Happy Hanukkah!

December 21, 2008 - 5:35 pm - by Roger L Simon

Some of you are undoubtedly ahead of us, but we’re getting ready to celebrate here at Casa Simon-Longin – or should I say Beth Simon-Longin?  Anyway… the house smells of brisket.  Traditions go on.  Enjoy yourselves in this not too optimistic time.  It’s rarely as it bad as it seems.  (Of course, the converse unfortunately is also true.)

Thanks for continuing to come by.  More to come.  Happy Holidays!  To brighten things up – here’s a Dreidel Song.

(video link below)At his grandparent’s house in Israel, two year old Moishe Holtzberg lights the first Chanuka candle on his parent’s Menorah(candelabra) salvaged from the Chabad Mumbai house destroyed by Islamic terrorists. Yes, Roger, traditions bring hope, comfort & purpose in a sometimes very unfathomable, fragile world. happy chanukah.

    Happy Hanukkah to you Roger.

    I’ve de-composed a Christmas prayer
and it goes something like this.

    Lord, this is my prayer
    Not only on Christmas Day
But until I see Palin in
    the White House
Or the Red Sox win again
    (whichever comes last)
May I live my life this way:

Just like the city of Boston
I ever hope in the playoffs to be,
    Gives us Teixeira bat
Trusting in Henry and Theo almightily.

And like the growing Celtics child
    To the playoffs daily driving,
May I ever seek tickets to complement
My ESPN and MLB EXTRA watching.

    Like the FANS so faithful
Let me follow in their light, paintface and bold
    In your face and strong
Not afraid to face the Yanks.

Nor cowardly to suffer the loss
And stand for pointing blame alone,
    Knowing next season Your kingdom
    Awaits my Fenway home.

Not afraid to bunt and sacrifice
Though great may be the cost,
Mindful how Big Papi rescued us
    From broken-hearted loss.

    Like our defeated curse
The babe, the Sox, twice won,
    May my life forever speak
Of who the Sox beat and all they’ve done.

So while the Phils may have won rejoice
    And celebrate a new birth,
We treasure the Red Soxs, the greatest gift
    Unequaled in their worth.

I long to hear opening day songs
Sweet Caroline – HO, HO, HO
Good times never seemed so good
SO GOOD, SO GOOD, SO GOOD.
I’ve been inclined – HO, HO, HO
    To believe they never would
    Oh, No, No

And may the Red Sox welcome others
Who will join with me in praise
Because I lived for the Red Sox
Not only during the winning Days

Happy holidays to you and your family!

  4. Happy Monkey to all, for celebrating life is always a good thing.

And if you disagree, may you be adopted by adolescent geladas.

Happy channukah to you and your family!
