One of the major features of the McCain campaign is that it has made quick and effective counter-punching into an art form. Its ad on the lipstick comment is spot on and devastating. Obama comes off as a whiner and crybaby. More importantly, this hits home with women which is shifting to McPalin.

  2. 2. Godzilla

Meanwhile, Sarah Palin continues to pummel Obama by ridiculing him with the truth. She continued it today, bringing up his nearly 1 billion dollars worth of earmarks. Seriously, she has unballed him. Don’t expect her to respond to the pig remark. She will continue to kick him with the truth…she brought up again today that only McCain has ever really fought for us. Has Obama been talking much about “victory” lately? Or has that word been taken away from him? Yes, for him to use the word “victory” in any context other than victory in Iraq is tantamount to his pointing at his groin region and calling attention to the lack of testicles there (figuratively). And he had to go on national television and say that “he considered” joining the military once. Palin is tearing Obama a new asshole, and when she’s done with him you’ll be able use him for a basketball hoop. And meanwhile, his big message today was to defend his pig remark.

  3. 3. Godzilla

Speaking of Obama’s hope message. That’s sort of derailed now also, isn’t it?

  4. 4. Minerva

I expect this will be in tomorrow’s McCain political advert:

“Spare me all the phony talk about change.”

…Brother, can you spare some ‘change’?

  5. 5. Crusader

Godzilla – isn’t Palin the Queen of Pork? She has a lot of balls going after Obama on that issue.

  6. 6. Godzilla

Crusader, why? Palin has cut government spending in Alaska, broke the oil monopoly, and institued ethics reform. If Palin is the Queen of Pork, then Obama is the Darth Vadar of Pork.

  7. 7. Godzilla

Crusader, you must have meant that Palin is the Queen of Eliminating Pork.

  8. 8. Mareyel

Obama wants to debate? In the same old, tired, boring format? Yes. He’s afraid to leave his teleprompter and go head to head with McCain in a town hall type of setting. Remember Bill Clinton mopping up George HW Bush in that format?

Bring it on, baby. John can laugh at himself, Barack cannot due to incredibly thin skin.

  9. 9. Lem

“Hold on one second there, sweetie,” ;)

I red a very good analysis of this elsewere that I want to share with you.

Master-Slave is a common expression in the computer world to describe for example which disk drive is main and which is secondary. Do you think there would have the same reaction if McCain described the Biden-Obama as “master-slave” in the context of Biden really being in control.

I don’t think so. The comment would be nasty even if the intention had nothing to do with race or history.

This is why the NYT “just a very old aphorism” analysis is plain wrong. The Obama comment isn’t okay because it is a common expression, it is “okay” because Obama wasn’t intending to call Palin a pig. Obama wasn’t making a personal attack, he just made a political mistake [emphasis mine] by making a comment that a lot of people could and would take the wrong way.

It’s the political mistake, which is evidence of Obama’s temperament[emphasis mine], that is the issue, not whether the comment was a personal insult.

Like by the crowd, who started chanting “No more pit bulls.”

Hey, this is pretty cool. I actually feel a little sorry for Hillary by the time it ends.

    It’s too late

  12. 12. Jay

It’s pretty clear to me, Roger, that you have no interest in policy proposals, or at least those advanced by Democrats. Whether or not Obama’s policy proposals are “conventional” left-of-center stuff (many are, but I believed in them to begin with; his pledge to up charter school funding was refreshing, however) they’ve been out there. Just like Hillary’s were. Just like McCain’s are. You either took a long snooze through the primaries, don’t read anything except internet innuendo, or can’t stop resenting the fact that some people actually think this year’s Dem candidate isn’t completely boring.

You loathe Obama’s speeches. We get it. But it’s one thing to hate the speeches, and another to miss that they are actually laced with policy proposals. To miss that, though, you either need to deliberately lie, or not listen to a full speech at all.

  13. 13. Godzilla

Well, go ahead, Jay, discuss the pig issue that Obama raised today.

  14. 14. Godzilla

Jay, I think the pig comment by Obama was pretty stupid. What do you think?

  15. 15. Godzilla

Jay, why don’t you think Obama has said the surge has been a sucess yet? How come he doesn’t talk about victory in Iraq. What happened to his hope message?

  16. 16. Andy Rigrod

The poster Jay is evidently unaware that Roger Simon directs all editorial content at Pajamas Media – at least I think he does – which is filled with discussion of policy. Is he one of those bots we hear about?

  17. 17. Dee

Andy, Jay is a bot who has way too much time on his hands and little in his brain.

  18. 18. Sandy P

Barry’s been on the campaign trail for 19 months – we should know his policy issues by now.

I want to know why kindergarteners need to know about STDs.

  19. 19. Sandy P

And ITA – let’s spare Barry the talk about phony change – cos Maverick “changed” the election – big time.

  20. 20. gina Mallet

pigobama knew exactly what he was saying and he knew his audience would lap it up and that it would make a gt soundbite

this is new politics, remember, slash and burn. say haven’t we been there before?

  21. 21. Lem

What happened to his hope message?

Sarah Palin mistook for moose ;)

BTW, where is PETA vis-à-vis Palin and her moose hunting?

  22. 22. Sandy P

And explain why he denigrates those who revere the Constitution.

Your guns are safe because I don’t have the votes…….

That is 1 single-issue voter right there.

  23. 23. Godzilla

And Jay, ‘splain again how raising taxes is good for the economy?

  24. 24. Godzilla

I think Bidinotto has nailed it.

  25. 25. Lightnin' Hopkins

“You loathe Obama’s speeches. We get it. But it’s one thing to hate the speeches, and another to admit that they are actually laced with policy proposals. To miss that, though, you either need to deliberately lie, or not listen to a full speech at all.”

Sen. Obama’s long-winded speeches are indeed filled with policy proposals, Jay, and each one of them will hoover more money out of my pocket to pay for them. My question for you is what is the Kool-Aid you’re drinking laced with?

Jokes aside, since spending never seems to go down and the annual budget is up to the size of several large phonebooks as it is already, why should I vote for a progressive utopian (read: thinly-veiled Marxist, a la Saul Alinsky) who’s going to spend even more *and* raise my taxes? Even if you could assuage that concern to my satisfaction – which you cannot, no matter how you finesse the numbers – we’re in the middle of a global war with psychotic zealots who want to bring down all of Western Civilization and can’t afford to hand power over to a complete lightweight. He makes Dukakis look presidential! No dice. No how. You’re going to find out that middle America agrees with me to the tune of a 10-15 point win in November.

I will enjoy Barry’s concession speech Jay, I might even listen to the entire thing. :)

  26. 26. Godzilla

Here’s a scary thought: can you imagine the sort of dirt that the Chicago Polical Machine has on Obama? They could probably destroy his career in a heartbeat if they let some of the things slip out. Obama may just be the apotheosis of a candidate that will be controlled through the threat of blackmail.

  27. 27. Lem

If the swine were in the other foot, here is how the NYT would handle it.

It’s pretty clear to me, Roger, that you have no interest in policy proposals, or at least those advanced by Democrats.

So what if he doesn’t – this is his blog. If you don’t like it, you’re free to go elsewhere.

Second, if Obama wasn’t insulting Palin then he made a stupid comment that millions of people would see as an insult. The perception will likely linger far longer than his explanation of what he really meant.

As a final point, Obama’s policies that you’re so eager to talk about are a seemingly endless litany of expansions to government programs. In the military, there’s an old saying that “no plan survives contact with the enemy.” There’s also an old saying that “Man plans. God laughs.” Obama has a lot of plans and policies but in the end, he would have to respond to world events just like any other president. That’s when a president’s character comes into play. Personally, I care more about the candidates’ character and accomplishments. Unfortunately, Obama has little of either.

McCain has spent the last couple months stripping from “The One” his sense of humor, his likability, his bubba quotient. All that is left is “the issues”. He’s on his way to becoming the next Al Gore or John Kerry and look how well that worked for them. Instead, the guy who he should be, Bill Clinton, he can’t even talk too because he disrespected Hillary and won’t pay her debts. Not that Bill respected her or would pay her debts either.

KArauthammer predicted last March, I think, that Obama had peaked. The reason was that the public had learned all there was to learn about Obama by then, but virtually nothing about McCain. They had learned all they would about Obama, because there is so little TO learn. This is not exactly true, because his Alinsky/Ayers/Wright-affiliated radicalism will remain a secret the media will hide. But it is nevertheless true that the public had, and still has, a lot to learn about McCain, and perhaps Palin.

For example, that their kids are serving in Iraq, what McCain’s extensive experience in bipartisan compromise has been, that McCain has never taken a single earmark, while Obama has over a billion bucks of them in his short tenure (guess he time for SOME Senate activity after all) and even, as we see this week, that he talks and acts like an adult, not a sneering, sniveling, condescending faculty lounge lightweight.

Wow… If you go to RCP and check in the Intrade futures market odds, the betting line in favor of Obama has dipped below 50%. Just a couple of months ago, it was at 70%, maybe even higher before then.

It will be interesting to see the state polls roll in and how they will affect RCP’s Electoral College map. It looks like 3 big Rust Belt states are still up for grabs, with McCain holding steady at about 1-2% in Ohio and Obama’s edge in Pennsylvania and Ohio shrinking just a bit. Disaffected Hillary supporters could make a difference in those places.

In RCP’s generic Congressional poll measure, the Dems’ advantage has slipped to about 5% from well into double-digits a few months ago. This is astounding, given the baked-in advantages the Dems supposedly have this year.

We pigs are really upset about Sen. Obama’s comment. We are quite nice just the way we are, and only a very vain pig (there are a few) would even consider wearing lipstick to try to hide his or her identity. From The Three Little Pigs Went to Market story to the Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf story, we have been adored and respected by you Humans around the world. Now, in one stupid comment, all of us, members of the suidae family, have been insulted. Homo sapiens, are we not all, fellow mammals.
Remember, a human with a very expensive face lift is still the same old human underneath.
    Oink, Oink!

South Carolina Democratic chairwoman Carol Fowler sharply attacked Sarah Palin today, saying John McCain had chosen a running mate ” whose primary qualification seems to be that she hasn’t had an abortion.”

  34. 34. Lem

Carol Fowler sharply attacked Sarah Palin today, … [Sarah's] primary qualification seems to be that she hasn’t had an abortion.

While trying to use the example above to show how Obama’s poor judgement only serves to further denigrate political discourse. A popular saying popped into my mind. But almost instantaniously, I thought this ‘saying’, while perfectly illustrative of the forces Obama’s schoolyard comment has unleashed, I also have to consider how my words can and may be construed.

That said, what Carol Fowler did was ….

I have hope. My hope is that Obama will go away real soon.

Jay, if Obama wants to talk policy, let him. Here lately he has been too busy attacking McCain’s VP to talk policy. Or if he does he makes some lame comment about earmarks, when he and Biden have asked for millions of dollars in earmarks, just in the last couple of years and McCain has never asked for one. Not ever. Obama is a hypocrite. And not a very good one either.

Sarah is jabbing back at The One saying, “My Opponent?”

I’d better go work out really really hard, I’m gonna gain weight from all this popcorn.

Pigs today, wolves tomorrow. And Obama retreats to Letterman for a little R&R.

“These are serious times and they call for a serious debate…spare me all the phony outrage. Spare me all the phony talk about change.”

OK, you first, BO. When does the real debate start? Your “policies” are mostly baloney. Your energy policy is a tailpipe dream. Your national security stance is a weathervane (FISA reform, no, I mean maybe, OK, yes). Remind me, where did you end up on the Georgia question? Your tax policy seems to be in a state of flux over the weekend and you STILL HAVE NOT ANSWERED CHARLIE GIBSON’S QUESTION FROM PHILADELPHIA so no wonder you are backpedaling on it. Do you understand the benefits of free trade? Do you think unions should have confidential union elections? What was the thinking behind putting your kids in private school? Is that leadership on public edukation? How about naming 3 judges you think would make good Supreme Court nominees so we can look at their records?–and don’t go to the ACLU membership page to do it.

If you could answer half of these questions by Election Day you might have a chance, but you can’t because you are an empty suit. Harvard trained you to talk but not think. Just because you happened to follow your mother around to other countries as a child does not make you a worldly citizen.

So my last question for you is: What excuse will you use to replace Biden with HRC without calling your judgement into question too much?

  40. 40. California Dreamer

BO’s appearance on Letterman tonight is a perfect case in point. Letterman gave him a 2 minute warning that he would be asking him what he would have done right after 9/11 if he were president (nice telegraph, Dave). BO’s response is that he would have:

+stayed the course in Afghanistan (like George Bush has done)
    +not gone to Iraq
    +pursued energy independance
+hardened our chemical plants and ports

That is why he cannot be trusted on national security. Not a word about how better to take the battle to Al Qaeda than Bush has done. No increase in surveillance, no increase in the use of drones, no discussion of how to make better use of Israel’s expertise, no discussion of the rest of the world (e.g. Indonesia which he is supposed to know something about, Syria, Iran), no domestic intelligence gathering, no comment on reorganizing agencies, no assessment of the 9/11 report—nothing. He’s a lightweight.
