After lengthy post-production fussing, the third and last (probably) of my “Burning Down the New York Times in Three Acts” videos is up. In this one I put the NYT in full on psychoanalysis as it free associates a number of figures, including Barbra Streisand. The Times actually has a breakdown. But in the end the “talking cure” does not work. The Times is still the Times. A cigar is just a cigar.
See the new one (part three) here. See parts one and two here and here.

There is a very good chance that the New York Times will shut down its operations within the next year. It seems to be still losing large amounts of money. The struggle may be getting too expensive— and not worth the self-sacrifice if Barack Obama is now rapidly becoming a marginalized political figure. Why bother?
Come on Mr. Simon, you released parts 1 & 2 free on your blog? How am I supposed to decide if I want to subscribe when I can’t see the last part?
EdSki??? Look above. The link is free. (First one of three in last line).
Some weeks ago when the NY Times (or at least their on-line edition)ran that truly egregious piece by putative conservative op-ed columnist David Brooks on “dignity”, and how –as evidenced by her resignation speech from the Alaskan governorship– Palin was a bathetic sleazo up there in the league with Jacko and with Mark Sanford; and how deeply grateful we should all be be, irrespective of ideological leanings, for President Obama’s vast reserves of dignity and gravitas, I happened to be up at 0300 hrs or so when it was first posted.
I wrote a very polite, but obviously –as I would have certainly thought– sardonic note of appreciation to Mr. Brooks thanking him for revealing the heretofore-hidden symmetry between the feckless adulterer; the trans-racial, transgender, transgressive, trans-everything (and notably antisemitic) pop-star; and Governor Plain, and how it really was an eye-opener for me. Thank you thank you thank you.
It made it through the Times’s blog moderator and was the listed #1 response at about 0830 EDT the following morning. At 0900 hrs, I called up the article again and found that my post had evidently just been flushed down the memory hole. The new #1 posting was the first of about 400 such, sincerely and non-sardonically thanking Brooks for opening their eyes also.
Jeeesh! The Slimes is much further gone down the path to soft-Stalinism than I would have imagined prior to that first-hand shot of soft Stalinsim.
Well done, Roger. The NYT really, as you say, can’t now help themselves. They need a 12 stepper thingee, not an analyst talker, and definitly no more drugs. Sadly, their audience wants to be affirmed, not informed, so they are stuck in a downward spiral of abusing themselves with worse and worse bs propaganda; tragic, really. On the other hand, the vet in me says may they rot in hell with worst/dumbest McNamarra and Uncle Walter the Cronk crank.
Apologies Mr. Simon, I clicked on it yesterday and got the commercial in the front, guess I didn’t wait long enough for it actually start!
To be brutally honest, I thought the analysts couch was a bit kitschy. The connections between Castro and the times was new and quite interesting information. I liked part 2 the best.
