Pelosi: The Witch Jumps the Broom
No danger of Nancy Pelosi “jumping the shark.” No self-respecting shark would come within miles of La Pelsoa. No, Madame Speaker is a witch, so she must jump the broom. And jump the broom she did today, winging her way off the reservation with her squadron of flying monkeys by taking nasty swipes at the President for – hold onto your seats – not living up to his campaign promises on health care. (Maybe she can provide some potions from her cauldron to make up for it)
Is this bad for Obama? I think not. It may be one of of the few good things to have happened to him in the last year. If there’s anyone more disdained than Barack Obama at this moment, it’s Nancy Pelosi, who is closed to the least liked American citizen? So maybe this was planned to build sympathy for the President. The next step in this Machiavellian plot would be for Chris Dodd to take a parting shot at Obama when he walks away from his “distinguished” career in the Senate. Better yet, Dodd could offer a couple of weeks gratis at the soon-to-be-former Senator’s Irish vacation cottage. Then Obama could decline because “That would be wrong.” [Where have we heard that before?-ed. Oh, you know.]

Nancy Pelosi on a gut level knows that the health care bill must be killed. It has already cost the Democratic Party congressional members an incredible amount of grief—and inevitable serious loses on Election Day. The price tag is just too great to pay. Moreover, the Republicans will simply reverse everything after they reacquire power. This is a train ultimately going nowhere. The hell with Obama’s ego trip and his place in the history books. Pelosi is worrying about herself. Obama certainly isn’t. The odds are right now that Pelosi will no longer be House leader in 2011. She is fit to be tied.
No that some key Democrat Reps. and Senators have announced that they do not plan to stand for re-election, will this affect the outcome of the health care bill?
I’d be hard pressed to believe that Queen Bee Nancy was, in fact, jumping anything, shark OR broom, when it came to serving “her” President.
Barack even went out of his way recently to mention “Nancy” in some recent public download of his, er, thoughts.
However, her statement yesterday in responding to the C-Span request for access to healthcare hearings that this process has been the most transparent imaginable shows to go you that said Witch is definitely on the verge of losing it & snapping one of those perpetual strings of beads around her neck.
Political theater you could love.
Even if the Republicans win control of Congress in this year’s elections, they won’t be able to reverse much if any of the legislation so long as Obama is president. He’ll simply veto the reversal legislation. It’s highly unlikely the Republicans would be able to overturn those vetos.
The Daily Kos kids might be enraged at Rassmussen’s polling results, but the adult insiders are worried sick. They know that the poll numbers are truly awful. Barack Obama is proving to be a disaster. If they had to do over again—Hillary Clinton would have been the Democratic Party champion in 2008.
Obama is going to try and get revenge on the American people. We have betrayed him and deserve to be punished. This is most troubling.
Actually, this all makes sense, in a macabre, bizarro world sort of way.
When you live in a Protest Culture world, and maintain a Protest Culture worldview…then all things filter through your unique protest culture prism.
Add to this rather noxious blend of national self-loathing… (or more precisely, the loathing of having to live with the great unwashed, un-nuanced, “little people”…you know, the “bitter clingers”)…the permanent status of “rigged fact recipient” from the entrenched media in your pocket…and you will begin to see the witch, the broom and the flying monkeys for what they are.
Pelosi (and to a lesser extent, albeit no less noxious…Reid)live in a cocoon of self-aggrandizement, self-glorification, self-dealing, and self-promotion.
They are so insulated from any meaningful consequence to their actions, that it inspires narcissism, groupthink, hedonism and radical excess.
Given absolute power, it corrupts in a manner which spins in its own orbit. Legislation by ambush…at night, creeping in the shadows, attempting to stick in poisonous pieces behind our backs…is actually quite predictable.
Pelosi lives in a district that wouldn’t punish her for any offense, as long as she toed the line on their groupthink extremist views.
The President failed “her”…and the groupthink radical extremism she represents by the mere lip service paid to the rest of us, by the failure to follow the playbook of radical leftism to the tee.
She is merely vocalizing what the extremists are thinking. He’s off the reservation in an attempt to slow cook the legislation by ambush. She, and the other radical extremists are microwave revolutionaries.
“We have seized the power, now let’s finish the job!” That’s what she is saying. Carpe diem, damn the consequences!
Pelosi is a bellwether for the hard left tug on this administration. Ambush legislation is merely the tip of the iceberg for her. C-Span doesn’t have a chance. Neither do we, really.
The legacy media are the flying monkeys. And she’s going to get you…Roger, me…and our little dog Toto, too. There just isn’t time to stop her.
2 Points:
Actually, up to now it has been a very transparent bill. But this is despite much of the efforts of Democrats who have tried to dissuade us from examining it or the process of passing it. Now they are making an end run for the goal.
And Once enacted no bill is easy to remove. Even with a fully Republican congress (which will take many years) that train wreck will be the law of the land. Is there even a count of government programs that were completely shut down?
“We have seized the power, now let’s finish the job!” That’s what she is saying. Carpe diem, damn the consequences!”
They really didn’t mean it when previously declaring, “damn the consequences.” The poll numbers were never supposed to be this bad. Americans were going to be dancing in the streets—instead of readying for a sort of revolution. Nancy Pelosi never thought she would lose her leadership role. Losing a handful of congress critters was fine and dandy. She was not willing to lose the whole shebang.
David, she is not intending on losing the whole enchilada, she is intent on swallowing it before it is finished being served.
The problem with misunderestemating hard leftists, is the use of reason, rationale, calm, logical, common sensical notions and ideas.
Think like a media maven, bleeding red ink, losing patrons as if someone yelled “fire!”…they are not walking away…they are racing for the exits.
And still, you adhere to the hard left message playbook. Damn the consequences.
This war isn’t over…not by a long shot. The witch, the broom and the flying monkeys will be back. With a vengeance.
“David, she is not intending on losing the whole enchilada, she is intent on swallowing it before it is finished being served.”
Nancy Pelosi worries about herself, first, last, and foremost. The ideology of the Democratic Party rates a distant second in her scheme of things. Pelosi had no problem in losing 15-20 seats on Election Day. That would still leave her with a working majority—and her role as leader of the pack. The Obama disaster, however, is threatening the Democratic Party with the possibility of losing over 55-60 seats! This is simply not acceptable. The health care bill will now die a slow death.
Brilliant line linked via instapundit:
MICKEY KAUS: Now Angelo Mozilo can safely title his autobiography “Dodd is My Co-Pirate.”
One can only hope that this legislation will be contetsted in court and even if it takes years foe the litigation to be settled following appeals, we might eventually be saved from it.
In the meantime, an organization (think “tea parties”) must be formed and funded to push as hard as heck for term limits for representatives and senators elected to Congress.
The health care bill will now die a slow death.
David, the health care bill will not be sacrificed, what you see today are Blanched Davidians lighting themselves on fire, rather than surrendering.
It won’t be on C-span and it won’t be investigated by Obama’s BJ squad (Andrew Breitbart has a new site up called Big Journalism, a gift to this nation that may well surpass anything we get from the government for years to come)
This bill will be hijacked by Pelosi and Reid and we will get yet another piece of ambush legislation forced down our throats.
They are already messing with withholding on paychecks.
When hard leftists say “by any means necessary”, they mean by ANY means necessary. Pelosi would eat your esophagus on the floor of the House if she thought it would advance the hard left “cause”.
She is truly bi-partisan, she would just as easily rip the lungs out of a blue Dog democrat as a republican or independent.
This bill has been bought and paid for by bribes, threats, side deals and every other dirty trick. Sacrificing a seat in the House or Senate for a lifetime of multi-million dollar lobbying deals is no sacrifice.
The duck and cover technique…democrats ambush the people and get cover from the media…is well honed.
They have the White House for several more years, will not lose the Senate and will still have plenty of firepower in the House. And before those elections take place…she will have slipped in every piece of hidden, ambush legislation she can think of. Book it.
“That would be wrong.” [Where have we heard that before?-ed. Oh, you know.]
That sounds like Richard Nixon to me…
Blatant lies with the contorted version of the proverbial straight face. Senora La Pelosita, I would not launch so may torpedoes, because with this kind of rapid fire, one of them with a defective guidance system will sooner or later make a U-turn.
Anyway, I we want to say something nice about her, we’ve got to recognize that she is trying hard to create the impression that Obamacare is inevitable, and therefore resistance is futile. But why is she trying so hard?
“When hard leftists say “by any means necessary”, they mean by ANY means necessary.”
The majority of Democratic Party legislators are not hard leftists. They are mostly economically illiterate champions of big government policies. The price these individuals are willing to pay on behalf of radical leftwing doctrines is severely limited. These Democrats are not willing to throw themselves on their swords to please their party leaders. Self preservation remains the first law of the jungle. In one way or another, the red and purple state Democrat elected officials will find a way to please their voters. Barack Obama will have to worry about himself. Neither the health care nor cap and tax bills will be signed into law. A monkey wrench, however discretely, will somehow be thrown into the works.
I think Nanhilda figures she’ll lose a lot of members, but they’ll all be Blue Dogs (and crazies like Grayson–however did he get elected in the first place?) and she’ll return next year with a smaller majority, but a majority still, and this time they’ll all be reliable votes. We need to have some of those “safe” seats flip. We need a bloodbath. In the Senate, for now, we need to hold all and flip three in order to take the girls from Maine out of the picture (and I’d love to be able to neutralize McCain and Graham as well when immigration comes up again, but, alas, I’m afraid that’s a pipe dream).
Roger, don’t dismiss Dodd like that. He will be our next Secretary of the Treasury. Who better as he knows where the money is ?
Does everyone understand (and I’m sure you do) just how much in this legislation is left to the discretion of the HHS secretary? This monstrosity of a bill is but a broad outline and the actual decisions will be made, the rules promulgated by HHS bureaucrats and newly established commissions and boards. NONE of these people will be accountable to the public, the citizens and voters. None. I believe when your lives are taken over by people against whom you have no recourse, you no longer can be said to live in a state of liberty. Dare I call it tyranny?
The train-wreck that is the Democrats-in-power is full steam ahead. Heads will roll. Bus wheels will thump. Duels will be held at high noon behind the green curtain.
FYI: Grossi Pelosi upgraded from the broom to the swiffer.
Sukie Tawdry: “Dare I call it tyranny?”
Oh, but I insist. Far more apt than ‘social justice’.
Mike K: “Who better as he knows where the money is ?”
Yarghhh! Might it be buried in Dodd-man’s chest? A salty dog with many PIN numbers is he, most certainly. {apologies to Mickey Kaus and all the pirates of the blogosophere}
What’s the difference between the Pelosi-Reid-Obama $787 billion “stimulus” and Madoff’s $65 billion fraud? Easy: $722 billion. The similarity is, naturally, they were both Ponzi schemes.
The healthcare bill will pass–in some form or another–within a few weeks. The Dems simply have nothing more to lose. In poker terms, they are “all in”–all of their political capital chips are on the table. If they fold now, they lose everything and gain nothing. the Dems who have already voted for a healthcare bill in either body have already burned bridges with their electorate. Not voting for the conference bill will not gain back any of the support that they’ve lost by voting for one earlier, but they would lose whatever bribes have been offered by Pelosi and/or Reid. Ben Nelson and Landrieu can never now be re-elected in their states, no matter what they do going forward–they are whores for the Democrats and everyone knows it.
The Dems will take their chances on healthcare and place their re-election hopes on the economy. If the economy looks better in November, they will probably get re-elected despite anything they’ve done. If the economy is no better, they will lose, regardless of anything they have done. I doubt that any of them have the economic sense to grasp the negative effect on the economy that their bills would have.
Obamacare is going to happen.
P.S. Here’s another cheery thought: if the Dems get wiped out in November, what’s to stop them from passing any number of atrocities during the lame duck session between early November and early January. A new Republican majority would not be able to reverse any of it unless they had a veto-proof majority.
The political class in this country now regards itself beyond accountability. In those rare instances when an incumbent loses, he steps into the much greater of lobbying as Tom Daschle did. There is no downside ever, therefore no incentive to change.
Mr Simon of course neglects to mention that Speaker Pelosi polls well ahead of the top two Republicans in the Senate and House.
And as for Obama being disdained, Mr Simon should look at the numbers for anything associated with the GOP. Talk about poor performers.
But facts are tough to digest for the clowns at Pajamas “media”
This thread: combination acid trip and circle jerk. Pelosi is both an effective politician and a strong leader for the caucus. She’s a liberal, so conservatives hate her…what else is new? Liberals hated Jesse Helms, but nobody imagined that he was going to disappear in a puff of smoke or be disqualified from running somehow or have his work negated by the appearance of an army of mummies. If NC likes Helms, and most of the US does too, then he gets to decide things. Right now, and for the foreseeable future, Pelosi has a legislative and electoral mandate. Because that makes you want to shoot her isn’t reason enough for anyone to listen to you–do you get that?
So unless the dems lose the house, or Pelosi loses her seat (both highly unlikely), she’s going to continue. Her polling is strongest among the four key legislators; she’s here to stay. You folks aren’t going to get healthcare reform overturned in a court; you aren’t going to get Pelosi dumped as speaker; you’re not going to get Obama disqualified by a court through birtherist screeching. Grow up and get an electoral majority.
Will you be able to do that? Let’s consider. Ideas: none, plus an arrogant, almost cavalier position that you don’t even need them. The GOP does not even admit that there are problems. Apparently, all you need is hate. Entirely focused on damaging, scalp-taking, obstructing, preventing, impeaching, destroying. This is occasionally productive in the short term, but the political strategy appears to be to declare victory based on any brief spike in positive-negative polling from the most favorable possible figure considered in the most favorable possible light. There is no rational or pragmatic consideration involved.
All GOP campaigning is relentlessly negative. You run against things, not for things. Sure there are exceptions, and democrats do it too, but how long do you think that tactic will work? Apparently you think it will work forever. I’ll admit that it may–I certainly hope not, because that’s a recipe for dumping ones own country in the crapper; make your bets. There’s a long list of democrats who bet on clarity, honesty, and ideas and lost, to be sure. You all seem to be capable of pride in the likes of Rove and DeMint and Addington and Harriet Freaking Miers, so who knows the depth of self destruction that may develop here.
It makes me sad. I’ve voted Republican; I certainly don’t favor democrats all the time. A sane blend is our best hope and the current drift denies our children the hope of a balanced and thoughtful approach to the future. No joy here. Your party are evidently going to provide a test case for the worst case scenario. I wish you the worst of luck on that–every month that goes by with your pestilent conspiracy theories and utterly bankrupt candidates and theories damages our nation.
ice9
Hey, ’27. ice9′!
What ‘party’ do you belong to?
Yes, our country is going down the sh*tter. What are your brilliant plans? DO TELL.
I can’t decide if Pelosi is just stupid and has no understanding of basic civics or she is incredibly cynical and just assumes the American people are stupid and have no understanding of basic civics.
What Pelosi is experiencing is not a failure of Obama — indeed he has done everything in the power of the presidency to garner support for this bill. But his real power only comes after Pelosi, Reid and the Democrats give him a bill to sign. At this stage of the bill process Obama is nothing more than a deified cheerleader.
Behold the god that bleeds!
re: 20 Sukie and 27 idiot9
The old saying is that there are 3 political stages:
1) soap box
2) ballot box
3) cartridge box
I never thought to live to see the third stage here as I am into my “senior” years, but, it’s looking more and more possible as these petty tyrants try and take control over all of our lives right down to the aspirin we take.
Liberty through superior fire-power.
I recall from reading “Roots” way back when that “jumping the broom” was one of the admittedly very minor ceremonies involved in one slave marrying another.
While the witch/broom part is apt, and jumping the shark is apt, mixing them together makes a mess of the whole thing.
Which, in a way, works quite well, as that is exactly what Madame Speaker Pelosi is doing.
