through the press anything that we didn’t absolutely control,” said Dunn.
“One of the reasons we did so many of the David Plouffe videos was not just for our supporters, but also because it was a way for us to get our message out without having to actually talk to reporters,” said Dunn, referring to Plouffe, who was Obama’s chief campaign manager.
“We just put that out there and made them write what Plouffe had said as opposed to Plouffe doing an interview with a reporter. So it was very much we controlled it as opposed to the press controlled it,” Dunn said.
My, my…Uncle Joe would be proud!
