Rick Moran has an interesting piece on Pajamas this morning about Hillary Clinton battling on in her campaign because it is historic for women. Whatever one thinks about Hillary, indeed it is.
But it is also ironic. At this moment, there are more women in law school (and medical school) than there are men. Times have clearly changed. In the not too distant future women in the White House and Congress should be pro forma.
So I have an idea for sci fi writers. It’s 2212 and for the first time in a hundred years a MAN is running for the White House, battling all those stereotypes about men (bellicosity, lack of education, etc.).
Hey, maybe I should write it… or Dr. Helen!

Joe Haldeman’s The Forever War has a great look at societal reversals as a soldier in an interstellar war experiences different moments in Earth’s future, thanks to the effects of time dilation. It’s one of my favorite science-fiction books.

When I was in seventh grade, my biology teacher (a hard-core, radical feminist) taught us that biotechnology would someday allow women to have children without men at all, and the dream of a man-less society could be realized. She was actually a great teacher and a sweet woman, but totally off her rocker.
Inversions are common in science fiction. Your story sounds a bit like Eastward Ho!, a story from the 60′s (or maybe 50′s?) where in a post-nuclear world, most of the industry has been destroyed, central government is gone, and the decentralized structure of the American Indians have enabled them to make a comeback, to the point that the remnants of the US Army, ill-equipped, suffering from disease, struggling to hold onto their traditions and hit by betrayals within and without, is slowly but surely having its territory whittled down to nothing. Finally, with the Iroquois bearing down on them, they decided to load up some old, battered cargo ships and head to the one place where, legend has it, they have a chance to be treated fairly and humanely: east, to Europe!
Actually, if you get on a science fiction kick and want a libertarian allegory, grab the classic “With Folded Hands”. I didn’t realize how much that 20 or 30 page story influenced me until many years later.
I would only be in favor of this if it included some Heinleinian hot girl on girl action.

The MSM wnats her to get out of the race. But the reality is that Clinton still has a chance. Obama is still 200 or so votes short of a first ballot win. I believe the rules allow that, if the fight goes to the second round, delegates pledged to him can change their votes. The Clinton machine must keep enough Superdelegates from declaring and hope they can force more than one vote. Clinton wants badly to be president and this is probably her one and only shot. She would be stupid to give up before she has exhausted every opportunity. There is on 2012 for her.
