.. and blogs?

[Why don't you get him for PJM?-ed. Yes, especially since the LAT's firing people right and left.]

Does Kareem Abdul-Jabbar ever write on anything other than sports? I would most assuredly like to know what he thinks of Islam and the modern world. After all, the former Lew Alcindor is a Muslim convert. What does he think of female circumcision and murdering “infidels” on behalf of Allah?

    @ David Thompson:
His blog says he has authored 4 books on history about Afro-Americans. Offhand, I wouldn’t know the answer to your question, but my guess is that he would have a reasonable answer, even by my Islamofascistphobic sentiments. He has impressed me as being a thoughtful person, over the years, even if he did play for the Lakers.

GringoTex, as you should know, anti-Laker cracks are one of the few inviolate causes for banning from this blog. Henceforth, please refrain. (I hope you’re not a plant for Mark Cuban.)

I bought an autographed copy of this book for my son at a charity auction. Kareem donated his book: Brothers in Arms: The Epic Story of the 761st Tank Battalion, WWII’s Forgotten Heroes.

I haven’t read it, but it looks very good. Kareem’s son went to junior high with my son, and he’s a real nice kid.

None of this changes the fact that the only team worth following is the Spurs.

Stace, you are so right….oh, wait….

Well, I suppose Kobe is pretty good–ok, extremely amazing. But he doesn’t have as many championship rings as Tim Duncan has.

“(I hope you’re not a plant for Mark Cuban.)”

He’s definitely not a Mark Cuban sock; there’s no boundless enthusiasm for whatever idea strikes his fancy in that post. Ever read Cuban’s blog? Whew! Love the guy, but can only take so many doses of him…

Now, could GringoTex be a shill?… heck if I know. Can’t quite get a read on the average Mark Cuban fan; comments on his blog range from “You’re absolutely correct, Mr. Cuban” to “Effing m0r0n, you d0n’t kn0w cr4p u pwnzored 1d10t!“, and everything in between. So it’s hard to characterize how a Cuban shill would act. I’d be willing to say GT here’s just makin’ fun and no more.

And I feel like an old coot for saying this, but nothing in my mind touches the Showtime Lakers as far as NBA greatness. I miss that team. The problem stemming from that is that it’s hard to feel any passion for the current incarnation. “Kobe shoots and scores!” just doesn’t have the same level of excitement that “Magic to Worthy! Magic to Kareem! Magic to (fill-in-the-blank)!” had. It’s just never been the same since.

Roger Clemens’s under oath denials where so emphatic, leaving no “its depends on the definition” wiggle-room that an expedited perjury referral to justice cries out like a wailing mother after the death of her only child. It will definitely make the top 10 lying lowlights lowlife news reels of all time.

Clemens lies not only piled on defiling the game, it’s now stepping over the lines of justice.

I commend Kareem for having the courage to comment.

Actually Roger, while I have lived in Texas for many years, I spent the first half of my life in New England. I have no more liking for Mark Cuban than you have. Given my place of origin, I am an inveterate Celtics fan. Even last year ( 24-58) I requested that my sister send me tapes of Celtics games! (One irony of being a Red Sox fan and a Yankees hater is that the only contact I have had with a big league player was with a student teacher in my high school gym class, who had pitched for the Yankees.)

I will try to cut down on any further references to the Lakers, and simply leave my opinion of them implicit.
